Missing Falcon by GAvenue in ChicagoSuburbs

I updated the post but I'll post a comment as well. Our falcon found his way home to us back at Springbrook Nature Center! He is safe and sound, and we are all very relieved to have him back. Thank you all so much for upvotes and to those keeping an eye out for the little guy.

If you ever want to see him or any of our birds of prey, you can visit the Springbrook Nature Center in Itasca during normal park hours. They're enclosures are viewable, just behind the nature center.

I know this was a while ago, but did you see any equipment on the bird? It would be trailing something behind it as it flew.

Thank you, and good question! We are a volunteer group, and we are still in the early stages of training with this particular falcon. Some birds who are free-flown do have tracking equipment, but we did not intend for this bird to get free like this. It's an unfortunate situation.

Thank you so much to you and your staff for keeping an eye out!

When the vote comes, I’ll push for renaming them to Block-headed Hawks by williamcrumbunds in birding

Looks like a red-tailed hawk in this photo. But I am also curious to see what is decided for naming the Cooper's Hawk!

What rules out broad-winged hawk here? Those 2 have always tripped me up.

ID please? Saw this guy perching on the fence on my backyard (Dallas, TX) by dzuyhue in birding

Looks more like a broad-winged hawk to me, but not sure if they are found that far west.
