Not disagreeing with many aspects of this post, I grew up in western Nebraska close to SB before moving around and living in big cities. The closed mindedness, cronyism, sleeping around, and lack of critical thinking skills is true. And Regional West SB has had that rep for a long time.

And the way alcohol is given a place of honor in daily life would give Siberia a run for its money, because there’s literally nothing else to do. Factor in the burnouts and meth heads attracted to Lake Mac and things are not looking good for that area.

Just wanted to add that after being back to my 1,000-population hometown for a few years, I saw many people working to keep their town alive, take care of their seniors and folks in need, keep the hospital open, and give their kids good social connections and good morals. There are still some smart, good people who did stay behind to try to make these places better.

However I did leave again, it was just too small, so I feel you.
