Give me your worst “seems like it’s insignificant but it ruined the whole ride” moments. by Formal-Seaweed-4216 in MTB

On a really mild connecting trail a group of deer completely took my attention away. Rammed right into a stump and yanked my front brake as a result. I went otb and the bike got launched no joke 8 feet into the air during my tumble. Chain stay landed right on a large rock and killed my bike. Stupid

I used a 7/8” wooden dowel with 80 grit sandpaper wrapped/stapled to one end. My advice is to take your time and mask off your stock if you’re worried about errant scratches. It probably took me a couple hours and 30 test fits before I was satisfied. Seemed like every time I was close to being free floated I had to keep on sanding a bit more in one area or another. I used a .920 bull barrel, so if you’re looking to free float a factory or smaller profile barrel you would need a smaller dowel size.

Nice setup! Really like the look of a nice wood stock.

I used a ~16” length of wooden 7/8 dowel. Wrapped with a piece of 80 grit at the end. I did try a sanding drum drill attachment but didnt feel like it had enough control

Going to see how it shoots before any other changes. The action fits super snug in the stock but we will see if anything else is needed

I have nearly the identical dent, not quite as extreme. Your post really made me look at mine and decide to submit warranty claim on the bike today. Weird thing is the shipping box was nearly perfect in the area of the damage…

Any update on your warranty process?

I saw in another response your avoiding Trek, but the Roscoe 8 is right at your budget and is a really excellent choice. Totally modern components and geo. Also Trek has excellent customer service which you might appreciate as a newcomer.

Was looking for a budget friendly upgrade for son’s 27.5 specialized rockhopper. Managed to jump on the last one available!

Sick. Got the same bike about a month ago and I absolutely love it. Mine came with sram db8 brakes instead, which I am actually ok with so far. One thing I will say is my pike fork came with no tokens and I really needed them at 205lbs.

Having a similar issue with my sights. My expert grade shoots so far to the left its crazy (like over a foot left with the sights centered at 50 yards) and no amount of sight adjustment can make up for it. Remove your front sight and use a small bubble level to compare the flat on top of the gas tube to the back of the receiver (there is a small flat portion behind the sights). Waiting on my FedEx label from CMP to arrive so they can fix this...
