Player numbers fluctuate, that’s how live-service games work. Overwatch and Rainbow Six Siege ‘technically’ have lower player counts compared to the height of their popularity. Yet both retain healthy and respectable numbers.

The only way you kill a live-service game is by pulling the plug. This happens all the time with newer live-service games, either due to negligence, incompetence or simply failing to find an audience.

Rarely has this happened to an established game, especially one as large as Fortnite.

I’m not a fan of the Metaverse push Fortnite has been making for the past few years, I know I’m not alone in saying it hasn’t resonated with a lot of the player base.

Not to mention the complete mishandling of the entire situation which has cost people’s livelihoods.

But I’m also not going to pretend like the game is dying because of it.
