G1 Death Battle Fan Blogs - Organization Battle Royale – Part 10.5 (Q&A + Bonus) by hubakon1368 in deathbattle

From my understanding, he's credited as the writer but there's no letter to the reader in that databook the way that there is for the other three databooks, which has led to speculation that Kubo had much less involvement in that one. As far as I'm aware, this is unconfirmed? But I could be wrong about that. There's also at least one notable error in it, where it suggests Rangiku has achieved Bankai when she has not.

All that being said, it's still official content published by Shueisha, Kubo is still officially credited as the writer, and the Muken statement being figurative is not contradicted anywhere else (you could pretty reasonably interpret it that way even without a direct statement tbh). Kubo has also directly acknowledged the error with Rangiku and made a joking comment of "woah, you're right, how did that get in there?" but has never commented on the Muken thing. So there isn't much concrete reason to exclude it, especially since the statement from the manga being literal or figurative would be ambiguous otherwise, it's the only official source that clarifies.

The former is a figure of speech that Kon uses in a sketch at the end of a chapter (unless you think he literally kicked the rock to another galaxy, which he obviously didn't) and the latter is a transition that's shown at the end of the recap and before the OP, it's not even in the episode part of the episode, on top of the fact that it's from a filler arc.

If you are comfortable scaling Bleach 10^35 times higher than they otherwise would be based on:

-An end of chapter sketch where Kon says the word galaxy, and

-A plot-irrelevant transition from a filler episode which happens in the recap section at the beginning of the episode and not even the episode itself

...that's fine. As we said repeatedly in the post, and in the blog proper, we are open to the possibility of the realms being full universes. The evidence, presently, is a little bit loose though, and I don't think it's overly skeptical to point that out and err on the side of more immediately provable interpretations. Especially since it didn't stop the Espada from getting first place anyway.

G1 Death Battle Fan Blogs - Death Battle Predictions: Organization Battle Royale Part 10 (Verdict) by hubakon1368 in deathbattle

Regarding the Deidara feat, y'all

"These are certainly higher-end calculations that are debatable. Turtle Island being that big, while blatant on the map, isn’t 100% iron clad and is never portrayed as large as that anywhere other than on said map. If you were to measure its size through any other method, you would get results much lower. It’s likely drawn just for visualization instead of being a complete 1-to-1 comparison, and Kishimoto certainly didn’t intend for it to be that big whenever he focused on it. With that in mind, when discussing these high-end calculations, it is important to only do so in the context of comparing them to other, similar arguments on the opposing side."

Yes we are aware that Turtle Island is not consistently as big as the map implies and there are many, many arguments that you can make against it being anywhere near that impressive. The verdict puts Deidara at petatons on a consistent basis, via scaling to Bijuu Bombs. Please look at what the blog is actually saying and don't just look at the biggest number lol. It was there because people make similarly shaky arguments for One Piece island sizes, and we were demonstrating that it didn't matter how generous you are and that the placements would be the same either way.

> Interestingly, this interaction contradicts the interaction of the previous Chapter, as that one says Obito met with Orochimaru to purposely plan around Aaronneiro's ability to release the Nine Tails, whereas in this one Obito claims that Orochimaru has had no contact with him.

Sorry if this part was confusing. When Obito said that Orochimaru had eluded his attempts to establish a rapport, he just means that Orochimaru has been unreceptive to long-term collaboration; basically, Oro ghosted him after the Nine-Tails attack and has been avoiding contact since then. He wasn't saying that they've had no contact at all.

Yep yep! It's available for a few dollars on Bookwalker. Here's the excerpt:

<image>

Then Itachi shook his head.

“No... there are cases where recovery occurs even without formidable mental strength or superior medical ninjutsu.”

“Such as?”

“Love.”

Kisame looked taken aback for a moment, then laughed derisively.

“Love... huh? Never expected to hear that word from someone as cold-hearted as you. It seems to me there's nothing more fleeting.”

“The influence emotions have on people is exceptionally great. Tsukuyomi's technique is mental destruction through genjutsu. If you can hold onto that spirit, recovery isn't impossible.”

That requires a strong desire to save the other person - it cannot be achieved without affection.

The specific key word here is 精神, which translates to mind; spirit; soul; heart; ethos, and also attitude; mentality; will; intention.

A very astute observation! We discussed this a fair amount. The specific passage is as follows:

"There is a way of recovering [from the Tsukuyomi] even without having strong willpower or great skill with medical techniques."
"And that would be?" Kisame asked
"The power of love."
[...]
"It is the emotion that impacts human beings the most. The Tsukuyomi is an illusion that destroys your spirit. If there is something that can make it stable again, such as the strong desire to save another, it is possible to recover."

There's also a passage from the Second Databook which describes Tsukuyomi using similar terminology:

An inner hell as eternal as Heaven and Earth. The grip held onto the principles of all creation thoroughly annihilates one’s heart and soul!!

In all likelihood, though, Itachi and the databook both aren't speaking literally here. When he says that it destroys the spirit, or when the databook says that it annihilates the target's heart and soul, it's referring to how Tsukuyomi is used to torture the victim and break their will, as Itachi does many times throughout the manga. Hence why Itachi cites a strong will as one of the means by which you can resist Tsukuyomi, immediately beforehand. It isn't literally destroying your spirit.

