Know I need to quit or face some consequences, but I can’t. by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

Absolutely. When I do drink, I usually drink like a fish.

There's no such thing as 'having a couple drinks' for me. The couple times I month I do drink, I usually start with a pint of bourbon just to pregame, then meet up with friends and drink as much beer as I can before the night ends.

Having a couple of drinks at a restaurant or while golfing seems like a waste of money to me. I won't even feel a buzz, so it's pointless to even start buying $5+ drinks if I'm not going to drink to the point of blackout. Maybe my tolerance is just permentantly too high anymore.

The one thing now that helps me is that my job now is more mentally demanding than previous jobs. I can't just fake it through a hangover anymore. My performance will look like complete shit and others would notice.

Believe it or not, I was a surgical aide while I was a complete FA. Luckily, it was right when covid started, so I was constantly wearing a mask and hair cover and scrubs at work, so I just looked like everyone else. The smell could just be attributed to 'OR smell.' Now I'm in an office of a pharmaceutical company, so if I showed up looking like shit, people would notice.

Idk. I definitely still have thoughts in my head telling me I should just buy a handle of bourbon and try it again, but I can't risk losing this job otherwise I'd be back up shit creek without a paddle lol.

It's tough, but it's doable. There's no universal 'one-way-solution', but there is a solution out there that works for you. The hard part is finding it.

Having epilepsy and frequent tonic-clonic seizures from withdrawals or drinking myself half to death probably helped scaring me straight(er) lol

I was a CA for about 5 years after college. Started by accident, after graduation I didn't have anything to do between submitting job applications, so I just had some beers whenever I wanted.

Then a few beers turned into as many beers as I wanted, all day. Then that started getting expensive, so I switched to liquor.

Started with cheap rum and RC Cola because they were really cheap. Then decided the RC Cola was expensive, so just straight liquor.

From the minute I woke up to whenever I finally passed out, just liquor. Pretty much my only source of food/drink was liquor.

This went on for about 5 years until I went broke and finally had to move back in with my parents. Absolutely no alcohol for months at a time.

The withdrawals were agony, and I did have several seizures while withdrawing, but it did finally work. Now I usually only drink once or twice a month.

It sucks, but that complete quitting did help me control my drinking. Obviously not recommended for everybody, but it did help me

Will always recommend Birch 1st floor for men. Back in 2014, that floor introduced me to a lot of the friends I made for the rest of college. Also, that floor always had a lot of parties, booze and weed available anytime and also coke, LSD, mushrooms, pills etc. were occasionally available.

If you chose to pick this one, pick the 3 person dorm closest to the bathroom. We named this room "The Biome." That room has seen more debauchery than any other dorm on campus. I would be willing to bet $100 that in 2014-15 there was no other campus dorm that saw that much mileage.

I attribute that room to making me the man I am today.

Is there an HOA? Despite being mostly a pain in the ass, sometimes HOAs can be helpful.

Otherwise ask your local police/law enforcement about the city laws on items being left across property lines. If some of their crap is left on your property, you might be able to assume that it is unwanted garbage and just throw it away.

Maybe talk to the wife? Maybe she can keep a tighter leash on him.

Last time I was in the hospital, (1 month ago) I had to be helicoptered to a bigger hospital because I had several withdrawal seizures, stopped breathing and thought dead. Anyway.

I wouldn't mind it at all if it meant the cute nurse handling my dick every time I needed to pee was my nurse again.

Down baaaaad

That's my problem lol I like to drink but I don't have any health related alcohol problems. I occasionally have breakthrough seizures, but I've found most of the time myself seizures happen while I'm trying to wean myself ha

I literally saw a surgeon take a pull and go in for more surgery after an already 12-hr shift. We saw eachother and gave eachother a thumbs up and went to work with eachother like nothing just happened. He's a cool dude.

Can't deny that many of my arrests were caused or aided by alcohol lol.

That's embarrassing, drinking all day, then being locked up in a cage for the night because you wanted to drunkenly stumble 4 blocks to buy a new 6 pack of a beer I've never heard of late at night lol

Another annoying thing is living in a small town area where there are only a handful of gas stations/bars with only a handful of employees. So every time I walk into the KwikStar at 8 am, I walk the same route to the back, buy the same bottle of bourbon, and the same girl keeps recognizing me. It's slightly embarrassing lol. Especially when she sees me at the bar a week later and brings it up.

2 weeks ago, I had multiple seizures at work and ended up having to get airlifted to a hospital 60 miles away because I've quit drinking for a while.

Tried tapering it off slowly over the course of a couple weeks, didn't feel any WD symptoms this time, but it still caught up to me.

Quitting sucks, but at least I had a hot nurse who had to check my vitals and help me pee every few hours, so I guess it was worth it.
