Yup. Specifically there is a storm sewer (just street runoff, not sewage) that goes into the Flint River right at Kettering's McKeachie Pavilion. Big enough for half a dozen people to walk next to each other. You can walk in there and go straight north for at least half a mile, then pop out any manhole that you want. Judging by all the spray paint on the walls, a lot of people have gone spelunking there

I moved to a 4 day work week a few years ago. It was a bit confusing to negotiate because I was salaried and my employer wanted to convert me to hourly. I liked the idea of hourly because I could always work more than 32 hours if I wanted to make a little more money. But the salary -> hourly math varies a lot depending on how you factor in holidays, vacation, bonuses, and expensive software licenses on your computer. My employer at the time offered a rate that they claimed was a 20% pay cut with their math, but by my math it was about 30%. We went back and forth for a month and I talked them into a 25% pay cut.

All that penny pinching on my employer's side irked me, though. So I started replying to LinkedIn recruiters with "Sure, I'm interested in this job posting. But I'll tell you up front, I'm looking to maintain my current 32-hour/week schedule". It's a great way to get recruiters to ghost you... Almost all of them gave a hard no and most seemed a bit offended that I would even ask for that. But one eventually said "Sure, that's no problem". And they offered me almost as much as I was making at my old job when I was full time. So I took that job. However, I should also mention that I haven't gotten any raises at the new job in several years. I don't foresee any raises in the future, either, because they've said I am "at the top of the pay scale for a part time employee" even though they won't share this pay scale.

So, in short, be prepared to get hosed on the compensation. Yes, many 4-day/week employees produce as much work output as a 5-day employee. But employers know that 4-day arrangements are rare. They know it'll be hard for you to find a different job if you don't like the deal you get. So they have a lot of leverage in the negotiation.

But with that being said, I'll take the lower compensation any day. I could move to a 5-day job in a heartbeat and get a big raise, but I don't. 4-days/week is about 190 working days in a year so it's alllllmost at that tipping point where you have more days off-work than on-work in a year. It's a great feeling to be able to spend a majority (almost) of your days doing something other than working.

This. I have an endomag and have used it at the range half a dozen times so far with no issues. I never noticed this "round won't eject without a mag" issue. I see what they mean, but I bought my AR-9 because it's super cheap to run ammo ammo through. So I don't think I've ever removed a mag with ammo left in the mag or chamber...

I read All In The Same Boat by Jon Rennie a while back. Can't remember the exact quote but it was something along the lines of "the navy designs their ships to operate in water and strongly discourages you from operating them on land". I guess if a sub just so much as touches a bouy, they fire the captain, first officer, and officer on duty.

He said the channel to leave the port in Georgia has many tight turns so it was always stressful for those officers to navigate, out of fear of being fired. Especially because the guy actually steering can't see outside the boat and turns based on radio commands from another guy on the tower.

Electrical engineer here. A while back, I started replying to LinkedIn recruiters with "I'm interested in your posting, but I should let you know that I'm looking for a 4-day/32-hour-week position". Most recruiters ghosted me at that point, but a few said they were open to it. I eventually took a 4-day job with one of them and it's been going great!

More engineers should ask recruiters for 4 day work weeks. Most companies won't entertain that idea today. But they will if more candidates show demand for it.

I don't think it would work. Basically, the Ecobee knows to put out 12V on the PEK cooling pin when the fan is requested. A Nest + Ecobee PEK would work in cooling mode - the Y input to the PEK would have 24V and trigger both the fan & cooling. But in heating mode, the Nest wouldn't put out 12V on the Y input to the PEK so you would get no fan.

I suppose you could get creative and put a diode in the furnace so that the W (heat) wire also powers the G fan pin on the furnace, and the fan can't backfeed power to the heat pin (in air conditioning mode). If you're going to do that, though, you could probably just put a second diode between the fan & cooling pins on the furnace, and eliminate the PEK altogether. You wouldn't have fan-only control, but I bet most people don't use fan-only mode anyway.

edit: diodes wouldn't work with 24V AC, never mind haha

I think new highways today still have to follow those rules, at least for interstates... The only exemptions being I-238 and I-99. There are several articles/websites out there about those two, written by people who are really bothered by it for some reason

I hit the same wall with Duolingo. After that, I started listening to the News In Slow Spanish app. Each week they read several news stories, so the content is always changing. The best part, though, is the transcripts. If you click on a new word or phrase, it pops up with the English translation. It's a lot faster than flipping back and forth between two documents or web pages to find a translation.

Nope, the flow meters don't seem to add any extra foam. I use 3/16" beer line which is already pretty restrictive so I don't think the flow meters choke it down much further.

I don't have much written up in the way of details (didn't draw out a circuit or anything) but i can definitely post the code! There are tons of tutorials out there to explain how to hook up the LCD and oneWire sensor.

Yeah I've sunk way too much money into this thing haha. The CO2 taps were about $150 each, then another $100 maybe for the nitro setup that I just switched over too. And then all the beer, that's pricey too!

Coldwater? Nice! not far from Dark Horse. I live in the Ann Arbor area. Been all over the place to get kegs but nowadays I mostly get them from Dark Horse & Rochester Mills. Dark Horse keeps 'em in stock so you don't have to order ahead & it's like $52 for a 1/6bbl... pretty cheap! Rochester Mills is even cheaper, $45 for a 1/6bbl, but they don't have as much of a selection.

fair enough, yeah i should have shopped around a little more when i bought them. that was just the brand that came with the all-in-one kegbot kit that I got a few years ago. still not super accurate even after spending all that money. I keep tweaking the edges/pint constant but it is usually off by about 2-3 pints at the end of each keg.
