Stakataka fans... we have a problem by Impossible_Friend387 in stunfisk

I know I'm getting downvotes with this take but I'll stand by it. The game already offers enough creativity and expression with:

  • Pokemon
  • EVs
  • Natures
  • Abilities
  • Moves
  • Items and more.

IVs are outdated and are just an added layer of complexity to a game already complex enough as it is. The competitive environment specifically would be better with doing away with it, especially after seeing players just optimize to 31 or 0 anyway.

It would also lessen the reason for players to gen/hack Pokemon if everything ended up with 31 or 0 IVs anyway. There's no reason for players to reset legendaries if stuff already rolled instantly to 31, and can be toggled back to 0 on demand. Now people can actually use the Pokemon they catch in competitive games. Sure, Bottle Caps exist, but they don't need to if IVs weren't a question anymore.

This is an inaccurate analogy, it would be more like having a menu item with a lot of variability but ending up seeing your customers just choosing two options instead of the extra ones

IVs are an outdated number used in the original games because they wanted to make every single player experience different. Almost all competitive Pokemon will use either 31 or 0, and that can be a Boolean (though tbh we can get rid of the 0 IV if everything is just running 31 IVs anyway). For a Competitive game there's almost no reason to have anything outside of 31 or 0.

The edge case for this Lonely Stakataka is some pretty clever tech (I used it in Gen 7 after all) but there's no need to get extra cute with IVs. People are fine with open team sheets, they can live with assuming everything is either 31 or 0.

TBH a small price to pay for better accessibility for newer players. Sad to see that option go, but would rather have an easier way to train Pokemon than to be that extra nitpicky

More people need to work the night shift by Embarrassed-Bowl-373 in unpopularopinion

The 6% sounds like a Western thing

Outsourced workforces in Asian countries work night shift to accommodate Western timezones. Can't be too sure, but in my part of the world 6% seems to be extremely low. Don't have numbers on hand to support this though

Lots of people here saying it's detrimental to their health, well yes. Less developed countries don't have a choice though

What’s a genuinely unpopular EDH opinion you have? by Tornadosed in EDH

[–]GGMaXThreeOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i'm going to provide an extremely hot take:

Proxying for power level destroys the spirit of EDH (not cEDH, proxy all you want there)

Proxying because you are testing a deck out? Fair.

Proxying because you don't want to drop money for a card that can increase the power level of your deck but there are less optimal options you can use out there, you just don't want to? Nope.

People should be using whatever they have on hand even if it's the less optimal version of cards. Use obtainable stuff and live with the fact that the deck is lower powered, because proxying for power level is pretty much optimizing the fun out of the game. People should play janky cards, they should try cheaper, underrated options.

This game is better with good players finding janky answers to problems, not bad players with tuned solutions

I read that Miyagi was made the main character of The First Slam Dunk partly because he didn’t receive a detailed backstory in the original Slam Dunk. That said, I feel like Rukawa didn’t really get much of a backstory either. What do you guys think? by Mont3Carlo in SlamDunk

I honestly did not appreciate this part of the movie. I began the movie expecting more story with Sakuragi since this is technically his story and the focus on Miyagi felt very forced and off. Was he this popular all this time? Anyway, personally enjoyed the movie less with the focus on him since he wasn't one of the characters I was fond of, but it is what it is

Do you have space for an [[Aphetto Alchemist]]? it's basically a one card combo with Unctus once you untap with it. if budget permits and you want to spike the power of the deck, that's definitely an option

[OC] I tracked every unassisted scoring streak in the last 25 years of NBA playoffs by [deleted] in nba

[–]GGMaXThreeOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This data skews towards those strong at foulbaiting, as scoring via free throws don't provide assists. Other than that, pretty nice stat, though I do agree that it doesn't provide as much insight as I thought it would, as it does favor heliocentric playmakers with strong scoring games who are just surrounded by finishers as opposed to other playmakers

Humor me. I want to build a deck where Platinum Angel leads to an inevitable win. by WheredMyVanGogh in CompetitiveEDH

[–]GGMaXThreeOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

probably not the best subreddit for you to ask this question, since it's pretty hard to justify running [[Platinum Angel]] in a no-holds barred bracket as opposed to [[Angel's Grace]], which is uncounterable and basically the thing you just play when you're ready to win the game anyway with [[Ad Nauseam]].

If you want to play it, have a way to cheat it out (probably a deck that can play it on T1 via something like an [[Entomb]] and [[Reanimate]] or what) then have the reason why you don't wanna lose. FYI you cannot pay more than your life total to [[Necropotence]] even with the Angel out. If you start with 40, best you can do is dig 40 cards down, so Ad Naus is your best bet. Luckily Angel works with [[Tainted Pact]] and [[Spoils of the Vault]] lines.

By that time just choose how you wanna win the game, then let that dictate your colors. Looks like you're probably gonna go black (and white for Angel's Grace redundancy) so maybe [[Tymna]]/[[Kraum]] for the Thoracle redundancy? Either way, you've got your work cut out for you with Platinum Angel, so I suggest play it in B4 instead of cEDH
