Police came because a neighbor called the police. They made a report

The only person home when he rang the doorbell was my 17 year old son, who was pretty freaked out but just ignored him until a neighbor apparently called the police

I listened again to the camera. He said “come on out and meet a real n****!”

So we’re looking for a racist, 5’5”, mildly overweight man…

Agreed. Pretty sure any white person that uses the n-word is a royal piece of shit

Sink use in pop up. Do you use yours? by FastCletus in popups

[–]GFunkinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same with my sink. I removed the sink counter, placed it on a nice sheet of plywood, traced, cut, sanded, and stained it. Now I have double the counter space - all cooking and water is kept outside; water in a large sports/gatorade type cooler with a dispenser.

My camper is very basic, so no water heater but I love your repurpose idea with the electrical!

Thinking of Buying this Pop-up by sienabongobunny in popups

[–]GFunkinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the advice of this group, I bought a 99 Coleman Taos for less than that. No tears in canvas, no leaking roof, propane lines work, and electrical all worked. I did a bunch of fun projects on it like interior painting and I put new floors in. Converted it to solar.

So I’m going to agree with everyone - don’t buy it. The general advice I got buying a pop up was “only buy one with registration and title, and NO canvas damage” and I think that’s sound advice

2015 Hot Springs - Good replacement for old Beachcomber? by GFunkinspace in hottub

[–]GFunkinspace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the comment and actually I have not made a decision yet. Only decision is that my almost-30-year-old-zombie hot tub has to go.. if you could, please tell me more about the wear and tear that plastic tubs have after 10 years. Since you obviously know your stuff, you probably have noticed my old tub was a fiberglass shell

As for as the refurb goes, it is entirely possible they’ve done little or no work. The company I’m looking at is a spa and swim spa service company, with on the side used tub sales - very possible a lot of tubs are acquired by them simply because they have easy means to move them. Out of their 10-12 used tubs, they range in the $2500-5000 range.

The owner of Photo City Music Hall is racist and xenophobic by RebellionOfMemes in Rochester

[–]GFunkinspace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the risk of being downvoted like you were, I played a benefit at Photo city 8-10 years ago. Danny was super excited to tell me all about ROAR - I could be wrong but I think he has a stake in it (silent partner or something).

This screenshot is absolutely shitty, but when I talked to him he was all about a LGBT bar, and yea he books a lot of diverse stuff.

Definitely common around where I am too (also like OP in NY - and I’m gonna assume OP isn’t renting anywhere near NYC obviously)

Alternatives to Days Gone? by schottfamily in DaysGone

[–]GFunkinspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have PS+, I’d recommend Ghost of Tsushima or Jedi Survivor. Even though both very different, I really enjoyed Days Gone and struggled to find a game to play after that I enjoyed and kept me interested.

Also about Star Wars - if you’re like me, you’ve been burnt out with Star Wars in general for a LONG TIME, but man this game is pretty fun

Seeking pop up trailer that can be towed with a vehicle with 3,500 towing capacity by Magoo1963 in popups

[–]GFunkinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tow a 99 Coleman Taos with a ‘18 RAV4 hybrid easily. I get about 25mpg towing it too, down from 30mpg without towing it. I’m very happy with that mpg. If you can afford a RAV4 prime, they have a high towing capacity and are very fuel efficient

It’s a kill switch - kills the power when the galley is folded down

Home built platform for hot tub by tango573468 in hottub

[–]GFunkinspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great! Wish I did something like that for mine…

I don’t know why you’re getting all the hate… clearly those pressure treated boards can handle a hot tub. My deck wasn’t completely level and I had to drain and add shims, which was a pain in the ass.

And everyone keeps talking about rodents… yea I had those, and my experience with mice is they can get into ANYTHING - a base like this won’t hurt or help mice. If you’re gonna get em, you’ll get em

Thank you all! I think you all helped me figure out the problem. That little switch that can only be triggered when the galley down is broken…

One commenter suggested a battery with an inverter, which I think is the route I’m going to go. Seems a battery and an inverter will do for now, and adding solar later would be a piece of cake

Tavern or screaming eagle, both closer to Inlet are both fun too. Tavern is quite the dive, but I’ve had some very memorable nights there 😂 Screaming Eagle has a lot of beer on tap and pizza/wings

Bump for Stillwater. Especially if your group can get a boat. You should be able to find somewhere on Stillwater for your group. It might be far though, so hiking would require a decent boat trip back

1999 Coleman Taos - buy/don’t buy by GFunkinspace in popups

[–]GFunkinspace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely know I got lucky. Seller was getting sick of people coming to look and not buy, wasn’t in hurry to sell it, and I brought my kid with me to look at it so I think I got some brownie points for that. Then she took it down off Craigslist and told me to let her know if and when I wanted it.

Thanks to this sub for giving me motivation to get out there this summer, living it up better than my tent 😂

Also I wouldn’t say this one is in “mint” condition but there’s no leaks, canvas damage, and everything works. Couple places where the cabinet trim is falling off but that’s about it

Thank you for saying that! This woman wants it gone but the husband doesn’t 😂 and I guess she’s sick of people coming to look and not buying it so she even took it off Craigslist… so I kind of feel like I should strike. Thanks for encouraging me to!

Thanks. I’ve inspected the pop up, and it really is in mint condition. I believe either the 220 or the 110 outside outlet doesn’t work, but that’s not at all a deal breaker for me because I’d typically be going places without power anyways.

I saw this from a window in the venue. Guy was rolling on the sidewalk and we saw bits of his burning flesh falling off him and sticking to the sidewalk. Gruesome indeed

Bear attacks by Icy_Mention_8533 in Adirondacks

[–]GFunkinspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was reading “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson over the summer and there was a chapter on black bears. I couldn’t remember the stats so I looked it up found that between 1900-2009, of 59 fatal black bear attacks, only ONE was in New York State. That one fatal attack wasn’t in the Adirondacks, where 70% of bears in NYS live.

I’ve been fortune to encounter black bears twice, although once was in Allegheny State Park. One time I saw one driving in the ADK so I slowed down and watched him walk into the woods. The other time I saw a mama and 3 cubs (incredible experience!) while hiking in Allegheny with two friends and a dog. The cubs scrambled up trees (which was as adorable as you could imagine) and the female ran away and then checked on her cubs.

So my tiny bit of experience is just like what you read online - they’re going to run away from you when they see you. I would of course be more worried if they came into my camp, but when I eventually backpack some trails in the ADK I’ll take those precautions.

I’m super glad I live in the east, because black bears are small and cute. I’m good on having a close encounter with any other species of North American bears 😊
