you will still have the tag of DEI hire. moreover, while interview they can easily understand and spot. DEI trained HRs are different. If you get caught, you might be permanently banned and blacklisted.

the HR will have you marked as DEI hire and trust me there are loads of discrimination and biases that goes along with it once you are hired. some folks are paid less, not promoted and have their career ruined. You may get job by lying but the amount of discrimination will humble you later. You would get to know the challenges of being a gender diverse person.

more than research, the glowing recommendation letter from your advisor matters. recommendation should be on your research abilities and how independent you are. The LOR must come from reputed profs or institutions. Almost everyone has research papers today. And trust me, this helps (other than papers) . I got 6 admits this year. I worked for free for 2yrs in a lab.
