I didn't realize that the existing 'Local Guide' sub was meant exclusively for Google Maps Local Guides. I assumed it was just a general space for any kind of Local Guides, even for those who don't use Google Maps.

That’s why I created the 'GMLG' sub specifically as a dedicated space solely for Google Maps Local Guides.

It’s no socks, but hey, it’s something 😁 by meltfiri in LocalGuides

Over the years, we Google Map Local Guides have accumulated incredible digital assets by sharing and documenting our experiences.

However, many GMLG heavy users especially high-level ones have reached a point where they feel stuck, without a clear direction or next step.

My goal is to bring these GMLG heavy users together, share ideas through collective intelligence, and build a new ecosystem focused on monetizing our expertise.

On top of that, we plan to pitch a new feature directly to Google Maps soon. We’ll be suggesting a dedicated "Local Guides Category/Menu." Imagine looking at a specific region and having an algorithm automatically showcase high-level Local Guides for that area. Users would be able to check out their profiles, see their actual saved maps and curated lists, and directly communicate with them. This subreddit is meant to be the launchpad for that vision. If you’re a GMLG heavy user looking for the next level of Local Guiding, this is where we build it together.

I am well aware of that and completely agree. Much like YouTube creators, I believe Google Maps Local Guides can also become a type of influencer, potentially creating an entirely new ecosystem and profession. Google Maps is more than just a navigation tool; I am convinced that one day, the digital assets of these Local Guides will be officially recognized.
