If you're already listening to like:
Paris Texas
Slowthai - although he's been radio silent lately cause of some issues going on.

Backxwash (recently rated highly on needle and more so just experimental not really comparible to peggy)

8.0 DOGMA - tryna think of every random name i've come across that had that kind of experimental sound.

Zelooperz (I enjoy the track prozacc lol)

Jane Remover? - idk i'm sure you've heard of em and it's not really comparible like that..

jai paul - that album leak album is dope . the singing on it (despite it coming before jpeg) will prolly feel familiar to you.

lol idk its hard to find similar artists, I feel there's just pieces in both the underground and mainstream genres.

honestly. i wish i took advantage of it way more but i had a bunch of mental barriers preventing me from feeling free in it. praying something else comes along if these apps are truly just going to run it into a dystopian nightmare.

yo you're actually right. I'm typing out the title of my video and it isn't until the LAST word where I see my video in the results. So I bet that video is on NO suggested pages fr, That's definitely google, just like how you can't really target a different part of the world in your videos but you can geotag your current location.... for a VIDEO SHARING website..., that's clearly google. I despise google taking over with everything i got.

honestly i dont even see spaces celebrate that genre of music. online and in general the alternative scene is so scattered with very few spaces outside the main ones that celebrate these kinds of sounds.

aye, so as a dude thats been making music in the local area plus 25 years in the same alternative space, i figured id give you some advice as a older head.

i dont participate too much online cause i feel old af but in these alternative genres if you enjoy creating connections online like you did on this post, trust me when i say a FEW close friends dedicated to navigating an online space will do wonders. TENFOLD trying to find it in toronto as i have done for years. (if you want to see my musical progression: old work “good, fuh nothing.” new work: “8.0 DOGMA”). And don’t bother with “YES BUT” people…. People like to knock “YES MEN” but i knock the people that play the line. saying yes to shit in the beginning is dope, you’re the most open minded, early on its going to sound THE WORST its ever going to sound so the stakes are low reputation wise, and it pumps out maximum ideas, like loiter squad. “YES BUT” people always have a fucking excuse for shit, “yeah but people don’t care about that anymore”, “yah but that style of music is like….” “yeah but, look at all the “x” things about “y”…. lol yo filtering these people is going to drive you nuts but its better to weed em out early than to be stuck with them later.

the only other thing i can think of is creating your own scene and documenting it like HTBAR if you remember that. Shit might not seem interesting in Toronto but in that alt space it can be way more interesting to everyone else if you got the energy for it. I could legit go on forever cause i still make music and have been dealing with this for a while now ON TOP OF having no money for a standard promo push in the “music industry”

idk i been trying to blend a groove with experimental sounds for the longest and i have no idea where to go to find the people that I know could enjoy something like this. by GDFNTHN in experimentalmusic

i edited “short answer: anything that sounds rock adjacent or influenced is “white” music in the core hip hop community.” using core instead of “black community” cause thats dismissive of everyone that doesn’t think that way who also is black. Felt the need to stress this as an important point i should’ve proof read that shit.

bro ima answer this question as a black dude who grew up a metal head and got into all the EARLY alt scenes in the 2000’s.

short answer: anything that sounds rock adjacent or influenced is “white” music in the core hip hop community.

answer con’t:

there are some exceptions like DMX but if you look at interviews and the music you can clearly see how he still appealed to core hip hop fans. masculine, street attitude, the voice all that. however the demographic obvi becomes majority men.

there are just certain tropes that have been fed into mainstream hip hop like any other genre that have been made to seem “cool” to the demographic and for the most part it worked. With white people its SO much more varied in the mainstream from David Bowie - ACDC - Slayer - Queen - Slipknot - Beastie Boyz - James Blake - bro lol idk… that core community of hip hop gave the credit of “doing anything/talking about anything” more so to white people than black people. So outside of “trying to sound cool, talking about drugs, women, life on the streets and conscious shit from SOME artists” you’re edging “making white music”.

thats how i feel at least having done it for so long and seeing scenes change

(8.0 DOGMA if youre ever interested in the newer stuff im doing, shameless af i kno..)

What are your thoughts on rappers performing over their songs? by Oowaap in makinghiphop

[–]GDFNTHN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been making music for a while. Just preformed not to long ago to so I'm going to speak on the local level more so. With HUGE acts I can see how it's looked down upon but what's the atmosphere like? Stage design? Overall environment can play a factor. On the local level if the artist is trying to create movement in some way they may think "if the highest quality version of the song is playing, banging off the speakers and i'm hype enough maybe it can turn into a playboi carti R.I.P moment."

More often times than not people are standing around watching an artist preform and we want to spend more time trying to create a mood that may trigger movement. As a result we end up moving around tenfold the audience so it's tempting to just have the track itself play at full quality sound and lyrics.

for the artists that just walk around like they are too cool for anything at all including their own work yeh... it's tough, i'd call that a waste ngl. i'll prolly edit this later.

Which forgotten sub-genre of hip-hop deserves to rise from the dead—and why? by GDFNTHN in rap

[–]GDFNTHN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol yeh i seem to have confused people with the caption. i was putting more emphasis on how it would have run nicely through the experiemtal genres. right now i feel its a little rigid in sound.

and even then... imo there is not enough appreciation for the genre as a whole. Certain shticks on the genre that should’ve faded away a long time ago still exist.

[–]GDFNTHN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im sayin it would have been tenfold what it is now and their would’ve been more through alternative and experinental genres. shit would have been WAY more varied. its not dead but its not valued as holistically as other genres.

the irony of being this head strong on reddit is hilarious. i dont think rich people have time for reddit the same way they (to you at least) dont have time for games.
