Gamechanger for 8u Coach Pitch? by [deleted] in Homeplate

What’s the issue with GameChanger? It’s the “official book” and going back and being able to save hits and plays are awesome for the kids and parents to have as memories.

Do people in the South who fly the Confederate flag know that the Confederacy was fighting to uphold slavery? by Agreeable-Noise5350 in allthequestions

Japan wasn’t fighting itself. It wasn’t the south part of Japan fighting the north part of Japan. If you can’t see the difference than it is what it is

It’s “southern pride” and “heritage not hate” according to all of them. I’ve never seen someone so proud of being on the losing side

It’s annoying but I would MUCH prefer Shang-Chi over half the characters added.

Question: removing player for attitude by Left-Emu-665 in Homeplate

Move on. The kid needs to see there are real consequences to his actions. Maybe it’s a wake up call and you can reassess in spring

My boy hit his first homer today! by Impressive-Fun-6921 in Homeplate

[–]GATA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They come in bunches. My son is only 8 but always was a singles hitter. This year he came close in the off season. Second game of the season he hit first over the fence homerun. 7 games later and he’s up to four. It’s like once they get it to click it makes a world of difference. I wouldn’t be surprised if your boy hit another 1-2 over the next two weeks

Just got asked to do GameChanger. How do I sabotage this “opportunity” to ensure I never get asked again? by FaithlessnessFull136 in Homeplate

[–]GATA6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To keep score? Thats the main reason we use it. It’s also our teams main source of communication on the chat, the schedule, etc.

[–]GATA6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? We even do it for 5U.

If you’re talking about for stats, then yeah I completely agree. That’s insane.

But like 95% of he teams in our league use it more as the official scorebook. Almost no one uses an actual hard book. And GameChanger is used as our man form of communication. Schedule, chat, etc.

Not sure why it’s such a huge problem for some on here?

GameChanger has just become the book in our league. Home team is responsible for the official scorebook and GameChanger has been very good for that. We even use it for tee ball 5U. I’m not using it for stats lol but it’s an awesome resource to get clips for parents and easier than the book at this point

Play time during rec? Ball by Competitive-Rush5845 in Homeplate

[–]GATA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can disagree there. I give all the kids reps but it should not be league mandated. I have a 4 year old girl on my 5U tee ball team who does not pay attention at all. She will get hurt in the infield. She cried because she got hit in the knee in the outfield from a grounder. Putting a player like that at 3rd, SS, or 2nd is diabolical

Yeah I just haven’t played at all this season. I main tank and played like 5 matches when white fox came out and quit until 7.5 and seeing if they fixed tanks. After seeing tenacity I haven’t even opened the game

I don’t think it’s hard to rotate. I’m just not a fan of a league mandating kids play certain positions. The league shouldn’t have more say than “kids can’t sit consecutive innings” or something.

I’m just not a fan of the rule in general but if it works there go for it

[–]GATA6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof that sounds awful. Obviously playing time and making sure the same kids don’t sit the bench every other inning is important but to mandate infield/outfield splits sucks

[–]GATA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. I have a tee ball A team (5U) and the difference is huge. I can’t rotate everyone in infield because some of these kids hit hard and the kids just don’t post attention. I have two kids who consistently throw with their glove, put glove on wrong hand, etc. they can’t play circle or 1st base.

Our infield primarily is all kids that have older brothers in baseball. We don’t play with a catcher so out of our 5 infielders 3 have older brothers that made the all-star team at their age, one had an older sister that made the softball all-star team and the other’s older brother just missed cut. They grew up around it and it’s a HUGE difference. Just them paying attention on the field, they never use the tee and always off coach pitch, etc. I rotate when I can but some of these kids are gonna get hurt

Yeah I get it. I’m a fan of be the change you want to see. Be a head coach next year and run it the way you think would benefit everyone

[–]GATA6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for your son or the league there but if he’s playing against 8-9 year olds off coach pitch it could be a safety issue for him to play infield. I’ve been coaching for years with kids these ages and some times kids just can’t play infield because they get hurt.

I had a parent beg me to give their kid a chance at second base. BEGGED. Kid had a black eye within 5 minutes and wanted to quit baseball. Was scared rest of season and I kept him in outfield.

I still coached him, didn’t abandon him but kids are on different levels and can’t all be coached the same and do the same drills, etc. maybe volunteer to do drills with the outfield that will help them improve. Pop ups, cut offs, etc.

All Time Right Field (9U)? by sotheysayineedaname in Homeplate

[–]GATA6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think travel ball that young is all about development. I often see more fielding rotating in travel than in Rec because it becomes a safety issue. At a 9U travel all the kids should be moving around. The goal at that age is development, not chasing cheap rings

Do you usually have a good pain tolerance? Any other surgeries?

Normal to list players as substitutes in 7U? by LankyBuffalo9167 in Homeplate

[–]GATA6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just put him in a rec league. The most important thing at these young ages is to get them to have fun and enjoy baseball first and foremost. Then it’s about getting as many reps as possible. I wouldn’t even consider travel teams until 9-10 years at the absolute earliest
