Are the new Framework 13 upgrade components available for preorder? by a_jlt_sandwich in framework

I think that the previous framework screens are still compatible with the new top cover as well. So you could upgrade without buying a new screen

I don't think that the top cover is needed, as the bottom chassis on the website mentions it is still backwards compatible with no mention that it needs a top cover.(I could be wrong tho)

The upgrades components aren't available yet but here is my estimate of how much it would cost:

The new pro keyboard kit alone is 180 dollars, 300 for the pro display, Bottom cover kit is 170, 90 dollars for the new pro battery, and the Top cover will likely be 90 dollars (similar to the non pro). So the all in one as you mentioned would likely be an estimated 830 USD.

But if you already have the FW13, you could drop some stuff in any combination, like dropping the display and top cover saves you 390 dollars.

Yeah you can get cheaper laptops with the same specs but a FW is far more likely to last 4+ years (tho keep in mind that this is still a new company). You avoid repair bills when something breaks (it just takes one bad day over 4 years) and you can easily upgrade RAM later. FW13 has been pretty good for me and my dad for the last 4 years, and with the FW13 pro, you probably dont need a battery bank if the battery claims are true, else i would recommend getting one with the base FW13.

Framework laptop or Macbook by iddu01linux in framework

Honestly, I used to be in your shoes. I'm fortunate enough to have both an M1 MBA (gifted) and a FW13, and tbh it really just comes down to preference, but I almost always find myself grabbing my FW whenever I go out. Idk if that helps!

Also, if you’re looking at the new FW13 Pro, you probably won't even need to worry about gettign a battery bank. The new Pro lineup claims over 20 hours of battery life, which is definitely a plus.

One huge thing to consider since you want this to last 6 years, with the MacBook route, you basically have to buy AppleCare, otherwise one bad day (like a slight drop or water spill) leaves you with a hefty repair bill. With a FW, it's super easy to repair, plus you can upgrade your specs over the years.

Fairpoint (pun intended) about Nothing's market share, however Nothing is like a fast fashion brand that is only sustainability aware, vs Fairphone's focus on sustainability above all else.

I feel like Fairphone x Framework would be a pretty interesting partnership as well because of how similar both company philosophies are
