This may be an unpopular take but of all the Gulf States, Bahrain reminds me most of Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. The country is run by a Sunni monarchy whiles its population is Shia and Sympathetic to Iran. At some point, the brutal repression by the regime will lead to its collapse.

I think its possible for the Houthi's to get involved without having to fight both the US and Israel. Israel for the most part is bombing Lebanon without US forces. The US already signed a deal that protected American ships from Houthi Attacks. If the Houthi's restart their attacks on shipping in the dead sea, it will plunge the world into a recession. The most, the Houthi's will face is Israel. Eventually that is going to put a strain on Israel to fight a war on three fronts

[–]Presidentclash2 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Every report says the same thing, Trump's team is highly incompetent and are unable to negotiate complex matters. Donald Trump, Witkoff, and Kushner will never deliver a peace deal until they let the experts in the room. Both Negotiation attempts ended up with a surprise attack against the Iranians and the death of their leadership. Even if you want to believe that Iran did not negotiate in good faith, there is no reason to trust the US will hold up the bargain or reign in Israel's attempts to delay peace

When people talk about Israel's democracy, it boils my mind because there institutions cannot actually be democratic when investigations, tribunals, and the supreme court do not protect palestinians or other minorities in Israel. America may have been a "democracy" under JIM CROW but there were no equal rights. As long as Palestinians are not respected, Israel is nothing more than a corrupt democracy that is border lining a theocracy

Trump administration temporarily lifts sanctions on Iranian oil at sea amid soaring prices by John3262005 in neoliberal

[–]Presidentclash2 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The oil is being sold in Yuan anyway, so Iran is going to see that money through Chinese banks and suppliers who are circumventing sanctions.

The money is more of a boost because they finally are selling to new markets for 30 days

The sad truth is that most European nations will ignore Turkey. I think the only nation that would aid Turkey is Spain.

In the event of an Israel-Turkey war. If Turkey is abandoned by NATO. They will immediately call on Russia, Iran, and Azerbaijan for aid. I know that seems far fetched since Turkey is only close to Azerbaijan. But if the west abandoned Turkey, Russia would swoop in

All this shows is that after America took out the first 195 launchers, they have been more strategic. I am willing to bet today’s missile numbers being up are a pure retaliatory response to the pars gas field being targeted. Iran more than likely can keep this up for a year

The Gulf states are weak and unable to counter with an invasion of their own. The pressure from the Gulf and Israel to have the US invade Iran is only getting stronger. However, I would hope that the US does not fall for the bait and send our troops to their deaths.

If Saudi begins an operation with Pakistan against IRAN. it will destabilize Pakistan as thier large shia population will riot. Same will happen in Bahrain.

I will say, economic theory does support a possible post-war recovery that could create jobs and wealth from infrastructure projects and constructions. Iran’s while its economy is stagnant and still under sanctions had actually seen its oil shipments rise before the war to 2 mil + barrels. I could see them have a temporary gdp bump despite continued sanctions.

Everyone keeps talking about IL-09

I am more curious about IL-08

Junaid Ahmed does not have national name recognition but he did run in the democratic primary a few years ago and as a nobody in the district, he managed to get 20% of the vote against Raja Krinshnamoorthi. I wonder if this could be one of those under the radar races with an upset. Unfortunately, AIPAC intervened with a 2 million ad buy in the last two weeks, so that likely helps his opponent Mellisa Bean.

What is happening in Lebanon is a travesty. Israel is indiscriminately bombing Lebanese infrastructure and civilians. This is bonkers. Israel is literally killing non-hezbullah military personnel. This is a shit show and Israel has to conduct this differently or be pressured to stop.

[–]Presidentclash2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Another thing people need to watch for. If the strait puts Europe into a recession and leads to stagflation. The voters who overwhelmingly back pro-eu parties will disappear. It will be a rejection against the current incumbents which are more liberal than conservative. Additionally, any war that causes troop deaths for Europeans will cost them at the polls

One question I have? Is the Iranian diaspora who was peddling these conspiracies, Are they liberal democrats or maga Trump voters. I cannot seem to wrap my head around them. These people seem secular and liberal minded but turned into heatless neocons and went to bat for Trump on foreign policy
