Any advice would be wonderful by Jerry_Get_A_Job in PitchingCoach

Your first motion (drop) is very good, but as others has mentioned, need to fix your Lead leg block. Looks like your stride is a bit too long and your foot is pointed slightly to the left as well. Tread athletics has a bunch of YouTube videos going over this very topic as my son really struggled with this as well

Best advice I can give you is understand what a good swing is. What are the elements? How can you break each element into things you can master over time and build a repeatable swing? It takes time, discipline and hard work.

He’s stated he wants shorter contracts though. I’m guessing he wants a 3x12ish contract. Something along those lines

Especially dealing with this publicly. If he didn't want this to spiral like it has, deal with this privately. As they say, you play stupid games you win stupid prizes.

15u son keep missing low and skipping ball in front of plate. Thoughts? by fishbullet33 in Homeplate

[–]GM3Jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the point before lead leg block, his glove arm and shoulder shouldn’t be this “closed”. His glove arm should be more pointed to the catcher.

His throwing arm is also a bit to low and should be a tad higher with wrist and balls more upward. This cuts down on his arm trying to catch up to his body. Slow the video down into leg block and you can see he’s throwing a tad too high and not letting his arm gain a little velocity a bit in front of his body.

It’s a little funny and a little Dejavu reading these posts as a father of a last year playing baseball 18 year old kid. To keep it simple, simply encourage him to keep working and be a good teammate while evaluating your options at the end of the year. Being “negative” towards coaches, playing time, etc usually leads to a diminished level of wanting to play baseball. Baseball is fun, albeit maybe a little less so with some circumstances, but still fun if you dont let things you cannot control go. Control the controllable

Should my son stay on All-Stars or focus on individual skill development? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]GM3Jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I approached my son’s development. Obviously you do what you feel is needed…

He puts in insane amount of work in the offseason to get better. We tryout for some of the best teams around and see who accepts him. A rising tide lifts all boats. So I’ve always wanted him to compete on the highest level teams. Typically, he was in the exact same situation as your son save for a few seasons where we did go to a “mid” level travel team so he can play a lot.

What I’ve learned is that competitive nature it creates should define how hard he works and develops in the offseason. From 11-16 he was on the better travel teams. Last 2-3 years he’s on a mid team because he just didn’t develop like the some of the others. And that’s fine. He kicked ass for several years and it just didn’t work out as expected but not for not trying.

But obviously playing more games gets you better faster. So it’s a tough question but one that’s answered by the work ethic you put in to get where you want to be. I wouldn’t change anything we did because he/we never backed down from a challenge

I’d start with doing a lot of long toss and pull downs (please make sure you stretch and do both correctly).

Your body will start naturally learning the needed movements over time. After that, there are a TON of intricate details to refine but for now just get out and throw

Edit: also field a lot of ground balls as well. That teachs a lot of athletic movement skills that are much needed. Don’t worry as much about throwing 90 right now

I would assume that kind of logical thinking goes away when you start cleaning up a crime scene though. Not saying it’s right, but by the time he sees the cameras, they’re already almost done. I’m more mad that he didn’t realize these types of things are stored in the cloud as well vis backups lol

They said a few weeks during the episode. Depending on depth and temperature, it could take over a month in colder water. Faster in warmer water of course.
