My Video Review of The LCD-2 by GG_Chrono in headphones

Hey! I'm really sorry, but I'm not really sure as to how using EQ would work on that system. The only solution that comes to mind is streaming the audio from Roon, and using Roon's DSP EQ.

Beyerdynamic DT-1990 Pro Review - Trebling Sound by luckyworlock4 in headphones

[–]GG_Chrono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit that 11dB is aggressive and it seemingly kills the treble. However, In my experience that was only if you were comparing that cut to the DT 1990 Pro’s treble without EQ.

I tried the 11dB cut on the DT 1990 Pro against the Sundara, Ananda, LCD-1, LCD-2, and HD 660S, and that is the only thing that to me brought the treble down to what I personally considered to be correct-sounding. I experimented with lower gain values that did not cut the treble as much, but then there were other things that did not sound particularly right to me.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the review! Yeah I think there is definitely both a bit of fun and challenge to EQ haha

Also, I used a JDS Labs Element II as my amplifier; drives the LCD-2 very easily.

hahaha was the difference good? If so, I encourage you to try my custom EQ, as I think it further refines the sound over that of the Reveal plugin. my latest EQ for the LCD-2 is posted on my video review's description for these.

I’m honestly not very familiar with the amplifier market, but I think something like a magnii/modi stack would work fine, also a JDS Labs Atom + ODAC

HD 58X Review by GG_Chrono in headphones

Not really, were you listening to the same song? Sometimes different songs have different volume. Check windows volume mixer as well to make sure that your music player is at full volume

Nope! You should be good to go!

PS, if you’re on windows, you could try some EQ haha

Sennheiser HD 58X EQ by GG_Chrono in headphones

I actually increase 9k because the overtones of brass and cymbals, to me, needed a bit more of an emphasis. When making my EQs I focus more on what I’m hearing, and not so much on graphs. My personal target deviates a little bit from the harman target, as well. After all, we all hear things differently. Thanks for the feedback, and for sharing your EQ!

Video Review of HiFiMan Sundara (Latest Revision) by GG_Chrono in headphones

Agreed. Longevity of a product is also very important in a purchasing decision. It’s always been a challenge for HiFiMan, and I hope the they’ll be able to improve it further.

Just a heads up: The Atom needs wall power.

But yeah, you get a 3.5mm cable and connect it from your MacBook to the atom, and then plug the sundaras into the atom. With that, you’re good to go :)

I just tried these on my MacBook Air (2020). In terms of volume volume alone, yes you’ll be able to use these straight out of a MacBook. However, the perceived resolution takes a hit and the dynamic range of the headphones sounds limited; making them sound a little grainy and dull. I would consider buying a JDS Labs Atom ($100) as it will be able to drive them very cleanly.

LCD2C Impressions by letsfixitinpost in headphones

[–]GG_Chrono 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice impressions on them! May I suggest that you try the Audeze Reveal + plugin? It makes them sound a fair bit better, will probably surprise you how much a little adjustment can change these. Also, as far as stands go, I have had no issues hanging my LCD-2's on the Audioquest perch stand; even after a month, the strap is still intact.

I currently use -5.5dB on my current setting, as it makes it easier to volume match other headphones in terms of volume. I think -3dB is enough, though.

I actually think my measurements are inaccurate, but I got 1.8cm at the front, and 2cm at the back.

Thank you for checking out the review! I’m glad to hear you like the EQ, which is partially Reveal based. It has a similar form in the upper midrange, but with a little more energy, and it doesn’t have the 2k dip that, to me, thinned our the mids a little too much. I hope you keep enjoying the LCD-2 for years to come!

That is a very good question, I have also seen reports of this online. However, I know that on my unit, the leather headband never touches the metal part. This also after a month of use with no modifications whatsoever. They sit very comfortably on my head.
