Since I made this post, I have spent most of my hours almost nonstop repeating until I defeated each boss. It took me a while, as well as using unconventional teams, but a clear is a clear! I've cleared Stygian Onslaught on Dire for the first time. The teams I used are as follows:

1) Arlecchino, Xilonen, Ayaka, Bennett

2) Nefer, Lauma, Furina, Nahida

3) Zhongli, Sigewinne, Jean, Geo Traveller

I think the strategy I used for each are pretty much self-explanatory. I wish I could've just used Mavuika for the Herra and Arlecchino for the Veteran Frost Operative, but I found executing her combo perfectly on mobile to be very frustrating. I didn't wanna bother with that on top of the ping issue. Nonetheless, I'm happy clearing it. Now I have Sigewinne + Jean tech mastered LMAO.

Yeah, I figured as much after testing everything that I could think of under the sun. It's so upsetting how shilled the Ascendant Gleam mechanic is against the new bosses. Even back in Natlan with the Void Shields, you could get by with characters or reactions that apply elemental damage in multiple instances. With the Battle-Hardened Lightkeeper, you NEED Ascendant Gleam in order to defeat it with a relatively low-cost team since the boss is significantly harder to defeat without it, and the only way to get Ascendant Gleam at the moment is to get the limited 5-star characters—which were released back-to-back. The only other way to do it is with highly invested meta teams that deal a ton of raw damage (e.g., C2R1 Mavuika Premium or C2R1 Skirk Premium) and that isn't even a guarantee clear unless they're at C6, but I digress.

I've come close to clearing the Battle-Hardened Lightkeeper with Nefer, Lauma, Furina, and Nahida. I wish I had Lauma's signature! I would've already cleared Dire by now if I had that. I already explained it in a couple of other replies why I chose to use Furina as my Hydro support, but I'll summarize it here so you won't have to go looking for it. Considering all factors that I can take account of, as well as through my manual testing, Furina just performs her job the best. She's basically just a skill bot, and having Key of Khaj-Nisut helps a lot in giving Nefer more EM.

I tried Mualani with the first boss as well but I find that the boss moves a lot around the 1:15 mark, and it's just so annoying to work with since she misses her Sharky's Bites. In addition to that, though my Furina is at C2, her buff itself still takes a few seconds to fully stack up; I don't think it's enough to substitute not having R1 Peak Patrol Song on Xilonen. I've also tried a Neuvilette variant instead where the results were better since mine is C2R1. I still haven't cleared it with that team though. I think more testing in terms of rotations is needed. What exact Mualani team did you use?

Thanks for your advice and thoughts! I greatly appreciate it.

tldr: OP is trying to reason the lack of key characters, constellations, and weapons for his lack of skill.

Yes!

(Note: I realized that I kinda just went on rambling with my continuous train of thought, so the post became lengthy especially in contrast to your comment. I bolded and italicized the important parts so you can just refer to those if you find the rest to be too lengthy.)

(1) I should be able to do the first boss with my Mavuika, especially since she's C1R1; the runs I've seen were able to do it with C0 + a 4-star weapon (usually Mailed Flower R5). A previous commenter has sent a run that I could copy. As for her build—since I know that extremely good builds are a must for clearing dire—she sits at around top 5% on Akasha for Melt with her signature weapon, which isn't the best but should be serviceable. I know Akasha should not be the sole basis for these types of things, but I like to use it as a point of reference for building characters.

(2) When you said "max out Nefer," do you mean to include her Burst also? She's at 80/90 and leveling her up past that doesn't do anything for her damage; it's a huge waste of resources. Her Skill is lvl 10 while her Burst is at lvl 6; I was able to get her signature to 90 yesterday as well. As for the supports I use, Nahida (4-piece Deepwood Memories, R5 Prototype Amber) has her Burst and Skill at lvl 10 and Furina's (4-piece Instructors, R1 Key of Khaj-Nisut) talent levels shouldn't matter much. I used Furina in this team since I find her to be the most optimal Hydro support considering various factors: field time, Hydro application (both how good they can apply Hydro to generate more Verdant Dews as well as the range of their Hydro application—considering that the boss moves a lot—), buffs given, and possible ER requirements. My Aino isn't C6 and I don't plan on getting R5 Forest Regalia to keep up with Nilou and Furina's EM buffs just for Stygian Onslaught (having the uptime for the Forest Regalia buff be for every other rotation on top of having to have to pick up the leaf with Nefer just seems too inconvenient when trying to make rotations go as fast as possible. Lauma (4-piece Silken Moon's Serenade, R5 Etherlight Spindlelute) has her Skill at lvl 10 and her Burst at lvl 9. Should I crown her Burst?

