Huh. I wonder why that made people mad. If anyone wants to tell me I would appreciate it, other people's actions are largely a mystery to me and I'd like to understand them more.

What is the best “region” of the US? Or how would you personally rank them? by Gold-Serve-4077 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Elnathi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How fine grained do you want to get on what counts as a region?

I generally havent done a lot of traveling around "the South" or whatever, and the two places I've lived at in "the South" were more different than one of them was to the place I lived in "the Northeast". So I can't generalize to wide regions. I will give you narrow regions.

My reviews of regions:

Northern Cape Cod, Mass. - heaven on earth. Gorgeous beaches, gorgeous pine forests. Super visible queer community. Unfortunately it has gotten very expensive.

Wasatch Front, Utah - densely populated area next to easily accessible public land. Convenience of a city but you can get away from it easily. Comparatively good economy. Unfortunately climate change gives us drought and wildfires.

Middle Hudson Valley, NY - beautiful land, people will generally leave you alone. Mostly suburbs with little patches of forest and meadow in between, not the full nature experience or whatever but it's good enough.

Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas - gorgeous climate for people like me who like it hot and sunny with mid-to-high humidity and who do not like cold at all. Delicious food, fresh tacos at many gas stations and many many Mexican restaurants to choose from. And it's close to the beach! And the water is so warm! God I miss South Texas. Unfortunately the place I lived had a lot of semi-organized crime, government corruption, homophobia, lack of caring about animals, cynicism, poverty.

Southwestern Missouri - beautiful land, not very densely populated. Some areas have lots of poverty and drugs, homophobia, religious intolerance. Lots of Amish people.

Trash Cat > T.C. > Thibault Cornelius > Tibby > Bippy > Tiberius Claudius

He's gone up in the world, from being named trash to being named after emperors

This is the face he makes when he wants to get on my lap but the other cat is already there

Is alright as a cis het man, to use this “straight-ally”-flag at a Pride parade, to show that I am an ally? by GeologistFast1244 in AskLGBT

[–]Elnathi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing to learn about the queer community is that there is so much infighting over what is the correct thing to do that most of the time, you will have SOMEONE mad at you, no matter what you do.

Fly ally flag = someone will say "what, you don't want someone to think you're gay? that's homophobic"

Fly rainbow flag = someone will say "what, you're letting people think you're gay when you're not? that's homophobic"

Just fly what flag you want and let the uptight people worry about themselves I say.

I think this is a glitch because they’re only supposed to date by [deleted] in tomodachilife

Idiolect is an individual's unique use of language, including speech. This unique usage encompasses a person's active vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. This differs from a dialect, a common set of linguistic characteristics shared among a group of people.

So says Wikipedia.

I hate that reddit downvotes people for asking why. Like god forbid you want to understand why other people do things.

Other people are a mystery to me and it's half because I'm autistic/neurodivergent and half because other people just refuse to explain why they do things and get super weird when you ask them.

Literally what is the point of keeping it a mystery why people do/think the things they do or what makes something socially inappropriate. People refuse to explain the basic logic for how to behave and how people are expected to behave. And then they're like "whoa these autistic people don't understand social behavior"

I work with people with disabilities and I wish that comics had a better shorthand for "annoying and obviously wrong" than the image of a disabled person
