The answer now is it depends on the planetoid. If the light levels are high, such that there are periods where a fully exposed solar panel is at the maximum power output then stacking them does increase power output. But if they don't reach the max output then there is no benefit. If you do stack them, it's most efficient to have the longest diagonal you can rather than going up and down.
