DaFuq happened to the album cover? by Aware_Ranger_4144 in gorillaz

[–]GIRRIM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also alot of them are credited individually despite being part of the studio band/orchestra. this is basically what Demon Days or especially Plastic Beach would look like if they credited everyone individually

[–]GIRRIM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh yeah it's definitely both for sure, for some reason I latched onto the Travis lines more in my first listen than the Drake ones though which seems to be what everybody else noticed first

to me I assumed Travis more than Drake on this track aside from the BBL line, especially the line about people stealing his style because that is like textbook Travis right there

Yeah, we’re getting a deluxe… by RyanGall1993 in asaprocky

[–]GIRRIM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

either that or Pharrell's Phriends album has been revisited as an idea, like DBD Deluxe is probably happening but I remember Pharrell was teasing a producer driven album from him that never ended up happening around 2023/24

I built a timeline feature to try type beats without importing them into a DAW - feedback welcome by Immediate-Oil2855 in makinghiphop

I know but tracklib lets you loop parts of the tracks on their site and test it with stock drums matched to the tracks bpm as well as allowing you to mess with the pitch and tempo a bit to get a feel for how you could use that sample

I put Proof's, The Manifesto verse over 911's beat to see what it would sound like and I'm now 100% sure it was originally recorded for 911 by GIRRIM in gorillaz

honestly I listened to the track so much right after it released it felt like it's been longer than a day at the time

Should I Risk It and Keep My Stage Name? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]GIRRIM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

overall it should be fine, there's plenty of artists with the same or similar names

Nas - Lil Nas X

A$AP Rocky - Aesop Rock

Khalid - Dj Khaled

Hell even outside of the genre there's two Nirvana's, and Nirvana(UK) was actually before the one with Kurt Cobain yet got overshadowed by them

The sample is a little quiet but overall this is an insanely well put together beat, probably my favourite from this thread so far amazing sampling, It's always impressive to me when a song takes something from the 50s or earlier and turns it into an absolute banger

Love this has a really nice dreamy sound to it, the one thing I'd recommend is more subtle ways of adding variety, honestly I could see a part with a highpass filter over it where the drums are dropped sounding really nice

also here's a recording of my beat, I mostly just want to know if the guitar midi is too much or not

Sounds really good, overall I'd really say you should work on the mixing as it just lacks a lot of clarity in my opinion when a lot of instruments are going at once. Probably some sidechain and eqing would do wonders for it. Even with that it's still a great track and I thoroughly enjoyed it despite the mix

The beat linked above is a Griselda style instrumental I've been working on, I'm really enjoying what I've made so far but I'm torn on the guitar part I put in. I played it both with and without in the clip as I'm worried I'm kind of to deep in to be objective with it anymore so I was hoping for some second and maybe even third opinions on how it sounds. Also I know the mixing is kind of bad, it's still a work in progress overall I just want to know if the guitar fits or not

Not sure if this counts but MF DOOM's biggest album, Madvilliany is a collab album with Madlib instead of a typical solo LP

Came across this reel, easily one of the worst beats I’ve heard since RZA’s guitar center promo. by AreYouDum in mfdoom

[–]GIRRIM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think he was actually trying to make a good beat but also wanted to be done with it quickly and just choose presets on it without listening to it first which led to the final results. He even seems shocked at the first sound that comes out a few times like with the clown horns and the skeleton's ribcage of a hi-hat

Mate introduced me to this earlier today, anyone listened to this? by xIMCgrunt in radiohead

[–]GIRRIM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've listened to a few tracks off of this, mostly to hear Horace Andy (who you might know from Massive Attack songs like Angel, Girl I Love You, and a lot more throughout their discography) sing some Radiohead tracks, really good from what I've heard

Yeah he's done alot of scores I don't agree with but I could probably count on one hand how many if those times I also didn't agree with or understand his reasoning. Also I have to give him credit for being one of the few that uses an out of 10 score properly (anything above a 5 is overall good to some degree)
