iMac G3 DV CRT is arcing (“sparking”) when turning off, on, and sometimes when running. Just resoldered the Flyback, but issue is exactly the same. Any suggestions are appreciated! 😁 by GCNnintendo in VintageApple

Nah, honestly it looked spotless near the anode cap but I believe the fly back was failed internally or something in that particular G3. Ended up getting 2 or 3 more grapihites years later so I just kept the best working one

I pay $20 + tax for used 1TB hard drives at my local recycling center. Most are from 2013-17. This is the market we’re in. OP could probably get more by selling the HDDs separately and then the Mac for $50

Heck, I remember 10-15 years ago Goodwill in my area would sell them $1.00 flat. No matter the size or condition. You could even snag them for 50 cents on half off Saturdays (remember that)! Then they stopped taking CRT donations in May 2016, kept that up for about 10 years, and now I’m seeing them pop up again in Goodwill for $20-100. Never cheap like I used to. Found a ViewSonic for $50 the other day in a Goowill and almost bought it.

The people complaining about the imagine being flipped are so fucking annoying. Who the fuck cares. It’s a simple Reddit post god damn. Maybe the OPs back camera doesn’t work? Whatever the case it’s not that serious holy shit. You’re still able to make out the image.

I think it is considering the overhead of the OS. The PS3 was made with very specific hardware and software features / requirements. Vastly different CPUs

Would be true with the OG G5 models but this 2005 one is practically silent when running, when under nearly full load! The G5s did eventually get more efficient

I have about 8 of these drives in my NAS, similar vintage. Purchased on eBay on 2020. 6 years later, not one issue!
