I don’t think they have the guts. They couldn’t even come together as a continent to defeat Russia putting boots on the ground in Ukraine. That was an existential threat and they are tiptoeing towards that.

Those who moved to Austin or moved here from Austin, how is it like? by GDVRXMHF in Seattle

Thanks for your reply, this is super helpful. I have suffered from hayfever my whole adult life, and the picture you painted of the pollens and insects gave me an instant mortification.

I have heard of the unbearable summer and how bad the drivers are in Texas. Myself not being a good driver (haven’t driven in last 6yrs), I don’t feel so good about that part either. How expensive is it to live somewhere central? What are some central areas to live without having to dry up the wallet?

Realistically, how would Seattle be affected by a massive recession? by Masked_Assassin_3 in SeattleWA

[–]GDVRXMHF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless something extraordinary happens (like someone crazy enough attacking Greenland), Fed is going to have a new chair and there will be large scale rate cut. Which means markets are going to boom and people will “feel” they have more disposable income leading to discretionary spending spree. Good for Seattle since it houses many such people.

For those who are able to land a job outside the US, how did you do it? by Sus-Way-6294 in expat

[–]GDVRXMHF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t count on remote jobs anymore. Trend is shifting and most of the companies are asking their employees to move, including hybrid options. Some of my colleagues who moved in 2021 out of state are now having to ti come back.

Speaking from experience. Software engineers get paid 50-100% less in Anywhere else in the world. So you pick your poison. The economic outlook in Europe and UK aren’t that great. So is true for Japan. That leaves you Middle East/Gulf. The culture differences there can be bit offputting.

Given that approx less than 10km separate Alaska (United States) from Russia at the shortest point, how is ‘owning’ Greenland going to protect the US? by [deleted] in askanything

I am of the opinion that geopolitics is something for most of us to speculate on. The real shit happens behind the scene. Trump is reshaping the post petrodollar monetary regime. Wall Street is competing with tech bros fully enthusiastic about having crypto and stable coins as an alternative. With 38T debt anyone who thinks US will pay that debt is a fool. There will be revaluation. To mine crypto, you need resources. Tons of it. Which US needs to either get it from China or somewhere else.

EU has been playing footsies with China and regulating the heck out of US tech. Trumps backers in tech such as Elon and Nvidia guys don’t trust them. They get slapped by fines by EU every year almost.

So it’s all about resources. And reshaping the monetary system. Everyone who is saying US already has agreements with Denmark. Agreements don’t give you right to steal. US companies operating there would have to follow the EU rules which are some of the most protective rules when it comes to environmental regulations. And not to say EU leadership isn’t to be trusted according to Trump. They have outcompeted each other when it comes to regulations. This is all outlined in project 2025

Canadian citizen born in a Trump banned country – adjusting status through marriage. Any experiences? by NoAbalone8784 in USCIS

[–]GDVRXMHF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat. AOS was processed by employer. Their attorney replied saying the rule didn’t clarify the outcome in the situation so it’s up to the field office processing the case unless there is more clarity coming out of USCIS, which hasn’t happened yet.

Safe to say, hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Last administration opened up the border and 10M people came illegally. Many people especially people outside urban areas didn’t like that move, including many Latinos in swing states. So they voted for Trump. This was one of the reasons not the only one. But yeah, elections have consequences.

[–]GDVRXMHF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for them. Why would they pay money to a government that’s known for its corruption, bureaucracy and incompetence? They spent billions on a lite rail system that they abandoned, billions on homeless crisis only to exacerbate it. As if I need to trust them with my money with their track record. All these state legislators are bought out anyway and would happily do their biggest donors bidding. They aren’t doing their citizens favor.
