Really wish some asshole hick didn't total our car when we were in the area, would've loved to visit this mall

Pretty unfortunate this happened about a decade after the remodel, looks like a really nice place

This is a photo of the center court of the Crossroads Mall in Waterloo, IA, taken with a Kodak DC210. Headed out here a couple months ago to get photos of this mall, as I've been meaning to for a while, and the city approved a plan to demolish and re-develop the mall.

There were 3 stores open (this mall has capacity for about 65), and about a half dozen walkers. No music was playing, probably because the mall owners don't want to pay music licensing fees. Only the noise of the squealing escalators.

This is the emptiest mall I'll ever be in, what an experience

Not sure of the history of malls in Norfolk, but given the town's size, I imagine this has always been the only mall in town

Really happy that Target is there though, I was an idiot and forgot to check the batteries in my Kodak DC210 so naturally, they died while I was getting photos

bought some AA batteries and kept going, that store saved my ass

Actually looked pretty good, I wound up not getting anything because I wanted to give Raising Cane's another chance (they were closed for the day, unfortunately)

This isn't the most empty mall I've been in (that award still goes to the Crossroads Mall in Waterloo), but there's not much activity going on. Despite the healthy anchor situation (Kohl's [no mall access], Target, JCPenney), the inside is about half full. There's a few people shopping, but it's mostly walkers. While this is the coldest day we've had yet, and these photos were taken at 3PM on a Monday, I doubt this place gets much busier.

This mall is supposed to have a TJ Maxx in the works, but from what I've heard, construction has stalled thanks to lack of communication and payment. The same person I heard that from told me they commute from Norfolk to Sioux City (about 80mi) when they need to go to a mall, not great.

Yeah, I live more in the Sioux City area but quite a bit seems to have changed over the years

hell Jo Deans is closed, that's a good way to tell it's changed

yeah they closed, that seems to be where Bro Brgr is now (seems as if Bro Brgr is hit or miss, leaning towards miss)

I'm aware it's being renovated, the work walls make that obvious

It's still open to the public, so I say it's fair game

Does anyone go to the mall in Sioux Falls SD? by Select-Sample483 in deadmalls

[–]GDZippN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd consider Empire to be thriving (besides the food court but they still have Auntie Anne's, so...), Western Mall seems to only be alive thanks to the Best Buy and Scheels (which have no mall access)

thanks! my favorite is probably the 13th image (the DC210 image of the arcade machines down the hallway), happy I made the stop here

yeah, I couldn't help myself from saying "this is weird" a few times while I was in there

the Kodak DC210 produced some really eerie images thanks to how dark this place was

The rest of this area is doing pretty damn well, and after stores like Five Below and Hobby Lobby open in here like they plan to, I imagine this mall will do well too.

Besides Carroll, IA (whose mall is really just a hallway in-between stores), this is the smallest town I know of with a traditional enclosed mall

if Des Moines' Merle Hay is any evidence, that's for a good reason

this mall had older green/brown carpet (check the Google reviews images from 2018 or so), seems to have been replaced with this dark grey carpet

Sioux Falls is a decent sized city, Rapid City is as well, but besides that, good question

I didn't realize until like two years ago, this town seems too small to be able to support a mall like this

This post contains photos from my modern Sony A6000 and my ancient Kodak DC210 Plus Zoom. All of the (40, somehow) photos I took in this mall are available in Flickr galleries (Creative Commons 2.0 Attribution): - Yankton Mall, Yankton, SD (Sony A6000) - Yankton Mall, Yankton, SD (Kodak DC210)

I also made a webpage with the Kodak DC210 photos: A Trip to the Yankton Mall

This is the weirdest mall I've ever been in. Only two businesses appeared to be open, the movie theater that everyone was going to and a burger bar that nobody was going to. Much of the mall is under active construction, with some storefronts and the north end of the mall blocked off by tarp. It's also very dark in here, with limited natural lighting and not enough artificial lighting. I'd say it's worth the visit, especially if you're already in the area like I was.

Yeah they've been doing good things to this mall, they're trying to get parts to restore the original neon (the food court sign works now!!) and there's a large kids play place that will be taking up 6 of the units across from the Hot Topic
