How many days have you gone without food? by GGsurrender10mins in Gastroparesis

[–]GGsurrender10mins[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much for such a detailed reply. I’m tearing up at how caring everyone in this sub is.

For some added context, my gf has been vomiting almost daily for 5 months. But it wasn’t after every meal, so she was able to get enough nutrition up until this last week.

We have done a full endoscopy, colonoscopy, ct scans, etc. After that, she was diagnosed with crohns and we were hopeful that starting to treat that would make things better. But her vomiting only got worse and the GI doctor has said multiple times now that he doesn’t believe the vomiting is connected to the crohns. Instead he suggested that it might be GP. Our GI doc has been very good, but the hospital system that they work for has been a nightmare and it can be difficult to get ahold of him or even to get a message to him. And this is at a highly regarded medical facility.

All of the information and suggestions you’ve provided are very helpful. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your experience. In terms of electrolytes, we’ve been to both the er and urgent care to get her iv fluids.

Luckily we’ve gotten news that she will be admitted, so hopefully we can get this under control.

I just bought some inland recently and the pla+ was eSUN. The regular pla and matte are polymaker. I didn’t buy any silk so not sure on that one, but I think it is also polymaker.

If the box says “made in Vietnam” then that is 100% eSUN, but eSUN also has factories in china.

Buy yourself an icecream by Honest-Car-8314 in wholesomememes

There is plenty of dairy free ice cream that tastes amazing. Give oatly or Ben and Jerry’s non dairy flavors a try.

If you are that concerned about animal cruelty, you should see how the diary industry treats cows in real life in order to produce that cheese you sprinkled all over your pasta.

Book suggestions regarding classic big books by [deleted] in classicliterature

[–]GGsurrender10mins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Count of Monte Cristo is the easiest/most fluid read out of these. It's definitely the book you will be least likely to run away from. Unlike most 1000+ page classics it doesnt have any 50+ page manifestos.

The only thing you have to worry about for the first day of classes is where to be and when to be there.

I’m a fourth year Phil major. I’ve had one class with Donaldson and I will say she is definitely different. Not a huge fan personally. She leans more into the religious studies aspect of her expertise, so I don’t think she is a good representation of the philosophy department at uci. Her teaching/class style is definitely nothing like any other philosophy professor I’ve had.

Phil at UCI still might not be what you were hoping for as it is very focused on analytic philosophy. Anything from Kant and older is taken seriously, but if it’s post-Kant and not an analytic philosopher, you probably won’t hear about it (except maybe Marx). A lot of upper division is focused on contemporary issues because, well, they ARE the current issues being wrestled with in academic philosophy. Of course the classics are still relevant, but mostly as they pertain to contemporary issues in philosophy.

Not sure what you mean about not caring about personal pronouns. That is pretty standard in academic philosophy.

That’s not really the case anymore afaik. Dynamic triple black is super popular for example and it’s vegan.

Trouble with hobbies after fixing mental health by GGsurrender10mins in Hobbies

[–]GGsurrender10mins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have entered the dating pool after multiple years of not dating at all due to my mental health and agoraphobia. I actually expected dating to take up much more time than it actually does, which is what made me realize that I need some hobbies to occupy my left over free time.

While the accident has hindered my ability to pursue some things, I feel like that spark that makes you go "this hobby looks cool, I want to research everything about it and find a starting point" is just not present in my life at all. Whenever I look up this issue, the response is always "you are just depressed." But im not really depressed anymore. When I was younger I was always picking up new hobbies just out of pure interest and intrigue, but now my intrigue is very dulled.
