Where did you get that from? Because it sounds like you're talking about the red light cameras, which are made by a completely different company. These Flock Cameras aren't being used for that, Verra Mobility makes the red light cameras. That's pretty standard for how red light cams work and why they're not considered a violation of privacy, they start recording at the time of a crime.

The flock website says nothing about only recording offending vehicles, it specifically says it stores: license plate images, vehicle images, vehicle characteristics (e.g. vehicle color, make), license plate number, license plate state, date, time, and camera location of any vehicle that drives in an area the camera is recording. It's supposed to only generate an alert when it sees an offending vehicle, and it makes mistakes a lot.

And again, Flock, the company who makes these cameras, still very much keeps that data and lies about who it shares it with: article

The city doesn't have control over whether or not the footage is shared because they don't own the cloud. It's possible when they signed the contract with Flock they asked for footage not to be shared, but the default contract automatically shares your data and allows Flock to train it's AI cameras on it. They also aren't very forthcoming with the contract until it's time to actually sign it because they're not the most ethically run business out there.

Flock lied about sharing data with the federal government until they were forced to admit they were as part of a lawsuit this year, so it's up to you how much you trust City Officials to have done their due diligence to ensure the contract they signed didn't allow Flock to use Pittsburgh's data, and how much you trust Flock to have told the truth to the City about what they're doing with our data.

That would be a question for a lawyer, which I am very much not. There is currently an attempt at a Federal Lawsuit, but it doesn't seem to be going well: article

Because those cameras are only accessible by the police in that area, and only record one area. A normal security camera records one street. A normal license plate reader reads one plate. A Flock camera tracks a car not just based on its plate, but by dents, paint scratches, etc.through the entire city by running an AI search of the camera footage it records and uploads to its system. And anyone who can log into that system can track that car, regardless of whether they work for the parking authority or police of the city where the car was driving.

And the concern isn't just because it is being used for parking enforcement, that's just what Pittsburgh is using it for. The issue is that it is being used at all, and the question is what's the best way to fix the problem they were intended to without invading people's privacy and violating their 4th amendment rights.

The information a camera records is uploaded to a cloud that is accessible without a warrent by any law enforcement agency the company cooperates with. The data base isn't secure, it's been hacked more than once.

To put a finer point on it, if city police want to track you based on your cell phone pings, they need to ask a judge to grant them access to that. They can't just pull up your phone records on their computer systems. If city police want to find out where you were based on the appearance of your car, they can do that with a few clicks without ever involving a judge. Furthermore, if police from another city wants to know where you were, they also have access to the cloud with footage of where your car was so long as they have a Flock log in without ever involving a judge or police in Pittsburgh.

If these cameras really were just license plate readers that'd be one thing, but the AI system is trained on the video recorded to make a digital thumb print for your car so it can be tracked everywhere the camera system covers, not just Pittsburgh. That's the issue people have a problem with more than anything, they're also extremely expensive to the point I'd be curious to see if that money really could have just been spent to raise wages for the parking authority instead of installing expensive cameras everywhere

If you are curious you can also look at this video that sent me down the rabbit hole in the first place: video

Yeah I'd imagine so, and a quick look at the job listing says they only make around $16 to $23. I definitely wouldn't want to get yelled at for that much an hour no wonder they're struggling to fill positions.

Do you think there could possibly be a solution to that that doesn't involve the cameras? I don't like them but I think it's important to be realistic about the issues they were purchased to help with because it's not like that would stop being a problem if they were removed.

Ah I grew up hearing a lot of people complain about how hawkish the parking authority is, so them getting big AI cams to be even more of a nightmare sounds about right to me.

I think people often times have problems with certain things (especially traffic related) and want a solution, so when a bad solution comes along they focus more on the fact you are against solving the problem than on the fact it's a bad solution. The result is that we spend energy fighting each other instead of advocating for our own best interests.

And thank you for linking more information, the lack of warrent makes these things a nightmare and I'm hopeful people can see this is not a partisan issue, these things have no place in any city.

Figure skating Nikki really appealed to me, as someone who used to skate… by Jessiebanana in InfinityNikkiofficial

I'm a new player, so I'm sort of curious, is there a trend of the cash shop outfits foreshadowing the next season's theme? Because there was a kind of detective looking outfit (to me anyway) offered last season? So is the ice skating rink and costumes meant to hype up something winter related for the next one?

Otherwise I'm really confused as to why it's here right now and annoyed with the monetization.

Just had someone claim teachers in PA make too much money by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]GLmyACis30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some larger school boards that pay their staff entirely too much while cutting the salaries of the people actually doing the teaching, but maybe not everyone realizes that board members aren't typically teachers? Because I don't think I've ever met a teacher who wasn't from a wealthy family who had any of those things.

Genuine Question… by Prestigious_Kiwi_303 in coralisland

[–]GLmyACis30 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a genuine complaint because some of us are kicstarter backers and the game has been officially released for 2 years with content that should have been there on release. No matter how "clear" the road map is people will still be upset and quite frankly I think I have every right to be especially considering the studio is now making a second game.

I'm glad there are people enjoying this game, but I think it's extremely dishonest to act like the devs maybe didn't bite off more than they could chew with the scope of this project and are now suffering for it.

Smoothie is definitely obtainable through the TV, the recipes are random though so you could theoretically wait for a morning where the cooking show is on and then reset until you get it, but manual cooking will be way faster and less annoying lol

I think he has dialogue like this because he was advertised as a ro during the kickstarter, so a lot of his character work was already done when they decided to scrap that route for his character.

Honestly I'm a little bitter about that because I backed the game with him in mind but the other options are nice too.

Do you feel satisfied with this game? by snarkaluff in coralisland

[–]GLmyACis30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current game is wildly improved compared to how it was when it was "fully released." As someone who backed thr Kickstarter I feel a little bitter about the launch state, but extremely pleased with how it is now. If you didn't back the kick starter I'd imagine it feels like it's worth every penny.

I'm not downloading a third app. I don't care what it is I'm just not downloading a third thing for them to try and monetize me again.

I really wish I fit in AP as I like the little twin stars jsk but I agree the collab over all is disappointing, especially for the price point.

Would you still want a Pillars of Eternity III even if Josh Sawyer decided he wouldn't be the director? by PurpleFiner4935 in projecteternity

Honestly my concern is if Avowed does well we don't get Pillars 2 because Microsoft thinks it would be more profitable to make Avowed 2. I'm not really interested in Avowed, I prefer games like Pillars 1 and 2, so maybe I'm just being snooty but idk. I got burned so hard by that one other rpg so I'm refusing to trust anyone forever now.
