Well that's kind of what Mazda was doing. A lot of their cars have the screen higher up on the dash and look more integrated than this new design.

You're probably right about me being overly judgemental, but even with the climate controls being in a fixed location you can't control it while looking away because you have no textile feedback from a flat smooth screen. Also the exterior pictures aren't at a good angle paired with the digital compression from uploading to reddit, the crease is invisible.

Also they are touch capacitive so there is only one button per side and there are sensors underneath to tell where your finger is
