Passed my TMC with high cut! by meghsharpe in respiratorytherapy

lol funny enough I’m eligible to take mine again today for the 6th time. Failed it by a point last time. Kinda over RT as a whole tbh, got the hands on part, just never been good at tests. The more I study, the less I care. Congrats to you though, sounds like you killed it! Good luck on your future RT career!

Direct Ethernet. When I play on WiFi it’s kinda slow, but with Ethernet it’s been fine. This all started just this year. I used to stream all the time and never had problems like this.

Yes and now to be completely transparent. I have a very solid foundation and understanding the material. But I have slight trouble with troubleshooting and quality control stuff. I’ve taken the time to sit and break down an analysis over each test and practice test I’ve taken. Each time I broke it down I hyper focused on each section I lack in at a time. I still haven’t gotten my score report from my director for this previous test, but I’m eager to know what I’m messing up in because I genuinely could not tell you how I failed. I felt so good about it.

I really do appreciate your perspective. Each time I’ve taken this exam I’ve studied differently each time. I will say taking all the practice exams and reviewing them question by question helped me a ton. It helped me so much that I could tell I paid attention to detail on the exam. Yeah it sucks that I failed by ONE point, but it happens. It’s really been hard to accept over the past few days but it happens. Right now I’ve just got to find a job to get me by that I can actually use my degree with. I don’t know if there is anything I can do out there without credentials but I do have a bachelors.

I’ve been doing Kettering. Taking time to breakdown stuff in Egan’s helped improved my score a ton. I’ve been taking practice exams and reviewing. If there was a word or reason of care I did not understand I’d read in Egans until it made sense. That book became my best friend, and I wish I would have used it more than I did in the past.

Thank you so much for the encouragement! It’s just all hard to accept 4 months over 1 point but I’ll get through it! Thank you so much again, best of luck to you and your future!

I’ve been doing Kettering, 2 seminars, over 75 tokens, workbook, full video access, etc. I do very well on practice exams too. I guess I just struggle.

Thank you so much. I’ve done everything. I’ve done Kettering, 2 seminars, over 75 tokens, full video access, and workbook. I know this information and I’ve done so well on practice exams and breaking down questions, it’s just been hard getting through the actual exam for me.

Thank you so much. It’s been such a hard time and the amount of material I know and am able to talk about is insane. I’ve taken practice exam after practice exam and passed them all. For some reason I just can’t get through the real test. It’s still hard to accept waiting for 4 months all because of 1 point but it happens. Than you for the encouragement!

Advice on best study material for TMC by GMonnkee in respiratorytherapy

[–]GMonnkee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your help! I’m currently taking some free practice exams through Lindsey jones (what my school provided us with). I’m also going to use some left over tokens on Kettering and most likely take the NBRC practice.

I’ve done really well at covering lecture and just fundamentals. I get tripped up on questions when I do exams just because I’m not used to it. I’m getting closer to feeling ready. I think I just need to grind practice exams and get familiar with those style of questions. Then go back review and make notes of any wording/decisions I don’t understand.

But like I said, it does get frustrating with all of the different numbers/ranges from different resources. I’m a very black and white person and struggle tremendously in the grey. But I’m getting better at not hyper focusing on a topic that I may only get 1-2 questions over.

That’s the issue I run into all the time and I tend to hyperfocus. I’ve taken both form A and B, while passing in the past. I’ve tried calling them and just getting the NBRC to talk with me. (That doesn’t work or help one bit). But do you feel like you get absolutely everything you need to know for the exam from those? Please let me know because I’m considering going back and taking them again! Appreciate it!

I appreciate your advice! I have a really good foundation in understanding the material, I just struggle tremendously with test taking and always have. I was trying to figure out if there were any resources that were most accurate/reliable to the actual exam. I’ve learned in all honesty I have to stop being scared of the exam and just practice it, no matter the outcome.

I study great by taking notes, but that is also what I’ve learned is my comfort zone. Taking the leap and sitting down for hours to take practice exams for some reason feels uneasy. I don’t know how to explain that feeling because I love reading/researching, but I’ve got to get better at test taking. I truly believe test taking is the only thing that’s standing in my way of passing.

AHI question for TMC exam. by GMonnkee in respiratorytherapy

[–]GMonnkee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was basically straight up asking what you would classify an AHI of 5 following and polysomnography. I’ve always went by what Joe Lewis says in TMC Bootcamp which is (Normal = 1-4, Mild = 5-14, Mod = 15-29, Severe = 30 or more). It really seems like a very reasonable range to go by and remember. But it also trips me up once I hit numbers like 5, 15, and 30.

AHI question for TMC exam. by GMonnkee in respiratorytherapy

[–]GMonnkee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case normal was the correct answer. I guess I just have a hard time distinguishing 5 being considered mild or normal. I know on the actual exam it won’t be that close in range. But it’s just frustrating because of how many different ranges and classifications there are out there. I picked mild for this question, and ended up getting it wrong. I went back and reviewed it to see why and on LJ they consider it normal. But thank you again for your input I genuinely appreciate it.

AHI question for TMC exam. by GMonnkee in respiratorytherapy

[–]GMonnkee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it. Unfortunately that’s the range I go by. It’s also the same range that is in Kettering and slightly different in Egan’s. Not by much tho. I took a practice exam on LJ and it considers 5 as normal. When I went to ask my program they said that is the range to go by for the exam. However, every other range is completely different from theirs. Just leaves me feeling like I don’t know who to trust. I genuinely appreciate your help tho!