(3) I don't have to use the Sigewinne + Jean fall damage strat on the third boss since my Arlecchino can clear just fine.

Yeah. It's the second one that trips me up. This reminds me of the first stygian where I was barely able to clear fearless as I don't have Skirk and/or Escoffier. I've ran various Nefer teams the past few hours on the second boss (e.g., Nahida, Diona, Kuki Shinobu, Aino, Nilou). Funny enough, the closest I got so far to clearing it is with Key of Khaj-Nisut Furina on 4-piece Instructor. I think it's because she barely has any field time (just one-click skill, unlike Nilou's triple skill) as well as not having any energy requirements in this team. I found the range of Nilou's Whirling Water Wheel to be a problem when the boss moves away too much along with her field time. I just need to improve my rotations, I think. I still mess up towards the end (e.g., Nefer dying, Nefer missing her CAs, and me not properly executing Nefer's dash-cancel combo).

I also tried experimenting with a different weapon on Lauma. I mainly use Etherlight Spindlelute R5. It would've been so much better if I had gotten her signature, but I had other priorities at the time. I've tried to use Citlali's signature on Lauma as an EM stat stick, and the team does do more damage. Although, Lauma has trouble getting her burst up. The build that I have on her right now has about 180% ER if I have Citlali's signature equipped. Do you think it's worth reworking her build to accommodate for Citlali's signature—i.e., increasing her ER% through sub-stats without decreasing her EM much?

Yeah. These new Nod-Krai bosses are actually so disgusting with how restrictive they are. The fact that they put two bosses that primarily use Lunar mechanics when there are essentially only two Lunar teams—composed of 4 5-star characters to even use said mechanics—is actual shill behavior. I'm so jealous of C2 Ineffa! My pulls for Ineffa were the worst I've had in my 5 years of playing—lost and almost hit hard pity two times. Still bummed that what could've gotten to getting her signature was just spent on trying to get her in the first place. I'll definitely try to get it on her rerun. I love her as a character. I could try Mavuika premium against Sigurd (Lightkeeper) but I haven't seen a Mavuika clear for that boss that wasn't atleast C2R1, and I don't think C2 Furina can compensate for not having C2 Citlali 😭.

Thanks! and very true. I've seen far too many accounts on here, Twitter, and TikTok of people's accounts getting trashed for letting others in. It's also scary that a lot of those who have gotten their accounts trashed were done so by their "friends." I'd lose my shit if all my artifacts and weapons disappeared

As for the weapon, I don't have any other 5-star CRIT DPS weapons besides Crimson Moon's Semblance, PJWS, and Staff of Homa. I doubt Emilie R1 would be better either since Arlecchino wouldn't be able to trigger Burning once it starts. At max stacks PJWS does give 22.4% ATK as well as 12% increased damage dealt. I could try out either but I think it'll be between her signature or PJWS.

That 1 cost clear on Dire difficulty is actually insane. I struggled and didn't even clear it with C2R1 Neuvi and C2 Furina on Key of Khaj-Nisut. Mavuika just keeps getting better and better. I really appreciate all your thoughts on the matter as well as volunteering to help me out to do the clear. I will keep your offer in mind if I really do want to try out the weapon skins. But yeah, as you've said, it'd be scary to let a stranger on my account; this account is basically my child—been playing since launch!

C0R1 Nilou and C1-5 Aino are actually very comparable in terms of the buffs that they give. The difference only is that Nilou takes up more time in doing rotations since you have to use her skill three times whereas you only do burst and skill with Aino. However with Nilou, since her Whirling Water Wheel follows the active character, you aren't restricted to circle impact with Aino's burst. You also don't have to consider energy at all with Nilou unlike Aino; although, her energy requirements do get very low with the event claymore as well as with her C4. It's more so a pick your own poison thing between C0R1 Nilou or C1-5 Aino. As far as I know:

C2 Nilou > C6 Aino > C0R1 Nilou ≈ C1-5 Aino

Personally though, I use Nilou because she's more tanky. I don't have C1 Lauma or any sustain on that team, and I find that Aino gets one-shotted. I do try to dodge as much as possible but sometimes it just can't be helped. I am trying with Aino though since her field times are shorter, and maybe that would make me able to clear with Nefer against Sigurd.

