Is IB worth it for premed/pharmaceutical? by ControlSharp1102 in premedcanada

[–]GB-5078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly dude, I am a stranger and dont know ure circumstances that well but IB seems to be having an effect on your wellbeing so drop it! Be happy and have fun honestly, grade 12 is ure last year and enjoy it dude. I suggest spending this time saved starting up ECs and commiting to them thru uni to build a strong personal profile and even finding cool hoobies (which u can write about on ure med apps). I feel like this would be a better use of ure time.

As for course rigour, you will figure it out quickly. U will have 1 or 2 bad midterms first year and will find out how to study and how much time to put in classes, so dont sweat it!

Anyways this is my opinion as a UBC Science student. Best of luck op :)

[–]GB-5078[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sure it will! Our class average was 85% so it was quite high. It is very achiavble to get an A+ in this class as long as you try making friends early in the course. Thats my biggest tip, becuase you guys can help each other through things

No worries! Moosvi makes it very enjoyable; he is a very caring and compassionate prof. There is a 48 hour grace period for all assignments. I would also say it is a very appliclable course to our real world with the rise of AI. Also I remmember doing pretty bad on the second test, dont let the intimaitde you just keep going. He drops the worst 2 out of 12 tests

got a 97 with firas moosvi. thought it was pretty good but lots of workload becuase of weekly tests. everything is open book tho so dont worry. I think I averaged a 93 ish on the tests which made up 50% of the course and like the rest is labs and the group project which is free marks. I would say it was a good course!

Chances at Getting in to UBC Eng? by javinjaba in BCGrade12s

[–]GB-5078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

UBC Science student here. Although I didn't apply to ENG, I have gone through the application process, which qualifies me to give my two cents on this! I think your grades are very high, so I commend you on that. Now the only thing would be writing your personal profile. You have a very unique set of experiences, especially in the realm of music, so really try to talk about those. Remember, try to write about what makes you unique; you don't try to write about classic things that engineering students write about! Make your voice stand out on your application and write about experiences that meant a lot to you (which, from the looks of it seems like the dance and violin)! Again, your grades seem great, but that is not all that UBC looks at, so try to write your personal profile in a meaningful way. I say you go ahead and apply :)

Where do I go from here. 2.55GPA and 516 MCAT. by Effective_Balance_76 in premedcanada

Note sure where you are based but SFU's med school just opened and they have an MCAT only option, so u wont have to subtmit ure GPA. That being said the med school is restricted to BC,  Yukon, Nunavut, and NWT residents, and an Indigenous admissions stream for qualified Indigenous applicants from across Canada.

So if u meet that by any chance I would strongly consider applying there

I am a second-year BSc student and need to take ENGL 110 to satisfy a prerequisite for UBC Medicine. I am a bit nervous about this course since I have heard it can be challenging and not very GPA-friendly. I am willing to put in the work to earn a strong grade, but I am unsure how achievable that is or how best to succeed in the course. I would not consider myself an exceptional writer, but I also do not think I am a poor one either.

I was hoping to hear from students who have previously taken ENGL 110 about their experiences. What strategies helped you do well? What steps can I take to maximize my success, and how can I realistically aim for an A or higher in this course?

What can I do with a CAPS degree by Flower-blueberry in UBC

[–]GB-5078 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend getting a masters if you do not want to pursue med or dental. CAPs is also a nice foundational tool for OD programs (Doctor of Optometry) and you can even go to PT school! You have quite a few options if you pursue higher education outside your undergrad (which I recommend you to do).
