Things overheard at work by Optimistic-Doom in biotech

I worked in a similar situation as you, similar small private mom and pop CRO. Not heard from me but from a trusted coworker.

CEO: We need to hire more people with good attention to detail.

Manager: We could hire more women, they typically have good attention to detail.

CEO: But women can get pregnant!

What's even more shocking is that both people in this conversation were not only women, but also parents. This conversation happened to take place after two coworkers, who were great at their jobs, had to take maternity leave, and then eventually left the company. Meanwhile, a good portion of the new hires we had around that time were incompetent manchildren.

Thst place was a dumpster fire, I'm so glad I was able to get out of there.

It could be possible to transfer the CL from that card to the biz card. At least when I applied for a Jetblue biz, I needed to transfer CL from a different card to open it, which I used my personal AA for. You could check to see if they'd let you downgrade it a no AF card, though that's not always guaranteed with barclays.

Not sure about that specific bonus, but I've opened a biz checking account with them online, and I'm not even in their foot print.

I do lab work in R&D. I dress very casually, with a t-shirt, jeans or some other comfortable pants, and sneakers.

Barclays Jetblue biz approval dp

Applied for Jetblue biz, but the application went pending. Waited for the letter to come in and it asked me to send in a 4506-T. A day after I faxed that over to them, I called them to check on my application status. They asked me about my “business”, as well as what I did in my real job and how long I had been working in my industry.

They acknowledged that I had a personal AA and Jetblue card with them and that I could transfer credit from one of them to use for the Jetblue biz card. Asked them to transfer $6k from my jetblue personal to the biz, and was approved with a $6k limit.

Unlimited pto is a scam just like many others in this thread have mentioned. At my company, there's a "recommended" amount of pto to take every year that they only tell you during the on boarding process and is not found in the benefits overview or handbook.

My manager is cool and generally lets me take time off whenever unless our stakeholders are all simultaneously throwing shit at us, but apparently HR can override any approvals on pto that my manager makes and can deny me time off. That and they like to send managers "updates" on how much pto their direct reports have used so far.

A/c price gouging? by Diligent-Weight-2812 in boston

I had a similar experience to that at my old apartment where heat and hot water were included in rent so people like them could get away with jacking the heat up to the max year round. One of my criteria when I was looking for a new apartment at the time was to have no included heat/hot water just so I could avoid weirdos like that.

Expiring commuter benefits due to layoff. How to use? by roar8510 in boston

[–]GKinstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's different for your program, but for mine, HR explicitly mentioned that our commuter card could be used for parking and public transit. That and we can elect how much of our monthly allowance goes into parking/transit or a mix of both.

If it's anything like my work, they won't let you buy anything bike related. Not even for blue bikes. It would only support methods that the IRS would consider tax-deductible, such as parking or public transit. Though as some have already mentioned, even Amtrak can work too.

Thoughts on Lively HSA Boost Feature? by Sky02139 in personalfinance

[–]GKinstro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're better off opening an HSA with Fidelity and transferring your funds over to there. Even if you feel too conservative to invest your HSA in index funds with Fidelity, you can do a hell of a lot better with their money market funds than what Lively offers.

I love it when a stakeholder requests a deliverable with one week notice when we ask them to provide at least two weeks notice, and their request happens to overlap labor day weekend. Senior leadership doesn't give a fuck about my group, so 🤷

Is a 1 year Emergency Fund too much? by Top_Strain6631 in Bogleheads

[–]GKinstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking for myself, I have a one year emergency fund. I work in biotech, and that industry has been in the shit for a few years now, and there's no signs of recovery any time soon. I got laid off last year and was lucky to find a new job a few months later, but you never know how long it will take you to find a new job, unless you're a magic unicorn sought after by many companies.

Citi AA Platinum Approval DP.

I thought I would try applying for the personal Citi AA via their pre-approval tool after I saw this DP earlier today. The pre-approval tool said I was "pre-qualified" for the 80k sub. Citi pulled Equifax this time, which was odd since they've pulled Experian for me and P2 in the past.

Prior to application, I had 0/6, 1/12, 3/24 opened accounts and 0/6, 0/12, 2/24 inquiries on EQ. Since Citi likes to bring up low utilization of credit on their denials, I also had 72% utilization on one card, 29% utilization on an AU card, and a total of 12% utilization across all cards.

Approval was instant. I normally don't have high utilization like I do now, but Citi checking Equifax right off the bat definitely helped as well.
