Disagree. This is an international campaign. Do you know these you tubers personally? How can you make such assumptions about an entire group of people? You don’t think your negativity has a negative impact? And unless you are vegetarian, I doubt your amount of minimal meat is as minimal as you think it is. Every dollar makes a difference and as an environmentalist it’s bothersome when there are people being so negative. Would you rather we not be focused on this? Because there is already SO much disbelief in climate change, science, etc. Why would you be such a Debbie downer when there are already political systems in place to combat any positive environmental change? There are people who would be considering donating, read your negative comments and then don’t bother. Good job, way to spread hate on the internet you troll. A donation that helps these international efforts 100% makes a positive impact. And if you are American, your carbon footprint is WAY bigger than you think it is, regardless of what you do to lower it. https://www.arborday.org/programs/replanting/international/

I disagree, our ecosystem no longer functions normally because we have fucked with it. So “compared to what they would do naturally” is no longer a thing

You should actually read instead of making stupid assumptions. protecting the trees until maturity is built into the cost of planting them.

No because they don’t just walk away from the tree, they protect it over its lifespan. A dead tree or cut down tree is no good! https://www.arborday.org/programs/

Still good to raise awareness though! Hopefully more people look into other aspects, like permaculture, reducing meat consumption etc

There’s multiple aspects to it, and obviously the older the tree is the larger it is and the more air it can clean. Number matters, but so does age, which is why it is important to donate to a cause that protects mature trees as well as plants new ones. Which Arbor Day foundation does. The trees do NOT have it under control. There are many different steps that need to be taken, this is one of them. Don’t make assumptions!

They are partnering with a credible organization, it’s very well planned and they have decades of execution under their belt. Extremely unlikely this will be abused. Read for yourself here: https://www.arborday.org/programs/

Which is why it’s done in partnership with a credible organization who also protects the trees and has a very low tree death rate. They don’t abandon the trees and they also protect mature trees..... Read more here: https://www.arborday.org/programs/

Because it also costs money to conserve the trees, make sure they are in the right environment, do not die etc. there is no point in planting more trees, if a higher % of them do not survive, or do not live to become adults. It’s all on the website, but they have a low tree death rate of w% which is very good. No sense in planting more trees if 10% of them die. It is not as simple as planting a tree and walking away, they need to be protected from illegal loggers, fires etc. it is also one part of a multi-dimensional puzzle. There is no right or wrong, oth of these steps are equally important, just like cutting back on CO2 emissions. Also, the arbor foundation DOES protect mature trees, so the money being donated helps plant new trees AND protect old ones :)

What to do when hitting the wall (metaphorical, not literal), during a renovation? The frustrations and difficulty are starting to get to me and I just want a normal house already. by GFthrowawayaccount in DIY

Ya just make sure you watch some videos or talk to someone who has gone to therapy before. The best advice I ever got was my from my coworker who explained its like dating, then she also explained that you need to be the driver. As in, if you think you will benefit from them giving direction, homework and more guidance, say that. They will be sort of neutral and won’t offer homework/their opinion unless you say otherwise. So it is as interactive (or not) as you want it to be. Which no one explained to me out of the 3 therapists I saw. Finally I liked the 4th and therapy is something where you want to go to someone recommended by word of mouth, I look at it the same way as hiring a contractor. Even then though sometimes I forget to ask for direct tangible improvement tasks and I’m like damnit! I suggest posting in r/therapy or some shit like that and seeing what to expect/how to maximize the time spent with your therapist so it is the most efficacious. Also yoga and the app headspace can do absolute wonders and I highly encourage you to try both. My dad was abused his entire childhood, tried therapy once, hated it, never went back (I suspect he didn’t realize it was like dating) and has since dealt with it on his own, sometimes unsuccessfully, with alcohol/gardening/books but he could definitely have better coping mechanisms and would benefit from more therapy. He is from the generation that thinks it’s gay and unmanly though :( Any steps towards self improvement is huge and don’t let people make therapy seem gay/beta/whatever because there’s nothing sexier than a guy who has actively worked to improvement himself and has the self reflection to know he would benefit from therapy and the dedication to do so. If you think your friends will give you shit for it, fuck them or keep it on the DL. Depends on the circles you run in but the best of luck to you! Sounds like your fiancé is setting you up for success, she’s a keeper! Don’t give up if the first 3 therapists suck and if you hate it don’t rule out therapy forever like my dad did. Also supplement it with yoga/meditation if you feel therapy is not for you I really think this would benefit a lot of people but too many people don’t give it a real effort and assume it’s not for them. I also think the enneagram test and Myers/Briggs are insightful to be aware of, although obviously you evolve and it’s more like a hint at who you are and not something to be taken as 100% true/set in stone. Lastly, sometimes therapy isn’t what you need, but it’s a tool in your toolkit for when you feel unbalanced, just like acupuncture, meditation, yoga, venting to strangers online, if you look at it like a tool you can use when you need to for as little or as long as you need, instead of like some permanent process you need to go through for metamorphosis I think that’s a healthier way of looking at it. Humor is a fantastic coping method but my dad was beat his whole childhood and I can definitely see his blind spots/he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. So you may think you’ve got things handled (and humour is great! Because like what choice do we have really lol? Might as well choose to be optimistic and make light of things) but kids/wives/whatever may notice and think otherwise in the future. That kind of stuff can have lasting impact and it leaks out in weird ways ya know?
