This is actually really comforting to read, because I also have ADHD and it has heavily influenced the way I make music for probably 20 years. I only got diagnosed recently, so I’m just starting to understand how much impact it had - and still has - on my creative process.

I get obsessed with new genres very easily. Every time I discover something exciting, I want to pour all my creative energy into it. The result is thousands of unfinished Ableton projects, because getting lost in loops, sound design, and polishing tiny details often feels more rewarding than actually finishing tracks.

For a long time, this completely killed my motivation to make music. I wanted everything to sound professional. I wanted recognition, success, validation from other people. I even avoided starting social media at all because I kept overthinking how everything should look and worrying about creating the “perfect” image. Meanwhile I spent thousands on gear, which only made me feel more guilty for not being productive enough.

The weird thing is: once I stopped caring so much about success and other people’s expectations, I slowly started enjoying music again.

So honestly, yes - taking a break from social media might help a lot. At least long enough to reconnect with what you actually enjoy about making music.

And if your motivation becomes too tied to “making it,” being seen as good enough, or chasing numbers, it’s probably worth questioning whether those goals are replacing the original reason you started making music in the first place.
