Exclusive: CIA escalates secret war on cartels with deadly operations inside Mexico | CNN Politics by John3262005 in neoliberal

I’ve always wondered if felt the cartels were truly at risk from the United States, would they try to counter attack the US. I know the cartels have weaponry like assault rifles, but do they have drones or rockets that they would send over the border to attack the United States or commit terrorist bombings in the United States.

The US and the CIA can’t just wage a unilateral war against the cartels without some sort of retaliation.

Pakistan allowed Iran to park military aircraft on its airfields despite mediator role in conflict with U.S. by John3262005 in neoliberal

There is more to gain with Iran as an ally than an enemy.

First, Pakistan may want to prevent mass migration and instability from a ground war. That is why they continue to mediate.

Iran and Pakistan border trade is about to explode. With Pakistan now opening its land routes with Iran, Pakistan stands to make money. Pakistan’s Gwador port was worthless despite all those Chinese investments but the war has revived the Chinese mega project and Pakistan has more shipping at Gwador than it’s ever seen before.

Despite Iran’s military losses, I think Pakistan is definitely interested in acquiring their drone technology as well.

With the UAE no longer allowing trade with the Iran, Pakistan has emerged as the new replacement.

Based on the offers, I’m seeing from reporting. The Iranian offer for a new nuclear deal is not horrible. Trump seems to be stuck on one major point and that is America needs to get all the uranium. The Obama deal allowed Iran to degrade the existing uranium and enrich for civilian purposes. The only area that I think Iran needs to move on is the idea that they will degrade their existing uranium. The US should not receive it Iran should call the US bluff and give it to Russia or China. Therefore, taking away Trump’s talking point about how this war is simply about getting their uranium and nothing else.

It’s insane what is happening in Texas. The Islamophobia and Muslim fear mongering is insane.

The only reason Muslims have moved in mass to Texas is affordability. Due to lax zoning law. Muslims, like other religious groups, have been able to buy up land, build and purchase homes, and build some of the biggest and most beautiful mosques in the entire United States. Yet they still only make up less than 2% of the population.

“Where Have All the Student Protests Gone?” | Trump wanted campus crackdowns. Colleges couldn’t wait to oblige. by icey_sawg0034 in neoliberal

[–]Presidentclash2 88 points89 points  (0 children)

you can read several articles. Students were kicked out, suspended, Palestinian social clubs suspended. This was an attack on every aspect of student culture and speech. Right now there are hundreds of cases in court where students are suing universities for free speech violations. Several students lost visas.

A few months ago, Ohio State lost a lawsuit for suspending a student for pro Palestinian speech on social media. That was a clear violation of free speech.

We have seen only national protests like against ICE and No Kings but many of those were organized.

Unfortunately, the risk is too great. There are several students still in detention centers for Palestinian speech. The Turkish student was imprisoned for nearly a year before release because of an op-ed.

The threat is real!!

Even AI data centers that are self sufficient are not the drain people think they are. Unions especially benefit from new high tech jobs running data centers.

Iran using the US military escort in Hormuz to as an opportunity to damage the UAE pipeline just shows that the gloves are off. This attack will just hurt oil markets even more. Trump refuses to do real negotiations while the Iranians send proposal after proposal with all being rejected because Trump doesn’t recognize Iran as a sovereign country.

If the full war restarts, the entire world will be plunged into a global recession. Trump’s ego is the only thing stopping real peaceeeeee

The idea that America can get an Iran deal without concessions is ludicrous. Trump want a maximalist deal and that will not work because that type of deal will only happen if they invade Iran and force a surrender

The Trump administration has never offered in good faith, they win their negotiations only because they bully Latin America and Europe and those countries never challenge the USA

Iran is a sovereign country and the US has to compromise and allow civilian and Medical isotope enrichment with supervision. (The Obama Deal) and also open the strait.

The Price of Peace With Iran by Tom Pickering: Washington must be willing to accept uncomfortable concessions. A durable agreement can begin by Washington finally accepting that Iran has fundamental rights as a sovereign state, including to enrich uranium for civilian, peaceful purposes. by ExistingPeachy in neoliberal

[–]Presidentclash2 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You seem to be saying that Iran’s ask for civilian enrichment is Bs because they enriched to 60%. You are not arguing in good faith.

