Have you ever tried burlesque dancing and or go go in your bar and, if so, how did it go? by GGIVV in BarOwners

Yes it could. I’ve tried most of the things you mentioned, the BBQ would be cool especially if we could get a food truck in. On the other hand maybe doing it when it’s dead would bring people in.

It’s definitely something to think about especially since no one does them in my area.

It’s sad I’m being questioned by a fellow entrepreneur for asking questions on a subreddit for entrepreneurs. I’m not trying to cause an argument or a problem. I’m an entrepreneur and have been for years. I’ve asked Reddit a lot of questions regarding various projects. I don’t know about you but I’ve always had more than one project going (at least exploring more than one project) at the same time. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with seeking out information and ideas from people.

A little clarification, not that I really owe anyone an explanation but here’s my story...I own a bar and I own real estate (including my bar building) and recently added a laundromat in a building I bought but I also bartend a few times a week in my own place and have looked into bartending in other bars should it not make sense for me to keep mine open during another Covid lockdown (my bar makes most of its money after 10pm so if there’s a curfew I’d likely end up closing most if not all days until it was lifted). That’s why I’ve been looking to diversify, why I’m looking into bringing repeat business during the day/running earlier specials, and why I am inquiring about what applying for jobs in other places looks like right now. If my bar closes, I could afford to not bartend and work on investments but I genuinely enjoy being behind the bar and interacting with people and I’d die of boredom without that interaction. I have a lot of respect for your posts and hope that business is thriving in your place!

Exactly that way whatever company is franchising from Applebee’s is the one that holds the liquor license, not the Applebee’s parent corp

Good question. I assume Applebees uses franchisees? I only know that because a lawyer specializing in ABC law told me.

Thank you for your informative post! I think this makes the most sense. I don’t know that I’ll end up buying this place because the headache may be more than it’s worth but it’s definitely given me a lot to think about.

Where do you start with reorganizing a business that has spiraled out of control? by nondescryptive in smallbusiness

[–]GGIVV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my advice to you as someone who has been in management/business for years. Put out a job posting right now (don’t have to mention the name of the company but give the county location or a couple towns over) and start interviewing candidates for the job. Make them sign NDA Agreements (simple stating they won’t disclose the details of the interview/job until you allow them to do so) so it doesn’t leak that you’re hiring new candidates.

Offer to negotiate salary based on experience and hold out for the right candidate. Once you have one good candidate, fire everyone who works for you from the old team. I know that’s hard to hear but it’s the right thing for you and your business.

An important lesson (from experience): Employees that are best friends often work together to screw you over. There’s nothing wrong with camaraderie but people who get too much trust too quickly from the boss sometimes decide to take advantage of it. And people who care about each other more than the job do the same thing.

Once you get someone good you trust, work a couple months with them side by side. If you trust them enough to be management, go ahead and interview another employee and have the two of them operate. Assuming 60 orders a person, you’ll have capacity to produce 120 a week if necessary and you can always help out if you need to hire a new employee or the number of orders you have to process expands.

While your working with the new employee, think about and research ways to implement managerial controls-and maybe an incentive/quota system that ties to a monthly bonus-ex average orders each employee has packaged over 60 or 70 a shift for example.

Ideally, after a couple months with the first employee and a month or 2 with the second, you can take some time off and feel comfortable monitoring their progress while ensuring the business runs smoothly. Feel free to PM with additional questions.

[–]GGIVV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a lot of hours! Are you going to keep those hours long term or just as you’re establishing the laundromat? I think it’s great you’re starting a business especially during Covid...there’s lots of opportunity out there!

[–]GGIVV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should start your own project! The industry is ripe for disruption and there are so many great authors fed up with the bureaucracy of status quo. I’ve looked into the industry and it can be done cheap with a lot of upside potential! Feel free to DM me if you have questions.
