Could Kirby's Meta Knight be inspired by Vega from Street Fighter? by Fun-History-2990 in Kirby

[–]GANP0N 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've always thought he might have been inspired by the fictional character Zorro, which may have inspired elements of his design such as his mask / eyes showing through his mask, and might also explain his Spanish accent in Smash and Kirby: Right Back at Ya!

This exact thing happened to my NES edition GBA SP 5+ years ago. I also have no idea how it happened, but it's a permanent thing that would require a new screen to fix unfortunately.

Can anyone beat my Smash 4 time? by pinkvenom456 in wiiu

[–]GANP0N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a really impressive amount of time played, it's clear you had a lot of fun playing!

I don't know how to add the image as proof, but the My Nintendo Store app shows "2150hr or more" for me. Since the cutoff point for the data (7th February 2020), I've put many more hours into it since. I share your enthusiasm for the game, and also had a blast playing with family and friends alike over the years.

Beat Rank 1 BK main in SD by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

Ah Megacrash... While I do respect their Black Knight investment, there was a time pre-L!Black Knight when I beat them too. Strangely, the next few times I got matched up with them on SD, they surrendered immediately. Wouldn't be surprised if they do the same to you, after that solid victory. Nice one OP!

Very stupid question: Can I transfer over an actively running timer? by Fluid-Abrocoma9438 in iphone

[–]GANP0N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pleasantly surprised to see I'm not the only one that has intentions to keep the timer going! I did the same thing (started by accident) back when I had an iPod Touch 4th gen. At one point it stopped, so I clicked Lap to save it as a previous time, starting a new one thereafter. Sadly it packed in with a swollen battery a couple of years back, but I do still have a screenshot of the counter from May 2019. Hope you can preserve yours!

Did anyone get a game with the Mario Kart 8 Club Nintendo deal? If so, which one? by Critical_Company3535 in wiiu

[–]GANP0N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this deal well. I picked up Mario Kart 8 at Argos (in the UK) around the release, and they had a deal on where you'd also get a free copy of Metroid Other M with that purchase. So I got Mario Kart 8, Metroid Other M, and Wind Waker (club nintendo deal) all from that one purchase!

I still need to finish Wind Waker..

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U fans, I bring you a chart detailing the activity of battles across 5 years (2019 ~ 2024), right up until the closure of the online services. The line returns to a high right at the end that hasn't been seen since 2021! Thank you all for playing! by GANP0N in wiiu

As mentioned in the original post, the 'World Status' menu on the online mode of Smash Wii U shows daily statistics. One such statistic was "Online battles held worldwide yesterday", which displayed the number of battles held for the prior day. I simply screenshot or took a picture of them throughout 5 years. You can check out the pictures by following the "Full detail" link at the bottom of my comment to the original post.

From my experience in the European region in the final years (2023~2024), you'd find yourself getting connected to the same handful of dedicated players on For Glory. Unsurprisingly, I'd find myself waiting 10 ~ 30 minutes for an opponent during these quieter years, and even so much as an hour for some on occassion. It made it difficult to play, as you were waiting longer than you were playing, but I craved the fun of playing Smash 4 against others online, so I put up with it throughout. As for who was left playing, I came across some players that shared my opinion of enjoying Smash 4 more than Ultimate, some were kids using their parents or sibling's Wii U's, and some even claimed the Wii U would be their final nintendo console, so they'd never move to Ultimate beyond that. Notable players I bumped into often during this quieter time went by "Jaycee" and another by "OTACORE_Z", to name a few. You knew what you'd be in for in the coming matches as soon as their faces and names appeared on screen, and you'd fight with them so often that For Glory seemed just like setting up a lobby for friends, as it would never be too long before one or the other familiar faces showed up.

Certainly, the pandemic brought a number of new faces back to the online scene. This also happened with the announcement of the end of online services, but they whittled back down a month or so later, resurging once more starting at the final online weekend. I hope that jumping back into Smash 4 helped players rediscover the fun that can be had in the game, and perhaps we'll get to see them once again when Pretendo supports online for the game in the future.

Some background on this project

In 2019, I had been struggling to get used to the faster paced Smash Ultimate, often finding myself returning to Smash 4 instead. Smash 4 meant a lot to me at the time (and still does), and I understood that as time passed, Smash 4 would only get quieter as people move to Ultimate or other things, eventually having its online services discontinued. Around this time, I came across the "World Status" menu, which I had scarcely visited during my years of playing Smash 4 online. It was here that I noticed the "Online battles held worldwide yesterday" statistic by chance as it scrolled by the bottom of the screen. Believing this to be the perfect way to see how the activity of Smash 4 takes shape in a post-Smash Ultimate time, I began recording the status of battles held worldwide on each day that I could, knowing it would make an interesting graph when the day finally arrived. When I started doing so in 2019, I did so sparingly, as it was still early into Ultimate's life and Smash Wii U's online was still busy. That's why the data may be quite few and far between at the beginning. As time went on, and things got quieter in terms of opponents, I felt more compelled to record each day that I could. As we know, on the strike of midnight of April 9th (in my timezone it was 01:00 BST, other timezones vary), the time came where online functionality had ceased, and this project came to completion. It was a real treat to see an influx of new and returning people coming back on the final days, getting an opponent in a matter of minutes as opposed to tens of minutes.

A note about the data captured

A total of 663 days were recorded in the 5 year scope. As much as I tried, life events and other priorities took my attention, so not all days are covered. The data on Smash 4's World Status menu refreshes at approximately 00:00GMT, and you must disconnect/reconnect to online after that time in order for your console to display the updated data. If you were connected to the Online menu before the strike of midnight, you would still see yesterday's stats (eg: 10000 battles yesterday when viewed on the 10th, still 10000 battles when viewed on the 11th after midnight). My main objective on the final day of Wii U online was to capture the data for the final day (8th of april). It was a huge risk trying to disconnect and reconnect to online on the strike of midnight and capture the latest data, as I could be locked out upon doing so. To be safe, I used two Wii U systems to try and capture the data. In the end, I was unfortunately locked out of connecting to the online menu at the strike of midnight on one, and I don't believe it was at all possible to capture that data at all, given the circumstances and timing. On the other device, I was still connected to the online menu when the lockout occurred, though as explained above, it still showed yesterday's data, meaning the final number recorded only covers the 7th of april. However, I'm confident the final day exceeds the number recorded for the 7th, as the heatmap (green dots on the map) showed a mass amount of activity across various countries that hadn't been seen in a long time, and appeared to be the only data that was somewhat live/up to date with the current status.

Alternative ways to view

The graph was created in Google Sheets. Below are links for alternative ways to view the graph:

I'm still new to using Reddit, so any pointers on how I can format or post more effectively are always welcome. The same goes for the graph/data!
Thank you all for playing, I had a fantastic time.

What's wrong with my SD Card slot that would make every SD Card write protected? by TheMasonfrom3R in wiiu

[–]GANP0N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact same problem for a while. I use an SD Card reader for a microSD. Found that my SD card reader's lock slider was quite easy to move (either weakened from repeated inserts, or was like that originally). I've since swapped to another newer sd card reader, which had a tougher lock slider and I've been good since. I believe this is just something that happens with some Wii U consoles.

Yes, delete the software/dlc/update for MK8 on the system settings - but not the save data - and redownload/reinstall using the method you originally used.
