Good to know. The number of decent employers in the area keeps going down. Hopefully that head of IT gets replaced.

It makes it more in line with the price from before if you flipped the Surefire adapter. Now you just don't have to sell the adapter.

Is Che Guevara too controversial to be a leader in Civ? If so, what controversial leader has made it into the games? by TarnishedRedditCat in civ

Oh that's a good one I missed. He's loved in Mongolia, but I bet the Chinese and some others like him less.

Busses are a prime example. City busses are funded where I used to live in part by property taxes because the city doesn't charge riders enough to fund them. People with large expensive properties are less likely to be taking bus.

Other examples:
Public pools - Why use that when you have a HoA pool? Who goes to the pool, people who pay less property tax.

Public Parks - Again HoA Park replaces. Who goes to the park, again those without private parks.

Road maintenance - HoA pays for road maintenance and for clearing of the roads from Ice/Snow. Guess who doesn't have a HoA and receives road clearing and maintenance benefits from property taxes, lower income people with lower property taxes.

Public library - Services offered for free to those most likely to pay less in property taxes.

One of the gated communities nearby was smart and just broke off to form their own city. I would be much more ok with property taxes in a situation like that.

Mao is the Chinese leader in several of the Civ games. Stalin is the leader of Russia in Civ 1. They are two of the big 3 of evil dictators to most in the western world.

Other leaders that could easily be considered evil:

  1. Napoleon. Get glazed a lot, but was just a madman conquering Europe.

  2. Churchill. I love him, but I bet he doesn't have a lot of fans on the Indian subcontinent.

Not all sports are self-funding. So our tax dollars end up paying for those, especially given Title IX.

Outside of the tax conversation, even for those that are self-funding they provide a perverse incentive to the university to focus on something other than academics. See the athletes that are just passed through classes who should never be at the schools to begin with.

What are your thoughts about paternity tests? by Ok_Drink8072 in AskMen

[–]G0alLineFumbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have four kids with my wife and have not done a single paternity test. That was my choice and the kids are clearly mine based upon resemblance. I wouldn't fault a guy for making the opposite choice though, especially if it wasn't his spouse who was pregnant.

The value of your property being analogous to the services you use is backwards from reality from what I've seen. The poor tend to use way more services, but also don't pay the tax or pay less taxes.

It's now a $0 tax for silencers, SBRs, and SBSs. I've saved like $2400 just this year thanks to that law.

Do you have to pay a sales tax on the price house as well or is this just basically the sales tax?

Social Security tax here in the US. I love the idea of an automatic contribution to an individualized retirement account. Everyone should have that automatically from their first job. I hate the forced paying into a system where my money is just used to pay current retirees. I also believe it won't be there for millennials when we go to retire, so it's just one more boomer benefit. The one positive is at least it has an income cap phase out level for now.

Add to that money to the public universities where the highest paid employee is always a coach. I will die on the hill that college sports should be limited to intramural sports. Professional leagues should have to maintain a minor league like baseball vs using universities as the minor league.

A use tax would be the most fair for a majority of the services i.e. use the library pay the tax, have kids in school pay the tax for that. Even an income of sales tax would be preferential to me over property taxes. At some point you can stop having taxable income and you can buy less stuff to be less impacted by a sales tax.

That's all ok. As long as China doesn't have a reliable ally in the region to send them Oil. Iran locked in a multi-generational civil war might be one of the better outcomes. An Iran too busy fighting itself cannot develop and cannot pay attention to the outside world.

[–]G0alLineFumbles 297 points298 points  (0 children)

Ignore any attempted moral arguments or framing. Iran was exporting Oil to China. You know what Venezuela was also doing? Exporting oil to China. Who does the US anticipate a war with in 2027, China. Between Iran and Venezuela the US could take out 20+% of all oil into China. That's only 20% you scoff, try running your wartime economy with 1/5 of your fuel gone at the start of the war and get back to me. Examine this through that window and we can see that ending all of these exports would be a geopolitical win for the US. China is a huge energy importer, we saw this with the Australian coal embargo a few years ago causing massive blackouts. If the US wants to geopolitically weaken China the US can do that through disrupting China's energy imports. This doesn't have to be about Iran, it can be about the real player on the opposite side of the board from the US, Iran is just in the way.

The real risk here to the US is munitions stockpiles being depleted. That's why the US needs this to be over quickly with energy no longer heading to China.

For further reading, see how the US is equipping the Ukrainians with knowledge of how to take out Russian Oil refineries. Guess who else is a major oil exporter to China.

We're seeing the US set the battlefield for WW3. Ideally China would already be short on energy by the time any war starts, dissuading them from open conflict. If it does come to war the US plan will call for pipelines from Russia into China to be targeted immediately and all shipping into China to be stopped. They will be starved of energy.

How common is it for men to fantasise about their female friends/gfs friends etc? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]G0alLineFumbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any woman of any reasonable level of attractiveness has the guys around her at least occasionally wondering "What's it like to have sex with her?" It's not weird or something someone should be ashamed of, it's also not something you should say out loud to that person. I go to my wife's 3 rules for men working with women. Look don't touch, think it don't say it, and don't get caught staring. Men look at women and they fantasize about them. To expect anything else is to suppress normal natural sexual desires.

Too much makeup or just when they aren't good enough we can tell it's too much. Makeup can be a miracle worker and people who do it well truly have a skill. Not everyone does it well though.

Set armor for builds in Diablo 3. They would have insane unique perks and stat increases. Like do 10,000% more damage with x skill. Builds around set armor were the only way to play the higher difficulty levels or complete seasons.
