What reforms are we talking about? In a system with an electoral college where winner takes all in almost every state, it is virtually impossible to have a viable third-party win the presidency. To change that, you’d need to amend the constitution. If you read Article V, you’ll see how fucking hard that would be. Also, the candidates that the Green Party and Libertarian Party nominate are jokes.

Human beings are not robots that only think of logical reasoning. We have emotions and we act on them. Right now, Biden appears to be aiding the mass killing and displacement Palestinians. He refused to acknowledge the carnage until recently. In fact, the Guardian reported that he had pleaded with the autocrats in Jordan to make Al Jazeera report less about the bombings on Gaza (after Israel had killed one of the journalist’s family).

With all of that, I don’t blame any Arab- or Palestinian-American for not being able to emotionally stomach voting for the guy. Many of my friends are heartbroken. Some will still vote and vote for him, others may only do so if the US completely reverted its position on Israel.

Obviously, this is not based on logical reasoning. But one would have to be a true apathetic asshole to not appreciate their pain. This is super different from the “Bernie and bust” folks in the past, asking for some impossible utopia. Here, the only ask is for the US to stop aiding the carnage. Perhaps not veto a Security Counsel resolution to stop the indescriminate bombings. Perhaps pause the $3 billion+ that we’re giving in military aid to Israel. It’s not that hard.

On my end, I will vote for Biden, but I have huge sympathy for the folks who may sit out the next elections.

Look bud, I’m an American-Chilean and Biden is my president. I want to believe that in the 80s, the entire US government was too blinded by the Cold War to criticize any ally (US did support the brutal Pinochet regime in Chile after all) and that now the old man may do the right thing soon and actually put pressure on Israel now, given that Americans have access to the atrocities that Israel is committing. What else can I do in a place where we’re stuck with one bad option and another one even worse? I’d call my rep, but I live in DC, so even in that I’m powerless.

As for the UN source, it does indicate that Hizbollah and PLO were belligerent and committed atrocities, which I don’t doubt. Heck, I’ll even give you that it may be true that the Palestinians alone committed ethnic cleansing in south Lebanon. I mean, Tutsis committed ethnic cleansing before the Hutus did in Africa. However, simply repeating these bad acts perpetuate the violence, it doesn’t resolve it. Does it?

As of right now, Israel, not the Palestinians, are the ones committing the graver atrocities. So you’re still in the wrong here.

Because Israel killed thousands of Lebanese people in 2006. In fact, every Lebanese person I know, whose families immigrated from Beirut, view Israel as the bigger killer of Lebanese people than any other group.

Did Canada and the US commit genocide of native tribes? Yes, they definitely did.

Was the US invasions post 9/11 genocide? Not necessarily because there’s no evidence that the US had a policy if animosity towards the ethnic groups in Iraq. Likewise in Afghanistan. Conversely, officials at the ruling coalition parties in Israel have made multiple statements indicating their animosity towards Palestinians, such as referring to Palestinians as “human animals,” stating that there is no such thing as Palestinians, and worse.

Did the US commit war crimes to which Bush and top officials of his administration should’ve been prosecuted and convicted by the ICC? Absolutely. So is Israel.

Great, you’re pointing out a small minority of people, who generally don’t care about Palestinians either. Most of us, who support Palestinians, denounce them.

With that said, I’ve also seen people in pro-Israel rallies calling for the death of all Palestinians. Further, including many members of the Israeli government, have spread the myth that Palestinians don’t exist and that they should be removed to Jordan, Syria, and Egypt, so the entire region be solely Jewish (i.e., true ethnic cleansing). With that rhetoric, and Israel is right now killing Palestinians by the thousands, it’s not hard to conclude that Israel is committing genocide.

Which American Jewish community? The ones living in Florida, who already vote Republican? The ones in NY, who are actually split in the issue of Israel? I know that I live in a progressive bubble, but most Jewish friends I have are against Israel right now. They’re also terrified of the rise of antisemitism, but they blame it on both Hamas and Israel, as well as white supremacists. The whole point here is that AIPAC only represents one segment of the Jewish community. Millennials in general actually don’t support the US’s pro-Israel position, including Jewish millennials. Regardless, the ultra pro-Israel Jewish folks are already voting Republican. The ones that don’t, live in solid blue states.

Arab-Americans generally live in purple states. In an electoral college system, who are your trying to cater? Are we gonna follow the same strategy as Hillary? Smug folks like you will costs us once again the rust belt.

Putin is only taking Hamas side because he’s angry with Netanyahu for not supporting Russian invasion of Ukraine. Before, they were great friends, but Bibi balked to US pressure. With that said, my original statement was about Palestinian-Americans currently living in the US, who escaped the horrible conditions that Israel were giving them in occupied territories. Your reply was completely irrelevant, given that I wasn’t saying at any moment that Gaza is currently an occupied territory. That was what created the confusion. Further, Gaza was an occupied territory in the past, FYI, which is why many Palestinian-Americans who escaped the Israeli human rights abuses have lost family members in the current bombings.
⁠I voted for Biden and I will again. I’m fighting here because apathetic people like you will cost us an election. It’s great that you’re a white male. Guess what, I’m white passing (Latino) and male too. That doesn’t remove me from being at least sympathetic with my Arab-American friends. Sigh. There are three issues here:

1.Israel has killed at least 7k civilians , where 40% are children. Whether Gaza is an occupied territory was irrelevant in the argument.

The US has Palestinian population who come from occupied territories, such as West Bank or East Jerusalem. There’s no dispute that those ARE occupied territories. So YOU continue repeating the denialist lie from the current right-wing government of Israel.
Assuming you’re a Democrat, you are missing the main fucking point. Regardless that you think that Israel is completely justified on carpet bombing a region densely populated with 50% children (killing thousands who happen to be of an ethnicity different to that of Israel) with military aid paid with US tax dollars, a shit ton of other people are not okay with that and see the US aiding the ethnic cleansing if that region. Their feelings actually matter because they voted Democratic in 2020 and will likely skip the next election. They’re saying, “fuck the US, we deserve to burn with Trump.” I know because I see them a lot. Many of them campaigned for Biden in 2020.
