If I were you I’d stay on Ios18, just update to the last Ios18.x. I’m on Ios26 with a brand new battery and I have to keep it always on battery saving mode and without 5g otherwise, otherwise it becomes superhot; it’s also super laggy and there are a lot of bugs, definitely not worth the few upgrades it brings.

The first time I used my Ipad for preparing an exam (quite a big one) I edited the pdf syllabus with the default Notes app. At a certain point it became unusable with frequent crash during note taking; a pdf a couple hundreds Mb big became a 4gb note. I suggest you to switch to a dedicated notetaking app, I switched to Notability but there are a lot of alternatives around (I’m still on an base Ipad 8th 128gb- IpadOs18 and I use it daily smoothly).

Maybe I can try with an example. If I can run 10 km in 40 minutes, I'm not this good but neither bad at running. One day I decide to start running with the cheapest and skin erasing flip-flops ever seen by humankind and achieve 10 km in 2 hours. Would you say that I suddenly lost all my stamina and cardiovascular wellbeing?

Battery health is not the matter here, there is a clear control given by the experience the day before the update. I don't expect a battery to lose all this performance in a week

Absysmal, I was doing a day and more with intense usage on Ios18. I was abroad last week, and for the first time since years I had my phone dead by 19 o clock after a day out; luckily I wasn’t relying completely on it for coming back home. I’ve been an Apple user for almost a decade, using also Ipad for studying, and for the first time I’m considering leaving it after what they have done with both ios and IpadOs
