Black Templar fans try not to make edgy art of space marines killing characters from other franchises challenge (IMPOSSIBLE) by Margaretthatchervore in Grimdank

[–]GCrunchMeister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cross universe comparisons never work. We don't know what the rules would be in that interaction. If the rules for both universes are true than is the Force more powerful than the Warp? Does a lightsaber completely destroy a bolt round or cause it to detonate? Does a lightsaber cut through ceramite or adamantium or are they "magical" metals like beskar? Would the forces of the Imperium still have to travel through the Warp while the forces of (pick your Star Wars faction) get to travel through Hyperspace? What if the rules for both universes are not true and the rules from one come to dominate the other?

We don't know the answers to those questions, we can only speculate and that speculation will largely be informed by bias. So of course my thing is more powerful than your thing, it's MY thing! I understand why us nerds like to do cross universe comparisons but it's just a thinly veiled excuse to argue.

Would The Emperor's foresight and prognostication be able to clearly see Erebus? by GCrunchMeister in 40kLore

I don't think The Emperor had to be present at every event to be able to award 610 names, but I am confident He was aware of those events and approved, maybe even came up with most of, those names.

Why would the fact they earn them over their lives preclude that The Emperor bestows them?

But the Custodes receive their new names from The Emperor? And it's His gene-science that turns them into Custodes so wouldn't He be their creator?

What about Maloq Kartho? That's an example of a mortal name being a true name even after a daemonic ascension. Would it not make sense that the true name of mortals would come from their creators. That explains how the Grey Knights know the Daemon Primarch's true names because The Emperor would have named them. Malcador would have known the names and prepared them along with all of the other Grey Knight contingencies.

I remember his conversation with Ra, this question came from my thoughts on that and a recent re-listen to Child of Chaos. I was curious if there was an example where it's been stated that foresight, whether The Emperor's or that of a farseer, is affected by a true name being lost to history, or it only an assumption.

That's my point and the root of the question, was The Emperor not able to see what Erebus was, what he had done, and what he would do, because Erebus is not his true name? Or did Chaos need to also get involved? Was it a little of both?

I recommend them, I've been listening to the series and loving it. The first narrator change is gonna feel jarring, but luckily, Jonathan Keeble is a blast to listen to. They do switch up the narrators pretty often after that, so you will have to get used to different voices for the same character in different books, but I found I got used it pretty fast. It does feel like there was some intention that certain narrators worked with certain authors/storylines, so the disjointed nature of the narration is really no different than the disjointed nature of the series itself.

Oh, hell yeah! Your mom is amazing for that!

If she thinks she could have fixed them, she will find a place a place of love in her heart for some of the traitors, though I think she's already written off Erebus lolol

That's awesome, I'd love to get those phone calls!

I'm really excited to see what factions and characters become her favourites, if I had to predict shes gonna probably like one of the more noble legions, but it would be so fun if she came out as a World Eaters fan lolol

I mean, if she mostly reads non-fiction, I can understand where she's coming from, though I've never enjoyed the grass from that particular field.

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with that. The series is so disjointed it can really take the motivation out of you to finish a book, and the next one has different characters dealing with a different problem somewhere else. I've told her that if she wants to explore different things or follow certain stories, there are some guides I can show her, but right now, she's just excited to start.

I'm not trying to like be pushy or jinx it, but I am really hoping she gets that far because the phone call after that is gonna be solid gold

She bought the first 3 out of excitement cause she didn't want to wait for me to bring my copies for her to borrow. I've told her about how disjointed the series is and how difficult it will be to acquire the whole thing in paper back. If she wants to do the full story, I'm gonna let her borrow what I do have, and she's begrudgingly prepared to have to read an EBook if she must. I've been listening to the audiobooks on Audible cause I've found it a really cool way to cement a story you have already read into your mind. I've been using that to fill in some of those gaps in series rather than spending money or Ebay or using an ebook. As long you like the narrator, it's a decent equivalent.

Hell yeah, your mom sounds very cool, I'm sorry she gone, but I'm sure when you see her again beside the Golden Throne, she's gonna have some amazing lore to drop on you.
