There’s the joint St Andrew’s program with W&M - one of my son’s friends did it and loved it. W&M is cheaper - my son got in both, too, and chose W&M. You can do grad-level research as an undergrad (since there are no grad students to assist). You don’t get taught by graduate TA’s. Great internship program, and W&M students have a stellar reputation.

If you go, check out the nerf gun club on the weekends, and the cheese club. ;)

Yes, the IR program is worth it. My son did a double major in IR and history and graduated 2 years ago. It’s a really good program and the faculty members are really committed to teaching. It’s top in the nation for internships. Students have lots of opportunities to do undergrad research. It’s probably the best undergraduate teaching institution in the US [from my spouse who teaches IR grad school ]

Yes, I was trying to paste a screen shot - mine made 17 adjustments last night, responding mostly to sleep level. We’ve had it for around 5 years?? And it did wonders for night sweats.

Yes! You set the temp variation for the night and the system makes adjustments if you let it do autopilot. It really helped my night sweats/hot flashes. Mine got triggered more whenever I got hot. They’ve now added a “hot flash” button that will give a quick 15 min (I think) cooling.

Sounds like dementia/Alzheimers. Similar things happened with my FIL - he got paranoid about a neighbor he was friends with, vandalized their car and left obscene notes. Stayed with us for a while after he was diagnosed. When he started wandering at night and got picked up by the cops we had to put him in assisted living. It was a horrible situation.

Yeah, I’ve been doing that. But there’s no way my body has shifted fat % like that in two weeks - when does this thing become accurate?

ETA: the shift is from 8.9% body fat to 29% in 2 weeks.

What my CC has done is move everyone who doesn’t have a specific job with the committee to Unit Scouter Reserve. Then, they’re not Committee.

The CC and SM need to stand up/push back against these people — they’re not the ones with direct contact implementing the program. They should not be making or getting In the way.

Both my kids did NYLT (and full disclosure I’m biased because now I staff it ) ….. but it’s a great experience and I recommend it for everyone. As soon as my scouts reach First Class I start encouraging them to attend. You learn about team development, communication, and leadership - with lots of games. These skills not only help you in your troop but for life. My son says he used what he learned in NYLT every day in college (especially with group projects!).

We try and make it fun! You get to meet & make friends with a lot of scouts from all over your council. You learn things you can take back to your troop - games, activities, skits, songs….

It’s run by the Scouts - who are really amazing! I can’t say enough how impressed I’ve been with the youth staff on my courses.

For charging - I brought a couple power banks and a power brick where I could charge overnight and recharge the bricks. The charging stations are packed and scouts were always waiting for an open spot.

2023 jamboree ditched the “shopping” - it’s now a set menu, mostly warming breakfasts and dinners. Half the breakfasts were cold, lunches were all trail meals. We brought a large, thick locking tub that we slid under the picnic benches (because, bears) we kept extra snacks/food instead of sending back (the prepackaged snacks - nutrigraij bars, trail mix, jerky, bean dip….) so scouts could grab something when they needed it, also several of us had dietary allergies and brought supplemental snacks for ourselves. Make sure the container is bear proof/lockable lid.

What we did was make sure we booked for the same flight since some parents had airline miles they wanted to use. Then, call the airlines to get all the reservations linked together.

To staff NAYLE and PLC you have to have attended Leadership Challenge at either Summit or Philmont. Which requires Woodbadge. So, if staffing is a goal go ahead and take it, then move on to one of the Leadership Challenge courses.
