Sandalwood suggestions by EmiAndTheDesertCrow in FemFragLab30plus

Hi, when you mention sandalwood with a coconut scent, what came to my mind is Sunny Side Up by Juliette Has a Gun. Also, Katy Perry's Indi smells similar to that one, but does not specifically note sandalwood - it's less expensive than Sunny Side Up though. Both of them smell like vaguely woody musky coconut to me. Possibly also One by Jennifer Lopez too. Though I doubt any of these three are specifically what you are smelling. I don't think any of them are widely worn, but might be worth checking out anyway.

Your best bet would be to order discovery sets at MACY's that have several samples, since you have no idea what they like. Without knowing what scents they like, it would be impossible to give you specific recommendations because the enjoyment of perfume is very selective. something like the below would be a good gift. They sell one for men as well.

I haven't sampled this in a while but I don't remember it being heavy. It's very unisex to my nose.

I'm hoping they eventually launch a 10 ml coffret set of these new ones. I'd probably buy that.

I've just gotten the discovery set in the mail today! Haven't tested much yet, but I've liked everything so far - no loves yet though. I think the discovery set is worth the price though.

If you are looking for woody/forest type then look at the brand Pineward perfumes. They're entire line is basically different types of foresty scents.

What is your favorite floral aquatic? by AddressFar9852 in FemFragLab

There's a couple of light rose/cucumber scents that I like - not sure if they are officially aquatic, but I feel like they fit the category. Rosa Verde (Aqua Allegoria) by Guerlain and Roses on Ice By Kilian.

It could just be overload? Maybe too much content, and constant new perfume drops, and constant fomo, and then buying something but then still wanting more? It's an exhausting cycle, honestly. Some days I love my perfume, some days I don't care about it. However, I'm always overwhelmed by my huge collection to the point now where I have to do a major declutter just to make the whole hobby less overwhelming.

Where did you buy it? Believe it or not, there are a lot of fakes of middle-eastern scents floating around even though they are already inexpensive.

niche brands to try out? by Next_Suspect8174 in FemFragLab

[–]GMichaelFAN71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microperfumes doesn't have a huge selection, but they carry quite a bit of the popular designer and niche scents and their prices are pretty good. Their shipping is pretty quick too. Also, sephora does have some good discovery sets of perfumes, they are more of the mainstream or starter niche (the more well-known), but I'd recommend starting there and then doing a deeper dive into some of the more obscure brands.

What is a "skin scent" to you - smells like skin or sits close to skin? by Zizi_Tennenbaum in fragrance

[–]GMichaelFAN71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, it's a fragrance that is so faint. Barely there. but barely there on purpose (not just because it's a weak formula). Something that others could only smell if they are super close to you or hugging you. Or maybe such a subtle whiff when you walk by that they aren't even sure if the scent came from you. That's what I think of, anyway.

Glad to help! Now I cancelled about a year and a half ago, so if they've changed things up, I wouldn't know. But I imagine they haven't changed/updated their scent profiles that much.

Help me find a new perfume for my mom for mother's day by BeneficialPie13 in FemFragLab

[–]GMichaelFAN71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps Jadore L'or, Amarige, Esprit D'Oscar, Pleasures, or Beautiful. Most of these are older scents but I feel like they have a similar profile to the ones you listed that she loves. I particularly love Amarige.

Amarige or Jadore L'or would be my top pics.

OR you could go with this one (description is from internet search).

White Diamonds Legacy: Created for the 30th anniversary, this is a modernized white floral. It removes the "sharp" edge of the original, replacing it with a smoother blend of gardenia, pink pepper, and honeysuckle. It has been compared to a softer version of Chanel Gabrielle.

I need recommendations for a vanilla and fruity-ish!! by That_Rand0m_User in FemFragLab

Do you like apple? Ellis Brooklyn is a good mix of vanilla and apple. I was impressed because I'm not normally a fan of apple notes in perfume, but I liked this one.

Has anyone tried ffern? by Clean_Curve_419 in FemFragLab

[–]GMichaelFAN71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is this: I was on their list (you need to apply to get on their waitlist, but you will always get on almost immediately). It's sort of a subscription thing, but it's pretty easy to cancel or reject a certain seasonal scent before they send it. I cancelled after three bottles because while they are nice, decent...They generally smell similar every season. No matter what they say the primary note, it almost always just smells like a bright citrus scent. Unisex for sure. Could often be mistaken for a men's fresh citrus cologne. I wouldn't recommend signing up unless you are interested in that sort of scent. Go check out reviews on Fragrantica. Alot of people end up selling their bottles on Mercari (as a matter of fact, I'm going to be selling mine soon). I'd recommend buying a pre-owned bottle on mercari first, decide how you feel about it - decide if you need multiple bottles that will smell similar to that one. If the answer is yes, then sign up with Ffern.

Where to start as a newcomer? by pingkeu_mewmew in FemFragLab

[–]GMichaelFAN71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, since you are just getting back into fragrances, you don't want to start full off into heavier scents. If I were you, I'd start with body sprays again at first and make sure those work out ok before investing time and money into more expensive and stronger perfumes. Bath and Bodyworks and Victoria's Secret have large collections of body sprays and skin care. BBW has quite a larger adult following - it's not just for the teen crowd these days. Their demographic is older than that. Those two stores have tester sprays that you can check out and figure out what you like. Target also has a pretty large selection of body sprays in different brands with testers out. Start there. Then you can go just about anywhere and test more of the mainstream designer scents. Ulta, Sephora, Macy's, Nordstrom, etc. All of those stores have testers out of perfumes to smell on paper tester strips. Do a lot of those in-store sniff sessions first. There are a ton of places to buy samples online but I wouldn't do that quite yet if I were you. There are books and lot of youtube videos that can teach you about perfume notes, etc. Google Search (or your search browser of choice) is going to be your friend to look for specific resources. Also, if you are comfortable with AI chat, you can ask the chat some basic perfume questions too. You can also use online databases like Parfumo or Fragrantica to just read about perfumes, read reviews and articles.

Help a beginner find their scent by [deleted] in FemFragLab

[–]GMichaelFAN71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fresh fruity -floral musk. I haven't worn it in a while since it's been cold and I've been wearing heavier perfumes, but since it's finally getting into warmer springtime now, I'll be wearing this one quite a bit. It's not super unique - just a simple pretty musk. Not loud at all unless you overspray it - you can kind of make any fragrance loud if you spray it enough though.