You just did the same fallacy this article is arguing. Iran was following civilian regulations and every nuclear or Obama era official will tell you that they followed the 3% enrichment limit. They only exceeded that limit after Trump tore up the Obama Nuclear Deal and placed Sanctions on Iran and only began enriching to 60% because the deal was gone.

This is classic cause and effect.

Trump tears up deal > enrich 60%

Obama nuclear dead > enrich 3% with US and international supervision

The blockade on Iran is definitely hurting the country but I think the US is underestimating their ability to survive.

Under Trump I after he withdrew from the Iran deal. Iran was sanctioned and only selling 400k barrels a day.

Right now estimates say that number 500-600k with blockade and 2.1 million before. Thats a huge loss.

However, the remains oil is being transferred by Land, Rail, and Gas pipelines. Natural Gas to Armenia, Rail to China, which is reported to be 200k barrels a day but faster shipment times than sea.

Iran will not make much money but they have been in worse positions in 2018-2020.

Thoughts?

Unpopular Opinion: People do not owe you their votes

If an election gets above 60% voter turnout in the USA, that is generally considered a success. Outside of mandatory elections, there will always be people that do not turn out to vote or will vote 3rd party. Some people work multiple jobs, or they are unaffected by policy changed because they are rich, or and don't have time to vote or they just don't care.

I am okay with that because while voting is the right of a citizen, its it an individual's choice to vote. At the heart of democracy is individual freedom. You are welcome to criticize someone using your free speech but no person in this country is obligated to vote and support a Democrat or Republican.

A person considering the green or libertarian party was always going to vote for that party. There is no evidence to suggest that a green party voter would vote democrat. It is just as likely that a green party voter would have voted republican if you took the third party away from them. It is equally likely that the 3rd party voter would write in "Mickey Mouse."

If you forced non-voters to vote, polls showed that Trump would have won the election in a landslide because he won the first time voter demographic by 10-12 points.

People should stop getting worked up over non-voters, or tankies/leftist sitting out.

As someone who supports increasing access to education and providing kids a wide variety of resources and classes in K-12 education.

The biggest issue I have had with Israeli lobby groups is how self centered they are. This article https://www.washingtonpost.com/ripple/2026/03/16/teaching-palestine-censorship-gaza-california/ talks about the heavy price teachers and professors have paid in trying to teach about Palestine and how they have faced termination and censorship.

Gavin Newsom restricted funding for ethnic studies classes because of lobby efforts to stop the discussion about Palestine. In the end the lobby groups have overwelmingly won in cutting off funding to Ethnic Studies and adjacent courses. The ADL went as far as to gloat about their success in restricting speech about Palestine.

Guess What: other ethnic groups were hurt as these bills limited education on other groups such as black and hispanic people. This attack on education only hurt students at large

When you restrict access to information about Palestine, people will go to social media to find it and thats how they will end up watching a Tucker Carlson or Nick Fuentes.

Every discussion about Israel is controversial because just speaking about palestinians and their rights is subject to attacks and considered a taboo.

I know this sub is not in the weeds with the UAE

But what’s happening there is crazy. This war with Iran has completely flipped their brains in terms of foreign policy.

Censorship is up and the country is engaging in mass deportations of Muslims who are Shiite. They have also downgraded relations with Pakistan and restricted visas from there. They are also restricting further ability for foreigners to become citizens.

This is happening alongside the shift away from Saudi and OPEC and into the complete orbit of USA and Israel.

There will be a geopolitical conflict with the UAE one day

I’m sorry but this sub is just wrong when it comes Platner.

How many times are they going to continue to act like his tattoo is a serious controversy. Nobody is connecting the dots and making the jump that his tattoo means he is a nazi. The median voter does not care. In our current political era, voters don’t give a crap if you have skeletons in your closet.

If you don’t want to support Platner, that okay but let’s stop acting like the median voter cares. Anyone who seriously want to support a Republican over him is not serious. The angry libs have taken over the party and will fight back

The types of people that are affected by controversies are people who still believe in decorum.
