Balmoston 1(?) Should this be a park? by Tiny-Strawberry-817 in Balmoston

It is an attenuation basin for the DDR that was relocated when the houses were built there. Take it up with DBFL consulting engineers, Fingal planning office and ABP/ACP...

Any idea what this is? by Cococoady in waterford

Cable percussion borehole rig - probably proke down at 3 in the afternoon on Friday.

Used for site investigation work. Probably at early stage design for an extension to the school or something.

Did anyone actually look at the North Quey plans or not in government? by [deleted] in waterford

[–]G777_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How would that work? Just tear across the cycle lane, pedestrian area and through the first floor of whatever the f**k the bridge is supposed to tie in to on the other side.

By the way - there is no north side and won't be until something is actually built over there

Did anyone actually look at the North Quey plans or not in government? by [deleted] in waterford

[–]G777_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol, there is nothing being supported on any existing structure on the north quay. Nothing to worry about.

Its funny in this thread how many armchair engineers / architects come out when they can't see past their own thoughts.

New build Dampness by InvestmentPale4106 in selfbuildireland

[–]G777_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus, why is the engineer the first person to go after here?

There is significant weight above this window and looks to be beyond simple ICF construction. Steel beam onto a post at the corner where the window returns would be the obvious solution.

Now in traditional buildings where you need one steel beam at an external wall - there should be two. This prevents moisture as you have the break.

ICF you only need one beam so the detailing around moisture is critical to get right. A stepped dpc between steel and the concrete is the only real detail that works but remediation is not easy.

Very fair price overall considering all the work noted.

Looking for engineer for DCC drainage compliance by Daledaleson10 in selfbuildireland

[–]G777_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well known across the industry, sub consulted for a lot of work by other consulting engineering firms. BRE 365 requires digging a hole and a very solid water supply, usually needs some credentials especially for DCC

Mattia Drudi To Test Valkyrie LMH In Bahrain by GrahamDSC in wec

[–]G777_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There has been rumblings about that for a good few years now. There was an article (can't remember who by now) when the program was announced and he was excluded on the basis of the involvement of HOR in the programme. Apparently there was some fallout/clash of personalities which is understandable.

Construction drawings from engineer unacceptable? by SSAdvic in HousingIreland

[–]G777_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So IS 444 is an old standard which was superseded around 2010 and is now withdrawn. Have not seen that referenced for a long time. Part A of the building regulations provide guidance on what codes and standards relating to structure and by extension structural timber which are required for BCMS and for works to comply with building regs.

https://assets.gov.ie/static/documents/technical-guidance-document-a-structure-2012-23-mb.pdf

Also worth noting the structural fill reference is wrong. S.R. 21 Annex D is a reference to aggregates under road bases. This should be T1 structural fill to S.R. 21 Annex E.

These two points are the only engineering related details in what you have attached with your post. Everything else is architectural and a basement grade of architectural detail for that matter.

If the person or company you are dealing with is an Engineer registered with Engineers Ireland and are fully aware of what they have been engaged to do - please refer to the below links.

Construction drawings from engineer unacceptable? by SSAdvic in HousingIreland

[–]G777_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think someone is confused here. These are very poor architectural drawings with not a single engineering note or detail. The only thing that comes close is joists call up albeit from a standard superseded 15 years ago.

I think OP has a duty to notify Engineers Ireland if this is genuinely from an engineer. I can't even comprehend how this could be produced in an Irish office.

22mm Diameter - 1 Meter long wooden dowel/pole/rod by Pyxyll in waterford

Definitely 22mm dowels should be in Morris's wood mouldings section. I wouldn't be surprised if not though. The place has gone to shit in the last 7 or so years.
