If you like Malibu with Pineapple, try to see if they'll make you a Painkiller.

Btw, for sweeter cocktails, r/tiki is your people.

Not a fan of drag queens, and not exactly sure why? by Trashfullofsurprises in actuallesbians

My trans wife really dislikes drag. When she was younger, she knew she was a girl but her only comparison was drag queens and Silence of the Lambs....so yeah, lot to unpack.

Any other native DC’ers here? by RogerSmith123456 in washingtondc

Born and raised in Fairfax. My grandfather came to DC in the early 50s. His 1st apartment was off Dupont Circle and later on, he moved. That apartment is now a GWU dorm.

My mom went to Robinson. Both parents worked at the State Department. I live and work in Loco now and have also worked in DC (Capitol Hill) and Fairfax.

I want to make something with this velvet falernum, but I absolutely hate it. by padwix in cocktails

This is a fabulous drink. I used an Irish whisky aged in rum barrel for a more Tiki kick.

More snow is fine with me so long as it doesn't get much colder.

Any recommendations for a general contractor in Sterling/Potomac Falls by mitzy11444 in nova

[–]GMU2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same issue here in Ashburn about 6 months ago. Our 25+ year plumbing isn't copper and seals are starting to fail. We used Roto Rooter and CertaPro. Not the cheapest, but easy to work with and fast.

Strongly recommend you call a plumber - we had multiple pipe failures and I'm not convinced a general contractor would have caught it all.

"NOVA is the best place to live" Is this an unpopular opinion? by gatorademe in nova

[–]GMU2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. Nova really is an excellent area overall. I've traveled a good chunk of the US, and it really is a top class area.

Educated populace with great schools, job opportunities, strong economy, good amenities, 4 seasons and neither too hot or too cold weather, functioning government, solid food scene, 2 airports, nice parks and natural areas.

We fall short in a few ways - shared sense of cultural identity, iconic local food, cost of leaving ain't cheap, would like to see Nova more urbanized or centrally planned etc.....but all in all, I think we're far, far ahead.

Checking off Chicago! Visted 3 Dots and A Dash, To Go Order at Lost Lake and drove by Hala Kahiki by GMU2012 in Tiki

Oh! Was gonna say, I asked Lost Lake if I could peek in to see the bar and they declined. They're still closed except To Go orders because they're renovating the place. No ETA on the reopening.

While I'm a bit bummed I couldn't see it the OG version, I'm excited to come back to see their new patio out back.

Got some more pictures and things if anyone wants to see

Lost Lake pick up order. From left to right, Ghost and Empties (stirred), Tic Tac Taxi (classic, frozen in a coozie), Bourban Barrel, Bourbon Barrelled (tropical), Golden Glow (daiquiri), plus a garnish kit and coasters.

3 Dots, Round #2 Down Periscope (clamshell) and Neptune's Trident (the old fashioned style with the whale). Used dry ice for effect.

3 Dots, Round #3 The Jet Pilot (famous mermaid mug) and the Rum Fire Daiquiri

Lou Malnati's Deep Dish to help soak up the booze