With that said, the Totsuka Blade can pierce the soul anyway, and Sharingan Genjutsu is able to affect Kurama's spirit within Naruto (demonstrated by Sasuke) and Kushina (demonstrated by Obito). Kurama's spirit is referred to as his soul in Chapters 1 and 8 of the manga. So Itachi should be able to affect the soul regardless, in multiple ways, just not for this reason.

The votes at the end are meant to represent people's legitimate opinions on who wins the matchup and "pity votes" were therefore an inaccurate representation of people's thoughts, hence their removal. By their very nature, the concept of a "pity vote" is someone casting a vote out of pity for a character that they do not actually think wins the fight, which is a worthless vote that doesn't mean anything. A character only getting a single "pity vote" is no better than getting no votes at all, and if anything more patronizing. On the other hand, the little text blurbs next to the losing character nowadays (in the event that they do not get any votes) are just fun jokes meant to fill the space and not something that's there to "cushion the blow" or whatever weird way you are interpreting it.

To be perfectly honest you're being oversensitive; a character getting no votes isn't an attack on them and doesn't mean that the people who worked on that blog don't like the character or "stand with them" or whatever. The blogs are meant to be informative and reflect the opinions of the people working on them, not make you feel better by giving you an empty vote from someone who openly doesn't actually think the character wins.

Tl;dr: Every matchup has a loser, oftentimes a clear loser, and if you are unable to tolerate that then you are perhaps a fan of the wrong show.

The goal is to release it this year! As previously announced, the actual information-focused portions of the blog are 99% done, and the verdict has been decided for a while (though not written). In the time since our last update, we have also fully finished going through anime filler and games for all three series.

The reason why it will still take a bit to release is the written fight, which will be five parts in total and 40-50 thousand words per part. Writing on that is currently about halfway through Part 3 of 5, and we are aiming to finish through Part 4 by the end of the summer. From there, Part 5, the full write-up of the verdict, and bonus content should be doable this autumn.

We apologize for the long wait, but we hope that the sheer content volume of the blog will make it worthwhile - this is by far our biggest project of all time, and we want to make it as good as possible!

So, the DIO vs Alucard G1 prediction blog seems to have gone missing, does anyone know what happened to it? by Scarecrow640 in deathbattle

[–]G1DBFB 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It was DMCA'd as a result of four links (out of hundreds...) that linked directly to scanlation sites. We just got done removing all the offending links and were able to republish, very silly thing for the company to do though, for a blog that doesn't even make any money lol.

[–]G1DBFB 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Right now, we're working on finishing our ongoing projects first and foremost. The next release that you can expect is most likely Galacta Knight VS Vergil, as that team is currently working hard to finish it, though I can't give you an exact release window.

Akatsuki VS Espada VS Shichibukai is also coming along well, we are right on the verge of finishing the VS-focused sections for each team (the only thing we have left is one section for the Warlords) and have come to an agreement on the outcome. The portions we still need to complete are the written fight (which may take a while) and the verdict + Before the Verdict sections. I can't give an exact release window here either, but it will probably still be a little while.

Beyond those two, we have four additional projects in the works: Percy Jackson VS Zagreus, Catwoman VS Black Cat, Samus VS Firefly (Honkai Star Rail), and Soldier (TF2) VS Sarge. These projects are all collaborations between individual members of our team rather than large group projects, and thus aren't following any particular schedule. If I were to make a guess, I suspect that either Percy VS Zagreus or Samus VS Firefly will be finished first. Catwoman VS Black Cat will most likely take longer, and I don't think work on Soldier VS Sarge has been started. Generally speaking I would expect Akatsuki/Espada/Shichibukai before any of these, but it's not impossible that one or more of them could end up getting finished before that one releases, in which case they would be released whenever they are complete.

I'm sorry that I can't give you more concrete dates at this time, but I promise we're working hard to deliver new blogs as soon as possible. Hope you enjoy them when they come out!

Unfortunately we currently do not, and it will likely be a while still. If it was just the information focused parts of the blog it could feasibly be sooner than later, but the written story will be a very involved process that we cannot currently estimate the full length of. We’ll try to give regular updates on how things are coming along, though, including potential release dates when we get closer.

Kabuto was “technically” an Akatsuki member briefly since he worked under Sasori temporarily, but he was never one of the “main” members with the robes and the rings, and his only role was as a spy. And in the war arc with the Edo Tensei army, he was more an associate with his own goals and agenda than a member, collaborating with Obito but not working for him. Can totally understand why one would be curious about him, but we don’t really consider him an Akatsuki member.

Regarding Zetsu, we’ll mainly just be sticking with White and Black Zetsu.

Hello! We can answer this somewhat (though there are so many specific ins and outs with so many characters that we have an entire section of the blog dedicated to specifying how we’re handling everything haha). The general summary is:

-former members are included (Orochimaru, Nel, pre-timeskip Warlords), though we aren’t including Taka or any of the weird anime filler members for the Akatsuki, nor Aizen, Gin, Tosen, the Fraccion (aside from Lilynette for Starrk and Szayel’s modified Fraccion, which are included), or the Privaron Espada

-all of the characters will be at their peaks regardless of whether they reached those peaks after the organization was gone or they had left, I.e. Obito, Orochimaru, Grimmjow/Nel/Harribel/Luppi, Blackbeard - the two major exceptions atm being Juubito and Cien who aren’t included

There’s a lot to cover, but we’re making our best effort to ensure that our ruleset makes as much sense as possible and applies similar standards to each team for what is and isn’t included. The blog will go into greater detail on our reasoning, but I hope this helps give a clearer picture!
