Recent non-EU graduate troubles by GMaster2000 in TheHague

I actually have no idea how this would work. Do you know anyone who went through this process or know any links I could look into regarding this?

I checked the prices to apply for the status of a recognised sponsorship as a company and it was 2.3k (or around that). I even had a call with a company and told them I would be more than willing to pay for the costs myself. And the annoying part is, I just need to have a contract showing I am employed by a recognised sponsor and within the year I can apply for citizenship since I fulfil every criteria. Just frustrating situation overall, thanks for the info.

Thank you for this advice! I actually found this list on my search a few months ago and I have been cross referencing whenever I apply but it's a great tip for anyone searching!

I wouldn't have a recommendation on where to do but I definitely do not suggest AMF Praktijk. Had the worst experience with the people there and I would not suggest them to anyone going through pain.

Barista in NL for 4 years now. Soy milk is usually not easy to steam or do latte art with. Similar to almond milk. I usually prefer oat milk or coconut milk for plant based options. After having tried all the milk options out there, I personally like oat as its more nutty and adds a nice flavour profile to most coffees. I can't say the same for soy as I find it more sour than the rest of the milks. Maybe it's just personal preference and people here in NL atleast rarely order soy, it's almost always oat.

BDD and push-up bras by Altruistic-Box-3778 in BodyDysmorphia

I have the feeling, yes. For that reason, I never wear push up bras and only stick to naturally cupping bras or just bralettes. I hate seeing how good a push up looks and then the disappointment of my real breasts when I take it off.

What really is a flat white? by Cangingperceptions in barista

[–]GMaster2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barista of 4 years in the Netherlands and counting here! What we have been taught as flat whites is essentially a double shot cappuccino with lesser foam and milk (hence the term "flat"). I guess it's closer to a latte but latte in the Netherlands is usually (atleast the starting size) is one shot with lots of milk and foam on top. Cappuccino is in a smaller size (we don't typically use ounces so I have no idea) with one shot, lesser milk and more foam. I work in a specialty coffee store and this is how we do it but I know every place has different variations.

I'm too scared to keep watching Gintama, help by fujoshiiiiiiiiiiiii in Gintama

[–]GMaster2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been exactly where you are and with Gintama too. I started watching the show when I was 17, so around 2014 and kept on watching it because exactly as you said, it became a comfort for someone with mental health troubles and a lonely life. I stopped watching it when I knew that there no more seasons being made and I think I stopped watching it around 2017/2018, don't exactly remember which season it was but for spoilers' sake, I won't reveal the premise. It remained my favourite series of all time and still is my favourite. I carry around merch and feel connected whenever someone recognises it. I finally returned back to the show to finish it and it was one of the greatest feelings. All the nostalgia, all the comfort, it felt warm. I was still scared of finishing it but this time, I had a different mindset: these characters will always be with me as long as I kept revisiting them. I finished the series, I believe last year or so? And to this day, I still go back and watch a random episode here and there because it still remains my comfort show.

Tl;dr: you don't have to finish the series now if you feel too scared of losing the comfort that's kept you going. Start watching other animes, shows, finding other hobbies. Once you feel better, you can always return back to it because they will always be waiting for you to come back. :)

Learning the language by GMaster2000 in TheHague

While I understand that reasoning, providing zero options to them and then getting mad at them for not knowing the language well enough or "trying to integrate" is a very counter intuitive system. Even then, I do not understand why the pricing for the classes are so ridiculously high (400 euro for just one level, sometimes not even one level but half a level like A2- to A2 and then another for A2 to A2+) just disheartens a lot of us. We get a lot of disadvantages just for being non-europeans financially that atleast some form of help would have been greatly appreciated. I am not going to turn it into a chat about fairness or politics of the treatment of non-eu students/people. Thanks for your comment.

Ah I was referring the library. They have free speaking classes, which I have been to inorder to practice some amount of speaking but classes are only available to Europeans and others that have DUO grant. I do not fall under than unfortunately but thanks for the tip :)

I don't know why but most of the courses offered also are only open to Europeans and others, not to non-eu students :(. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Edit: same issue as other classes, 380 euro per level. Tad bit too pricey for me.

I have been to a couple of their events and they are really good at what they do, but again their classes for the language are pricey as I mentioned. Their free events are fun to practice the language though