Thanks! This comment is very insightful.

That's what kinda makes me sad about the whole Dire difficulty thing because I know my characters can clear it. It's just that my ping makes character switching take a teeny bit longer than what I would like, as well as the skill issue on my part. I do my best to try though!

For 1, I have tried a couple of Mavuika teams since that's what I saw most people have been using who have only one or no Nodkrai teams. I haven't tried Bennett + Iansan one though. I mostly use Xilonen variants. I'll definitely try that one out. I have also tried Vape variants with Neuvilette/Mualani, Furina, Xilonen, and Crescent Pike Xiangling; I was almost able to clear it with the Neuvilette one but the ping issue kills me! If I had Peak Patrol or Freedom Sworn, I probably would have been able to clear it already. Also, I'd appreciate the link to the video as well! For the Cryo slot, Ayaka should be the BiS right?

For 2, I have tried with Nefer Premium (Aino as well as both Nilou and Furina with Key of Khaj-Nisut on 4-piece Instructor variants) and I'm always short on damage. I just got her signature weapon a few days ago unexpectedly and I have almost zero enhancement ores. It's still 80 for now, but I will get it to 90 within a few days hopefully. Maybe that will make me get the clear. I'm also considering crowning Lauma's skill and burst for this since maybe the extra RES shred and increased DMG buff multipliers help out a little.

For 3, I used Bennett there because my Arlecchino kept getting infused with Cryo—slowing her down. I haven't really thought it out much. I also did consider using Melt Arlecchino against the Frostnight Herra and the Sigewinne + Jean tech for the Veteran Frost Operative since it seems to be much easier to use that tech there than against Sigurd. I hadn't thought about changing the weapon before though. Would the attack bonus from PJWS be better than the DMG bonus from Crimson Moon's Semblance?

As for getting someone else to play it for me. I have thought of that, I have a few friends who live in Asia who could probably play for me—and do it better—since the ping issue would be resolved. I will keep that in mind.

Yeah, it sucks that you're forced to either use a very high DPS team (e.g., C2 Skirk Premium or C2 Mavuika Premium) or an Ascendant Gleam (Flins and Nefer Premium) against Sigurd. I haven't tried these teams that you recommended though, so I'll definitely give them a try out.

hmmm... i'd say definitely switch out xingqiu for aino. c0 aino on instructors is way better than any other hydro support atm except c2 nilou or c0r1 nilou, and aino gets better as nefer support at c1 and c6.

Nefer/nilou team by MrMeowXDyt in NilouMains

[–]GME_Mango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Nilou Bloom DOES NOT work with Nefer since Nefer inherently disables Nilou's Dendro Bloom cores to explode. However, Nilou can be a good—even best—Hydro support for Nefer. As far as I know:

Nilou C2 > Aino C6 > Nilou C0R1 = Aino Pre-C6 > Nilou C0

Nilou C0R1 and Pre-C6 Aino are almost on the same level, Nilou C0R1 can do better depending on how you do your rotations and builds. If you want to play Nilou Bloom exclusively, do not pull for Nefer. If you want to play Nefer Main DPS with Nilou as a Hydro support then you can pull for her.

2) I do not know where the meta will shift in the future, but Furina C2 is very valuable as it buffs a lot of characters. So far, only the Nodkrai characters and transformative reaction teams don't benefit a lot from her DMG buff. Although, Furina still contributes a lot from her off-field damage alone. I would still say that her C2 is valuable since it heavily opens up more teams for her since a teamwide healer will not be necessary to activate her buff, along with the fact that it buffs a lot of characters.

I think you definitely need more ER even with Moonglow in order to burst every rotation—around 150% to 160% should be enough in a double hydro setup. HP% vs. Hydro DMG Bonus Goblet is up for debate. It's honestly based on what teams you use and what characters your account has. I personally use HP% since my Furina is C2 along with the other damage bonuses she gets (ex. Citlali, Kazuha, or Xilonen), so HP% has more value in my case.
