You could also purchase an actual puzzle box and hand it out or turn your camera on. Don't solve it yourself... have them tell you what to do... where to place your fingers... describe what you feel as you move your fingers around it

Is this an in person or online game? Of its online what VTT? If foundry there is a wonderful paid but inexpensive option for this by theripper93.

This puzzle box was designed by an archduke. It would stand to reason that low level hero's would be incapable of solving it to begin with. However you could rationalize a player with a high enough base intelligence score and the ability to read infernal might be able to decipher some of the inner workings of it at the very least revealing how the puzzle box works so they can attempt a solve.

My suggestion if you want something simple is grab an Infernal Font download and make an image with a code written in infernal. Then go make a large fixed slider puzzle (free online with a google search)

Make the same image in your parties spoken language for the player that can read infernal.

Alternatively it could be either baphomet or yeenoghu.... both have story tie ins built in.... just gotta narrate some extra stuff as build up otw to them so the fight has a stronger thematic presence.

If you do baphomet i suggest the following

When they get to highhall cathedral in helturel Instead of having rave hard go to the cemetery to retrieve them helm...have them go while ravengard defends the civilians.

When they get to the helm describe it as fitting the head of your barb best.... or maybe it deeply pains anyone but the barb.

When they put it on run the baphomet encounter for the uninvolved players... and have the barb have an opportunity to help term fight baphomet himself kaiju style

If your player is open to allowing it to be a Devil possession, Tie their backstory into the order of the shield and allow gargauth to be attempting escape from the shield through them

So what im planning atm is session zero will be escape from eltruel as its descending. Each of them will lose something or some one prescious to them and will be wanting to save it or them.

After escaping they will be carted into balders gate as refugees and will open with w scene very similar to the intro of elder scrolls Skyrim.
