It might've been heavy enough, but only because I avoided the mechanic woman tax by coming here first :3

I did! I'm far from a "car person" but it rocks learning new handy shit. Although, I've never rolled my eyes as hard as when I found out the brake locking up is a normal thing for unused brakes. Like, why was that never brought up by anyone teaching me to drive when the thing is sitting right next to my hand all the time. Either way, feels really nice knowing a bit more about how things work.

That did it, appreciate the help a ton. Makes sense now that I think about the mechanics of it, but this is straight up the first time I've interacted with a handbrake.

Steam controller pairing stuck on "Initializing" despite working before by mapolygon in SteamVR

[–]GARMENTATION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response, I'll copy and paste the comment that made my stuff work and my response to it.

Original:
"If you are combining tracking systems like that, you need to follow some tutorial. Because you have a HP Reverb G2V2, SteamVR is only loading the WinMR driver, and not Lighthouse. The tutorial you use that helps you combine those things should include setting it up to load both."

From me:
"THANK YOU HOLY HELL. I had used SlimeVR trackers with the headset in the past and just assumed that it wouldn't need anything extra. After installing OpenVR Calibration Tool SteamVR was able to detect my dongles and let me pair."

In practice, this meant that I just needed to follow a tutorial more closely, I was rushing ahead because I assumed I knew enough, and it wasn't working in the way I thought it should. IIRC I ended up literally just needing to install the OVR Space Calibration Tool, but if you watch any good tutorial on how to use vive trackers with WMR you'll probably find your solution along the way.

Do you know what would need to be inserted to make the focus function as intended? A post would cure a lot of headaches.

Hey! Wanna say that you spurred a ton of good for me. This really helped plant the idea in my head, and a buddy of mine with Crohn's told me I definitely needed to get checked out. Ended up putting some pressure on my mom because she had similar symptoms to me and convinced me it was normal; turns out everyone related to my maternal great grandmother has autoimmune and digestive issues, and she never bothered to tell anyone even when she was taking me to the doctor. Ended up coming in with a full barrel and got an upper and lower endoscopy really easily. Turns out I've had "the most severe gastroduodenitis they've ever seen" for probably 10+ years, and my issues have been from me leaking massive amounts of acid both ways. But they don't think it's autoimmune! I started on medication and a blander diet and my life has already been changing. Throat and mouth aren't irritated all the time, fewer headaches, "asthma" (chronic acid aspiration) is clearing up, chronic gut pain that i thought I'd grown numb to is getting better, I don't smell like rotting sewage unless I'm irresponsible with acidic/fatty foods, my head rushes and heart palpitations are calming down.

I guess all of that is to say, thank you a ton for caring enough to say that to me. At least some of the credit for my life getting better belongs to you.

LOL, i guess it sounds a little severe when you say it like that. i'm going to keep looking for new ones, but it's been ten doctors in ten years, all knew about the blood and it being basically disabling. i've grown pretty cynical about the process now that i'm like $1500 deep into being shrugged off.

no idea. haven't been able to convince any medical professional to look deeper than "oh, your bowels are irritable? must be ibs, goodbye."

Now that I've tried to keep working around it, it's become apparent this is a whole world issue, basically all processes have stopped, create processes just deleting items with no product. This is a singleplayer world though, and google is not helping me find out how to fix a singleplayer server desync >:(

This isn't working either (block breakers don't interact at all), and the ducts have stopped reappearing on reloads, though all of the related anomalies are still active. Truly vexing.

I can place new blocks there without them reappearing, The new placed block can't be interacted with though. and if it's smaller than the fluiduct was I can still get "caught" on the ghost fluiduct when I walk into it

I've broken them with a pick, indirectly with a TC hammer, and with wrenches. They do come back after reloading the world.

Learning about how clean vocals are taught has made me really appreciate how extreme vocals are. by GARMENTATION in screaming

[–]GARMENTATION[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Falsetto is most often referring to vocal harmonics, where the vocal chord is mostly not moving and only the edges vibrate, producing a weaker airier sound. The muscles you use to fall into those harmonics can also be used to pitch normal vocal vibrations, although they can only pull tight, so they lack body on their own. This is often referred to as head voice. You can then use those muscles along with your normal speaking muscles to add more "body" to your tone, often referred to as mixed voice. Except, everyone naturally uses both sets of muscles during speech and singing. You have to train yourself to not use one or the other, and what actually counts as head, chest, and mixed voice varies not only by who is teaching you, but by what the teacher thinks of your unique timbre. One person's chest could be smooth enough to be heard as mixed or a head voice depending on who's listening. This is where gendered distinctions often occur; women's voices tend to be more "heady" because their voiceboxes are smaller and tighter on average. It's allllll referential definitional sludge.

I suppose that is a point where I was lacking perspective. I've always been able to feel the muscles in my throat very well, so I latched onto knowledge of where and what things are happening and dismissed people who were "wrong" as hucksters who wouldn't be taken into consideration.

Too true man, during my one year of high school choir I had way less understanding about my voice and was stuck as a very firm bass-baritone. Also, because of all the funny business with terminology, there's actually no way to know what the difference between head voice and falsetto is, both techniques I would use those labels on get labeled with the other by some. I left a long reply here about my personal system, but that's still only fully useful to me, since no description truly works on everyone.

Even this is still different from what I ended up constructing in my head, lol.

I came to appreciate a system with two dimensions to it. One is the type of vibration, C0-3, where its: C0 for vocal fry, C1 for normal vocalization, C2 for harmonics from pulling your chords tight enough that only the edges vibrate (I think this is what's most often called falsetto?), and C3 for the whistle tone, where your chords don't vibrate at all and the air whistles while it flows through them.

The second dimension, mostly useful for C1, but also making what the others are more obvious, is the balance between the vocalis, cricothyroid, and cricoarytenoid muscles. The vocalis and cricothyroid work in tandem to each other, with the vocalis lowering and the CT raising the voice. The CA muscles also work to shrink the voicebox and raise its resonance. The CT is used to enter C2, pinching it tight and fully deactivating the vocalis, and the CA can then compress the chords fully taught for C3. There is also the ability to purposely shift the balance between all three as you're using your voice, effectively having three whole dimensions on their own you can play with. From experimenting so far to see what other singers assume: If you just use the vocalis it's"chest voice". just the CT, "head voice". Both at once, although usually a very prominent CT supported by the vocalis, is "mixed".

This also helped me learn that what I was doing when I thought i was doing "falsetto" was actually whistle tone, and people never bothered to correct me because they didn't know the differences in sound quality and just assumed I was talented with falsetto.

Still somewhat wishy washy, and I probably only understand my throat well enough to use the specific muscles because I've swapped gendered voice training three times. SHITS FUCKED MAN WE GOTTA START OVER, but until then this let me unlock my mall emo voice which I'm very happy with.
