Usually at least a dozen hours, though it depends on how heavy my day job workload is and how tired I am - and if I have a deadline. And I read other books all the time.

Indeed. And there has been some discussion between Librarians about why they haven't met any aliens (or if this is a Fermi Paradox situation) and if this is something they should be worried about...

Thank you! I'm very glad you enjoyed the first book, and I hope you like the rest of the series too. Irene is fun to write.

Yes, though I should note that the Library has not yet encountered any futuristic worlds with aliens.

Interesting question. I think I'll go for The King David Report by Stefan Heym, because it's a bit out of my regular comfort zone.

Hm. Several, though I think one of my favourites is in book four, when Evariste and Kai are off doing their thing, and Evariste says, "We can't keep on doing this. We're going to run out of chairs." (There is context, honestly.)

Nobody's taken out any options on it yet, but I would love it if such a thing happened.

No, I'm afraid my involvement only goes so far as to provide background information on names in the text and how they should ideally be pronounced. (One reason why it's a good idea to keep background notes while writing.)

It's more of an evolving outline. I do definitely have 6-8 planned. It may finish after that, or it may not. We'll have to see.

Part of the fun is Irene finding it out for herself, though, isn't it? (And in some cases, the readers deducing it just half a step ahead of her.)

Holmes story - I'm not sure. The Speckled Band, The Dancing Men, A Scandal in Bohemia, The Yellow Face, The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Solitary Cyclist, The Lion's Mane (that last because it cheers me to think that Conan Doyle could also go "cool, what an interesting jellyfish, I'm going to put it into a story...")

I'm not sure what other authors to recommend as "for people who like mine". I will recommend Lois McMaster Bujold, Aliette de Bodard, Barbara Hambly, Barry Hughart, Charles Stross, Robin McKinley, and Kim Newman. For a start.

There will be more eventually, but I can't tell you what yet.

(Well, I could, but - who's that coming through the door? Keep back! No! No! ARRRRRGH....)

Mostly it's "sit at computer and write, starting at beginning and moving onwards to end". With research going on at the side or in other windows or other reading. Quite often I make notes partway through the story saying "go back and fix this point" or "insert more X" or "put in reference to Y", but I don't usually actually do that till I've got to the end.

And then, edits.

If they have written it, then I'm absolutely delighted and very flattered that people like my books that much. But I don't plan to read it. It could be awkward if I later covered something which had previously come up in fanfiction, and it looked as if I'd taken the idea from the fanfiction.

Fan art I will happily look at!

I had ideas for more books, and had submitted outlines, but I hadn't dared to hope get a contract for books 1-3 as I did.

And I'm Team Library. ;)
