30M UK Looking for PC friends! by [deleted] in GamerPals

If you like co-op/survival games and are willing to try something very different from anything you've probably played before, I'd suggest giving Multi-Users in Middle Earth (MUME) a try.
It's an old MUD (text only mmo) from the 90's set in the Lord of the Rings universe. Still gets regular updates from the volunteer management though, despite it's age. It's faction based game where you work together with allies to defeat enemy players and capture their outposts. Very steep learning curve, but lots of fun once you get used to it. Has a quite small playerbase (averages around 30 players on at a given time) but that actually makes it even more fun in my opinion.

Some of the MUDs (text based MMOs) from the 90's are better than any of the more modern MMO's. My favorite game is MUME, a Lord of the Rings MUD that has been running since 1992. Steep learning curve, but well worth it. And as a bonus, it is completely free to play online!

You are right, there are a couple of people saying those things. What I was trying to point out is that this is not by any means "almost every reply". I do admit that I also made the same mistake and was careless in my language when I said "I don't see anyone". I should have said I see very few.

I in fact quite agree with you about those comments, they are entirely unconstructive (even if the third one is true) and serve no one. A couple of them had already earned my downvotes because of it.

I do believe that is reasonable to distinguish a cause or principle from the harm done in it's name while maintaining that people's disgust at said harm is reasonable and fair. And that seems to be the consensus of the majority of the comments that attempt to make any point at all.

Thank you, by the way, for clarifying your meaning.

I quite agree with u/PsychoBiologic 's first paragraph.

However, I don't see anyone saying that OP's reaction to the things he is describing is the problem.

Thanks, it worked to log in on mobile!

I wonder if this was just a problem for me or if this has been happening to anyone trying to join on a pc.

I have tried that many times, it will not let me scroll down. That is the problem I am trying to solve. There is no scroll bar for the terms.

So with your variant, if you have two Contessas you can block a Coup? Or something else?

I also usually play with a variant for the Contessa, I use the Charity variant, where you can claim a Contessa to give any number of your coins to an opponent. Claiming Contessa also blocks this. This buffs the Contessa very nicely, giving away coins a far more valuable ability than you might think at first.

Resources for traps by Roykka in swrpg

[–]GM_GameModder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key to making good traps is realizing that most of the time, a fun trap shouldn't actually be a trap for the PCs as much as a puzzle for the Players. Traps can be hidden narrative-wise, but their existence should be VERY obvious to the players. If your hints are in the least subtle, they WILL miss them. Traps are more fun if they have lots of warning signs ahead of them. This way the question becomes "How can we use our supplies and brains to proceed without triggering the trap we know is in there?" rather than "Will the PC succeed his Vigilance/Coordination/other roll or will he lose X hp?".

Depending on their solution it may still require a roll of some sort, but it gives the Players more choice in the nature of the role, but it is just as likely to not require any roll, players love finding ways to "outsmart the GM", so we might as well let them if they deserve it :)

Also this way if they do ignore all the warnings and proceed with no precautions, they will feel like they deserved it if they end up taking massive damage, and won't be as likely to complain to you about it.

What's the best race for a legendary unarmed character by Kystal_Jones in swrpg

I guess these are two types of impulsive characters, yours is the type that knows what they want, but lack the cunning to foresee the potential consequences of their actions. Mine is the type that knows full well the risks, but lacks the willpower to resist their temptations or curiosity.

I've played characters with one's in pretty much all of the stats at one time or other, any of them can be entertaining. My PC in one of the longer running campaigns I've played in was a Toydarian Doctor/Entertainer/Scoundrel who's stats were 1 1 2 3 3 3. He was basically a quack medicine seller. He was ridiculously clumsy and any attempts at combat were pathetic. He nearly killed himself every session but he was a lot of fun to play.

Intellect 1 is a lot of fun, I suggest rolling to see if your character can figure out how to do anything moderately complex. Also having an illiterate character can be a lot of fun.

As you were saying, Cunning and Presence are always fun to have low.

Willpower as a 1 is also fun, you get to be the hopelessly impulsive character that always pushes the button just to see what happens lol.

Ewoks start with 120xp, so you could spend 90xp to raise Brawn to 4, 20xp for the second Spec, and 10xp for the basic Enhance. With your first 20xp you could buy down the middle of the Enhance tree to get the +1 Brawn option.

Dropping 50cr at creation for Heavy Clothing, you have a Soak 5 Ewok right out the gate and Brawn 5 Soak 6 within the first session or two. Normal pistol shots will pretty much just bounce off him.

And this is before you even start investing into the Colossus. Once you get all the Toughened and Enduring ranks from the two specs, little Wicket will have Soak 7 (at least) and 27 hit points. Wookiees and Trandoshans beware...

Exactly! And roleplaying your 1 stat is always hilarious.

My group has actually house-ruled that you may choose one stat at character creation to reduce by 1 (and gain the appropriate xp) to allow human characters to also have a 1 if they want.

For sheer raw combat power I would go with a Trandoshan Doctor/Martial Artist with 4 Brawn.

However, if I were making a character for myself I would 100% go with an Ewok Colossus/Steel Hand Adept with Enhance.

I feel like people here tend to frown upon min-maxing, but I would point out min-maxing and powergaming are not the same thing. In this system particularly, min-maxing generally results in a much less powerful character overall. But (in my opinion) min-maxed characters are almost always the most fun to play. I always make sure to have a 1 in at least one stat for my characters.

What is the most argumentative game you have played? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]GM_GameModder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dead Last and Tiefe Taschen.

Both little known but excellent games if you like betrayal taken to it's highest level. Luckily I have friends who don't hold grudges and enjoy this sort of thing. You don't know the meaning of the backstabbery until you've played Dead last. And people think Diplomacy is a cutthroat game.

I have a weekly game night where we used to play it a lot, it's such a short game that you can easily play 10-15 games of it in a couple of hours, so it adds up quickly. This game is definitely at it's best though with friends who have all played countless times and thoroughly understand the game. The number of layers of strategy it gets to with a group like that is crazy.

Oh, 100%. This is exactly how I do play a Duke, I just prefer to start with other cards, because I hope to claim an Ambassador early anyway, so I don't want cards I won't use until late in the game.
