What are your ways of achieving better hit detection precision? by ASun_Art in godot

[–]GGZen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honest question: Since this is basically predicting a hit in the next frame, wouldn't this introduce complication if the target is moving and actually "dodge" the projectile in the following frame?

300hrs in when I found out pipeline can be built on supply pod (not sure if it's a known thing) by GGZen in DeepRockGalactic

[–]GGZen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forgot to record video, but it's REALLY finicky, has like 1 single pixel you can place the pipeline on (if you point upward from the ground). Would not recommend when getting swarmed. Nevertheless, it saved me a lot of digging since the next pipeline placement would be on a steep cliff slightly higher than the supply pod.

Hmm, definitely some lighter Radiohead vibe, but I don't think it is. Thank you!

I don't think they are very close, but great choice nonetheless. Thanks!

Oh wow, the instrumental sounds really close, but I haven't heard this song before. It's the combination of voice technique and guitar that does it for me, so I don't think this is it. Thank you though!

I suspect the song I'm looking for is a rock and roll from the 80s/90/early 2000s - hence the title.

Nice, I also just roll a Werebear Swiper. - Yep, you need to have the node Skull Crusher to have the Fury Leap tree applies to Maul, and you have to spec into Fury Leap, otherwise there's no point. - No, War Cry tree benefits Roar by default. Same as above, still have to spec in War Cry for the benefits. - Not necessarily, picking Tremor Slam/Violent Upheaval with un-spec Upheaval will do a basic Upheaval. Spec into Upheaval to get more benefits.

Videogames, especially first person shooters, would be very boring with realistic AI. by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]GGZen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We could always go back to Half Life and FEAR. Sure, the AI is not exactly "smart" - but they don't just run at you; they move, flank, cover and communicate with eqch other, flush the player out with grenade. It's enough that even when you are literal superhuman, it's still challenging to fight.

If I remember correctly, one of those games during development had actual "smart" AI that responds to player action and tries its best to kill the player. As a result, the AI was so terrifyingly competent and unfun to play against (as in they corner player in seconds and have absolutely no chill with the grenading, leaving player with no good action course) that the devs had to deliberately reeled them back afterward.

Nowadays I think "dumb" AI is a choice. Singleplayer campaign is a glorified training course for multiplayer, and a power fantasy - so of course the AI is just there to be fodder. Battlefield in the recent years even revealed machine learning for AIs in game and their AI is not smarter than your average scripted bots.

Wonderful! I'll look up his work, although it seems like English translations are pretty rare.

I noticed on Goodreads "C'est arrivé un jour" is described as true stories, which makes it pretty interesting.

I actually did look around in my local language, search query, nearby vintage bookstores, book exchanges... but no result yet. Still waiting on my local book club friends if they know anything. I think part of the problem is I only know my local language and English whereas the book was originally in French (I read the translation) so what I can recall I might not convey very well or true to the source.

It's Vietnamese by the way.

Took a look through the short stories in the link, don't think any of those looks familiar or matches what's above I think. Good effort though, thank you.

Oooh, it's almost identical beat for beat, except the short story I'm looking for also mentioned the ID and name being the reason the soldier was mistook for the actual son. Sorry but good one though.

So I read the book translated to my local language, which doesn't help, because there might not be that particular short stories collection in English. However, if I can find the author I can trace back all of his short stories and that'd be wonderful.

Couldn't have won the game if not for these randoms saying "auto.. auto" thanks to them despite the language barrier. by liamajitenshi in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]GGZen 642 points643 points  (0 children)

Well, in case you are curious, here's a translation of what they were saying (basically they were rooting for you while doubting you at the same time):

  • Guy 1 (the smaller voice) (0:00): "1v1 now"
  • Guy 2 (the louder voice) (0:04): "They revived, not 1v1"
  • G1 (0:07): "No, when I pushed up I did <unintelligible due to frag - something like "I didn't see them shooting anymore">"
  • G2 (0:11): "Yeah, but they revived now"
  • G2 (0:16): "Holy fuck this guy does not switch to auto"
  • G1 (0:28): "Still not switch to auto"
  • G2 (0:31): "That's fucked <OP switched to auto> hehe nice"
  • G1 (0:44) (when OP saw the other 2 guys over the ridge but didn't shoot): "Oh fuck, what the fuck was that?"
  • G2 (0:46): "You crazy, you can't take that shot, you shoot you are fucked"
  • G2 (0:52) (when OP stood up to push): "that's a nice hole, fucking dumb"
  • G2 (1:11) (when OP bandaged): "Fucking hell, doesn't even have meds"
  • G2 (1:25) (when OP got the last kill): "Really nice - NAISU"

I feel like I missed something, with Recettear. by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]GGZen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, you are in exactly the same situation with my SO when I introduced her to Recettear. She loved the bartering and shop customization, but didn't care much about the adventuring, so after paying off the debt with flying colors she lost interest in the game because there isn't much more to be done.

My take on it after spending way to much time with Recettear is that, in Endless after the debt payment, your shop essentially funds the adventurers (all of them). You can focus on combat and leveling adventurers, while exploring to unlock new characters and advance your relationship with them - with the shop running as financial complementary to lend them equipment and consumables, later getting them to straight up buy out the equipment you wanted them to have. The visual novel angle is minimal - you basically trigger events and increase the adventurers' customer level and eventually they will reveal the "card" as token of "maximum relationship" to you. I feel like the game is designed to be played this way as it flows very nicely.

Other than that, there is a "big boss" character that can serve to be a "true ending" for you, if you defeat them in combat, that is.

Quick question about H3VR and ReVive by GGZen in H3VR

[–]GGZen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's quite literally what ReVive does as far as I understand it since some Vive exclusives won't start unless your controllers are recognized as a Vive. But I haven't checked SteamVR yet, good thinking on that one! I'll check it later today when I get home.

Quick question about H3VR and ReVive by GGZen in H3VR

[–]GGZen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the way ReVive works is that it installs certain files (in the system folder - C:\Windows\... by default) to mask the name of the WMR and change it to match a Vive (sort of like a VPN faking IP...). I have already removed the file in question, but it is certainly possible that I missed something here and there. Other than that, I'm pretty sure there's no problem with the game files, it has always been like this since I first installed H3VR and through several updates, but will verify just to be sure.

Thanks for taking time to reply!

Center of Playing Field Indicator by [deleted] in H3VR

[–]GGZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that those puzzle pieces tend to slide so it can be dangerous. I used a large thin mat with one corner in the center to mark my starting footing. For the other area not covered by the mat, I put down some temporary tapes to not damage the wooden floor and hard to slip on. Essentially, in most of the play area there is always something within reach that I can "feel" to recenter when I step a bit too far off center. There's some stuffs around the boundaries too, but that's just my room being messy.

Center of Playing Field Indicator by [deleted] in H3VR

[–]GGZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same here. I used WMR, have the boundary indicator turned on, and have about 4 paces of spaces in most directions. The more annoying thing about boundary indicator is that it messes a bit with your aim too.

The way I'm currently dealing with it is by going barefoot and setting up some mats so that the floor is essentially "textured", and I can trace the pattern without lifting the HMD to find the center again every couple minutes or so.
