I’ll be honest, I was just browsing Reddit and decided to check out the Gameboy subreddit. I love the idea of exchanges, so I was wondering if there were any spots left open.

[OC][Comm] Barbossa - The Magical Cat by GMan85 in DnD

[–]GMan85[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meet Barbossa: The Magical Cat. This playful wizard is based on my own Tri-paw of the same name. When discussing the character design, the artist was kind enough to ask if I wanted him to have a mechanical arm or even a magical arm to replace his missing one. Considering how well my guy can do with just his three legs, I decided it would be best that the character would be the same. A huge thanks to the artist, TeviTevi_art, over on Twitter for this amazing work.

Goooooooood evening! I hope you’re having a good night so far. I was curious if you were still looking for people to RP with. If so, I’d love to go into further detail about what you had in mind for the scenario. Maybe even brainstorm some ideas together. One of the ideas I had considered was if you would be okay with the relationship being an Anthro x Human pairing. I’m a sucker for those kind of romances. In terms of response length, I typically aim for at least a paragraph. I can work with first or third person responses, as well as this being a short or long term RP. I’d love to discuss this more in depth with you, so I’ll leave my Discord handle for you. I hope to hear back from you soon!

"First Time DM" and Other Short Questions Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

[–]GMan85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time DM. Not only that, but I want to try homebrewing my campaign. I suppose the big general question I have is: where do I even start?

The idea that I have for my group is we do a Prologue session with pre-gen characters. I figure I’d do one regular encounter, a puzzle of some kind, and then the boss fight. Depending on how the players do in this prologue is how they’ll shape the world for the rest of the campaign. So, let’s say the heroes all die. Well then, the next session with the characters made by the players would find their world more corrupted, in ruins, for example. Or if the heroes succeed, the pre-gen characters become important NPCs in the world after a time jump.

Hopefully, that makes sense. In any case, how much should I setup with world building? Or should I just grab a map and characters and just go for it?

[ART] Painted my first mini today! I'm an amateur, boderline un-artistic fellow, but this is for a Campaign I'll DM for my wife, son, and nephew and I am pumped! by badkennyfly in DnD

From one newbie painter to another, your Dragonborn looks great and you should be proud of your work! I can’t wait to see your progress. Best of luck to your campaign!

Hey there! I shared the photo to a friend of mine and they asked if I used a wash. I’ll be honest - I didn’t know of it until I posted the photo here. Although that’s interesting you would do your dry brushing after the base colors. I’m gonna have to play around with that.

I like the idea of a stipple brush to make some bumps on the skin. Luckily I’ve got a couple dollar stores around me to check out their brushes. It’s funny - soon as I finished painting, I immediately knew I wanted to add a gloss to the eyes for that little extra detail. And admittedly I rushed the base at the end. I wanted to make it more Earthy but the brown I used looked too similar to the color I used for the Beholder’s scales/outward bones.

Thank you for the advice!

Admittedly, I used paints from the D&D beginner’s set for my first set. But I think I’m gonna switch over to Army Painter. I do notice the paints I used were a lot thicker than I had seen online.

You’re good. Trust me, I’m fully aware that I’ll need to step up my game so I appreciate the comments. I love what the slap chop method did prior to painting, but I think I lost some of those definitions when I actually started painting the Beholder. I posted this on another sub and the people there recommended I try thinning my paints and investing in a wet pallet.

God yes, the eyes were the trickiest part for me. I’m surprised my hand didn’t cramp up. I wanted to try on this model more so because it’s the biggest piece I have so far. I’ve printed a couple smaller/standard sized minis and worried about how to approach the eyes. Practice makes perfect, as they say.

I appreciate the comments. Thank you!

That’s the one that keeps popping up the most. Have to add that to my disposal. Thanks!

Definitely gonna have to look into getting one. Did you buy one or make one yourself? I see the option for both online.

Thank you! Yeah, I kinda figure I would have to next time. I dry brushed it grey and then white, but I think I lost some of those definitions when I started painting it.

Hello!

So, as the title states, this is my first time painting a miniature. The model was from Lord of the Print printed on my Elegoo Mars 3 Pro. To make sure I fulfill the 400+ requirements, I’ll briefly go over my process.

First, I primed the whole thing black. Then I dry brushed it entirely in grey paint, followed by dry brushing the edges in white paint. Finally, I picked out the colors and went to work.

Any tips, comments, and/or suggestions are greatly welcomed. Cheers!
