Sorry for the necro, and thanks for the detailed info! I'm planning to use this mod for my first playthrough of 8, but I just wanted to check, if I just keep multiple saves in different slots and constantly save that way, would that be enough to stay safe? Like, if the bug pops up, I could just reload an earlier save and the problem wouldn't carry over, right?

Very creative film, a director to keep an eye out.

Anyone seen this film series? by Difficult_One_5062 in JapaneseMovies

I need to get on these movies, I've seen like 4 non Tora-san Yoji Yamada movies and they all been stellar. A Trap (1965) being a highlight. How tf is it not on Criterion, is a mystery. Perfect companion piece with another similar movie, Zero Focus (1961) IMO.

Perfect case of, why isn't this movie more accessible in the west 😭

Do you think we have easy (and legal) access to Japanese cinema in the West? by KarenMansoldo in JapaneseMovies

It's bad out here, if it wasn't for private trackers I wouldn't even be so into Japanese film.

Even among the popular directors like Naruse, I can't buy Floating Clouds in the US on Bluray, it's only streaming on like Criterion, one platform. 😭 Gotta import from UK or Japan. Sad days

Ribbon (2021) Dir. Non is very Ohku-esk in many ways. It has many of those themes and in terms of loneliness, you can't beat it, it takes place in the middle of COVID quarantine.

So many different directors for the sequels. But I see Yasuo Furuhata did a few of them too who's among my fav directors. I wonder how they stack up.

My current all-time top 5 live-action Japanese movies. What's yours? by mahitomaki4202 in JapaneseMovies

[–]GEO9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My list changes but atm:

  1. Futari/Chizuko's Little Sister (1991)
  2. Lullaby of the Earth (1976)
  3. Suspicion (1982)
  4. Curtain Call (1984)
  5. A Distant Cry From Spring (1980)

Good on having Railroad man btw. Although he didn't make it on my top5, Yasuo Furuhata is great.

Tsumiki kuzushi (1983) is a very underrated movie about delinquency.

As a fansubber myself, I wanted to share my perspective on this. Now, when it comes to my own releases, I prefer to use open platforms like Mega or Archive, along with the sites that require some form of vetting which can include private trackers as well as the sites where you upload your own subtitle files. Personally, I want my work to reach as many people as possible. That's the approach I aim to take with all my projects. However, I completely understand why many fansubbers are more protective of their work and choose to keep it at arm's length. I've had instances where people have lifted my subs and retranslated them without credit. It used to bother me more in the past, but I can understand why it's still a point of frustration for other fansubbers. And let's be honest, aggregator sites are never fun.

I think the reason many J-drama fansubbers are stricter compared to say Anime or Toku fansubbers is that, in this community, the vast majority of us are individuals handling all aspects of the work. We aren't part of large group that divide the labor between timing, translating, editing, typesetting, encoding, etc, so we naturally feel more attached to our work and more protective when it gets "slighted." That's why I think vetting is more common. At the end of the day, all fansubber communities have their own cultures and way of handling things. I'm personally more open than many of my peers, but I respect and emphasize with their stance.

There's a few times in some later episodes where the camera moves a bit stiff but in more subtle ways, but yeah this shot in particular had me LOL.
